  1. sometimes a higher output alternator will be "geared" higher; this may be why it's weaker at low RPMs.
  2. it's easy. you'll need to switch the shifter linkage and console from car to car.
  3. yeah, that's it.. i saw it during a road trip with skeet and some other web miscreants. that was the trip when my first t-wagon lost a wheel .. thanks discount tire!
  4. how do you hook up to a ported source? i've always just looked for a source on the manifold...
  5. it ain't me, i'm andrew mikelson. i've run into 4 other andys around town lately, feeling kind of crowded now
  6. you'll want something else to drive for a while and a new heater core since you'll have the dash all apart anyway
  7. i'd go new (junkyard) seats and carpet all the way. toss that old stuff and remember, when you clean the sheet metal, bleach is your friend. Use this as an excuse to put in soundproofing or thermal insulation if you choose, or to run wires for accessories or whatever. i hate mice too. while we're talking pest cleanup, a neat way to deal with mold is aerosol foot fungal spray.. wear a filter so you don't breathe the air the shopvac will spit out.
  8. quiet you! we don't need any of that common sense stuff interfering with progress! I'd like to know how feasible it is to turn a 3.7 RX trans into a 3.9 or 4.11 RX trans? pretty easy i'd bet?
  9. no i don't and yes I will. probably not for a while now.
  10. someone's got to have an extra turbo laying around. Even if you sell the car, you'll get more for it if it runs.
  11. YOU'RE GOING TO CHOP UP AN XT6 INTAKE AND PUT IT ON AN EA82, AREN'T YOU?!?!? you sick sick puppy! go Will! edit: I love broadband!
  12. yeah, the rear calipers i put on the brat hadn't been in use for a while; i had to take out the bleeder screws and drill them out before i could bleed the brakes.
  13. you could turn it on its side, be much narrower that way.
  14. aargh, i want a free car too! someone hook me up!
  15. that car will have an oil cooler on it too.
  16. you can also get rid of your A/C and convert from power to manual steering. and loosen the alternator belt a little. Isn't someone making lightweight EA82 crank pulleys? and don't forget about running premium with your timing tuned in advance.
  17. also, the washer that goes between the beveled washer and the castle nut is curved like so: ( you want the convex side facing out. some are marked OUT on the washer itself. the curvature is easy not to notice.
  18. those *are* 4 relays from under the dash. If they all have the same writing/part numbers on them, they're interchangeable, and you could just manufacture that part of the harness as you need it.
  19. yeah, i'll try bleeding them more. I looked at the MC; it's got a front nipple and a back nipple. don't know if it matters what order you bleed them. no idea on the hill holder. I do need to loosen the E brake a little though.
  20. no, the drums have no soft line.
  21. it's really nice. I have RX springs on GL struts in the front of my wagon, and new KYB RX struts in the back. that and XT6 sway bars... hooo boy!
  22. I just swapped discs onto my brat and the pedal's softer than I like. How do you bleed the MC while it's in the car, and how do you bleed the HH?
  23. I just put rear discs on my 83 brat yesterday! it's easy. you need calipers and rotors (and new pads, and turn the rotors perhaps), backing plates, and hard lines. the hard lines you need are the ones off the soft hose on the caliper that run 8 inches up the rear control arm. the hard part if you're junkyarding will be finding soft lines that aren't cut. It sounds like you might have skipped getting the hard lines. Good parts stores have bulk hard line; take a caliper with you to make sure the fittings are the right size, and get a line that's about 8 inches long. You can bend it gently by hand to tailor the shape, just don't kink it. good luck.
