  1. The XT6 PS fluid is mineral oil based. VW did this years before, also mineral oil based. While it's true that a can of it is ridiculously expensive, IF you have no leaks, that one can will last the life of the car (or you). Given the difference in the base material, I'd think Dexron might be damaging to the internals. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  2. The crank sprocket and left cam sprocket will have to be exact matches, or the car won't run. Crank sprocket: 6 teeth or 23 teeth Cam sprocket: 2 cam sensor pickups or 7 pickups Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  3. I have had the same switch on my '92 Legacy Turbo Touring Wagon LE for at least 4 years. 99% of the time I run it in FWD. It can literally be flipped "on the fly" (highway speeds) when you need it. My transmission is perfect, thank you. You're doing no damage by having it and using it. Certainly, MUCH less damage than running mismatched tires would be! Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  4. Beck/Arnley is not a manufacturer. They are a repackager of OEM (usually) goods. You're probably good with them. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  5. Over the years, we've noticed that carb and spfi pistons will score more on the right bank than the left bank. (Turbos just are nasty all over.) No real idea why, as far as I know. Possibly less oil circulation on that side. But, it's not just your imagination. We've seen it up close and personal. In fact, we recently bought the last spfi right side pistons in the USA from SOA. (We seem to do that a lot :-\ ) Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  6. Actually, most of the parts in Marshall's axles ARE new. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  7. You can email him through our website or his phone number is (303) 522-8070. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  8. You can't do better than MWE Axles, IMHO. Marshall is a colleague of ours, not part of CCR in any way. I won't use anybody else's on my own cars. You can reach him here: http://ccrengines.com/mwe/index.html Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  9. The '96 EJ25 had hydraulic lifters, the valves are shorter, and there is a minor difference in the pistons. Those heads will fit that block perfectly. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  10. A '79 Brat would have the EA71 1.8L OHV engine. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  11. My '92 Turbo Legacy engine has zoom zoom stamped into the block Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  12. Rob, It's on the bench, mostly assembled, and would have shipped Monday if Rick hadn't aggravated his double hernia and had to take a couple of days off. (You don't want to know how he describes the pain! ) Nobody but him finishes the EA82 (especially) turbo engines. I think it will ship Fri. We'll make sure you have it in plenty of time to finish up for WCSS Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  13. Raven Power Steering Specialists here in Denver does a very good reman. Have one on my SVX. (303) 777-6640. No website that I know of. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  14. The parts are so similar that we usually keep EA71 core engines together until we need to rebuild one. Over time (and careless or forgetful employees), parts will get mixed in with EA81/EA82 stuff. It drives Rick nuts to be in the process of an EA71 just to discover that what he trusted were the correct parts supplied to him...aren't! So he has to go into his stash and find the missing pieces. That is, IF we have them. That's another reason we've been telling folks we aren't doing that engine anymore. (Curiously, there's one in process at this very moment.) The only item we don't have problems with (yet) is the piston rings because we buy from the manufacturer who supplies Subaru. As a member of the Subaru community, we'd like to keep supplying something that nobody else does as long as there is a need for it. As a business, we have to consider the fact that the EA71 is a huge pain compared to the much more in-demand (and profitable) EJ series engines. I guess we'll consider them on a one-at-a-time basis. Sorry, it's Sunday morning and I tend to ramble....on and on and on. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  15. Hmmm, gotta make a phone call first thing in the am. Thanks. We were about to consider aftermarket Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  16. You should see what the cost of the parts is to rebuild one! Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  17. All else being equal, I upped my Legacy Turbo tires from 195 to 205s. Those darn "your speed is" signs always show my speed as lower than my speedometer. 2-5 mph depending on overall speed. Of course, I don't know how accurate those signs are, but every one has shown the same results. FWIW Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  18. Yep, it looks hot, but I bet the brakes and bearing are too. Remember, SVX wheels are directional to draw air in to cool said parts. You can rotate them front to back, but not side to side. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  19. Get rid of an EJ22 turbo car?!?!?!? NEVER! OK, when it falls apart into 7,000 separate pieces in the middle of the road. When that happens, it's a . Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  20. Doesn't stuff like that just chap your a@@?? I hate dishonest, lying, sneaky, outright conniving thieves. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  21. Yep, coolant temp sensor. Use Subaru Genuine only! (I know: I gotta an SVX.) Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  22. Ted, That's just too weird for words. Must be the desert heat! Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  23. There is a left side and a right side, but they are the same size. If it makes a difference in the price, re-use the springs. They never fail. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
  24. NO stop flow! That stuff will crud up your whole cooling system. If it's a small leak, use good ol' table pepper. A packet from MacDonalds is about right. (It flows to where the leak is, expands from the liquid and will temporarily seal small leaks.) (Also...look out for deer about sunset on country roads ) Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
