  1. yeah intake mod on the "cup".. flip it around, cut it so its about 3/4 inch tall and remount it with the "cup" base inward.. smooths out the intake flow. this works well with removing the intake box inside the passenger fender. also, and not for the squeamish... cut the bottom of the air box out, cheap open air in a sense, add the k&n filter 33-2010 for best results rllywgn
  2. I've been doing quite a bit of mig welding on my car lately.. yeah.. disconnect the battery and your good.. rllywgn
  3. i got friday and saturday off! sweet a** sweet... I'm there.. anyone have a good ea82t axle? 23 spline in the sw/wa or pdx area? cheap? rllywgn
  4. on the pages concerning the turbo mods, there is a section on removing the boost selenoid (that thing inline from the turbo to wastegate on 87 and newer models). does anyone have an idea why you would need a turbo from a 85/86 model to replace 87 and newer turbo's? is the wastegate different? also.. anyone done the wastegate mod with the adjustable turnbuckle? rllywgn
  5. I've been working my way down that list.. have a few of the engine mods done (ones that don't require new parts). if those are Subaru part numbers, has anyone tried to track down any parts? also, from what ive heard there is a few more pages floating around somewhere. no luck finding them though...
  6. it was on GL-10 and RX models standard, i believe it was also on xt's. Just a trim peice for high line models rllywgn
  7. should be dark enough now... just installed them this afternoon.. rllywgn
  8. so i made some more progress on the front end finally.. having a welder really helps. oh and i may have spent a few bucks on some really bright lights.. somethings you just cant get for free this is what i started with.. then i started boxing it all in.. i still need ro make sides for the bumper.. just trying to figure out a good way to do it.. so yeah mo betta.. starting to look more and more like the rally machine i want it to be.. im dreaming of a wrx front clip... mmm... rllywgn
  9. if im in the wrong spot... feel free to move me.. so i went to scope out the P.A.P. on foster rd. in portland, OR. and i didnt want them but somebody may.. they have a hightop ea82 wagon with a 5spd dual range ft4wd in it.. i think it was a 90 or 91 another ea82 wagon with a highrise console.. has those goofy slider (choke you if your not paying attention) automatic seat belts an xt6 without an lsd... front spindles, hubs, axles, rotors, calipers are still there.. back is gone (sorry, in my garage) .. for you 5 lug hopefuls ea81 wagon.. mostly complete.. motors all there from what i saw.. some interior left.. just thought i would let ya know.. isnt that console rare? rllywgn
  10. thats wicked nice! great custom work.. gives me inspiration to finish my front end.. rllywgn
  11. 1. your compression is pretty high accross the board, allthough there not even.. theres a bunch of chemicals that say they'll help.. most are a gimmick.. if i was goona choose one i would say Lucas oil stabalizer may help.. 2. 90w i what the manual trans calls for.. should be good.. an upgrade would be using synthetic.. if its questionable, run a quart of ATF (auto tranny fluid) for 100 miles then drain and refill.. atf has alot of detergents should clean out the trans nicely. (if thats an issue) 3. seals are expensive unless you can do this yourself. the Lucas oil stabalizer may slow this down.. but, don't forget its still something thats gonna have to be addressed at some point. if your timing belts are in question.. replace them.. if you havent done them in the last 40k.. do 'em 4. my experience is that most subaru's dont like mountains.. my turbo has the same issue goin up long grades (it has a new motor), as well as every previous model i've had.. maybe some have had better luck but my 2 cents rllywgn
  12. i can host them... let me know and i'll get 'em up.. rllywgn
  13. does your motor have the basics to run? fuel, air, spark? after you figure those out... check the timing... still no luck... we can break it down farther do you know what caused it to die? rllywgn
  14. as far as i know.. I'll be there.. i haven't had my rally fix in a while.. usmb members gonna have a meet area? should we? particular day? rllywgn
  15. http://www.radiatorbarn.com/s7.asp?ac=Y&year=1988&make=SUBARU&model=DL%2C+FE%2C+GF%2C+GL%2C+RS+OR+RX&submodel=ALL+MODELS&engine_size=H4%2C1.8L I got mine here... free shipping... took 5 days to get to my door... says non turbo... but, it's perfect for a turbo... as they told me... rllywgn
  16. it's been a while since ive had a push button car.. but as i recall.. theres a fuse near the passenger side strut tower.. if thats not bad.. theres a vacuum operated selenoid just above the trans but closer to the drivers side.. those have been known to fail.. hope this helps and good luck rllywgn
  17. maybe they were painted a year ago? who knows... rllywgn :banana::banana::banana:
  18. since we're bringing up the past... should i call up my ex and tell her ill be home in a few minutes? rllywgn Peanutbutter jelly time!
  19. theres been a ton of discussion on this topic in the supraforums (my other baby) basically aside from cleaning up the engine compartment... removing the egr valve usually doesnt yield much for performance gains but your engine will run much better.. 2 cents deposited rllywgn also if you have to go through emissions... it is technically illegal to remove systems related to emissions control...
  20. sorry bout that.. first time i ever put that word on paper.. or screen in this case... basically what i meant was adding the intercooler will possibly make the hesitation worse.. i had a similar problem on a ea82t wagon some time ago.. it had some early-mid throttle hesitation, when i added a dsm intercooler it would nearly choke off the line.. the intercooler accounted for a 3psi pressure loss and along with the hesitation it was to much to handle.. rllywgn
  21. ive done one 5 lug swap and i'm in the process of doing it to my new subie.. the pap in pheonix nearly bankrupt me.. i hate well trained employees that can identify almost anything on a car... especially when the prices are going up.. the first conversion cost me 450 bucks!.. without tires! fortunately ive found a small yard in portland thats sold me almost everything i need... 30 dollars spent so far.. need front calipers and struts from an impreza.. some nice two piston calipers would be super.. they just dont have any... not all the yards are bad... most owned by LKQ are though.. there trying to eliminate the pap... rllywgn
  22. if you have hesitation without the intercooler... adding one will most likey exacerbate the problem.. most intercoolers will have some pressure loss and could add to more so then correct the problem.. rllywgn
  23. atf works great as a fuel systems cleaner also... dump half to a full quart into your full tank of gas and your motor will thank you... shiny pistons.. detergents... tasty yeah you will smoke for that tank.. but it works better then just about every fuel systems cleaner ive seen rllywgn
  24. just a simple thought... ive decided on mine that screwdriver tight on the clamps from the turbo to intake isnt tight enough... use a wrench.. mine was fluttering underboost, when i would look at it everything seemed ok.. but really tightening them down fixed the problem.. rllywgn
  25. i agree with the 1400-1600 and that may be a little high... i paid 700 for my 88 gl10 sedan, it has a new motor, new suspension and a couple other odds and ends.. a motor is needed for a car to run so dont let them try to charge you for that.. it's worth a few extra bucks for the fact that it may run tip top but its no chunk of gold... goodluck.. negotiate that down a wee bit rllywgn
