LSD oil Limited slip differential gear oil
I searched but didn't come up with much. Kendall Limited Slip Gear Oil was mentioned on here. Any others and where do you get that? I know I can get the additive stuff but i'd rather find something in a bottle and buy a few of those. In the past I got whatever a Subaru dealer in Atlanta used years ago but don't have any now and don't recall what it was.

Front O2 Sensor--OEM?
idosubaru replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis has been discussed before and no conclusive answers are forthcoming. it's as much personal preference as anything else, i suggest sifting through and reading the other threads. buying an OEM brand item does not actually mean it's the same part. it might be and it might not. companies can make different grades and vary quality controls for supplying to manufacturers (who have specification sheets) and aftermarket companies (who may not or they may be different). you should take a statistics course, nothing is black and white. if aftermarkets have a %5 problem rate and OEM does not, then 95% of the time they're fine. to some people that %5 rate is annoying and not worth their time. to others they don't mind taking %50 risks to save a penny, and there's both of those mind sets on a board like this. that's why you here all sorts of opinions because a lot of what you're reading here is anecdotal. a few experiences is statistically irrelevant. so study up some industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, statistics and this stuff all makes much more sense rather than trying to quantify something that can't be.

2000 EJ22 swap to 1997 EJ25 Outback
Definitely not plug and play. The only thing I can suggest is that you'd have to swap the EJ25 wiring onto the EJ22 intake manifold. And then you might have to swap cam gears...after that it *should* work if that all shakes out. But there might be some other quirks along the way. Not a good swap if you're looking for easy. This hasn't been covered much, there's hardly a need to since pre 1999 EJ22's are usually really cheap. If those aren't cheap then the later ones certainly shouldn't be cheap since they're much harder to find.

Help me spend $8000
idosubaru replied to Dave P's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe H6 is a great motor but only available in certain models. If not then get a 2003+ EJ25. Head gasket issues decrease past 2002 and that's when Subaru's extended headgasket warranty ends as well as they started adding the goop to the coolant. An extremely reliable engine is the 2.2 liter EJ22 but it's only found in very limited models from 2000-2002 - like some impreza's only. Doesn't give you much like options, trims, and real nice kind of feel if that's what you're after. But great cars performance wise and reliability. Cars101.com will define subaru options and what's available for you. Keep your eyes out for an EJ25 that has already had the head gaskets replaced, they aren't that hard to find and then you don't have to worry about them again if the job was done right. $8k is more than enough to get a great car. I'm a huge fan of expanding my range. i've flown to pick up cars before.

head gasket help
lots of info here on this, i know i've written a lot about these. use Fel Pro permatorque head gaskets and add 5-10 pounds to the final torque. that allows you to skip the retorque and comes with lots of recommendations from those of us here that do it that way.

Estimate cost for Oil Seperator plate and Oil pan gasket
idosubaru replied to yesyeah's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXit will vary quiet a bit by dealer, mechanic, or buddy and everything in between. should be able to call and get some quotes over the phone, but $500 should cover it. being an interference engine might keep the timing belt job in mind too. doing large jobs at the same time can save cash sometimes.

01 H6 OBW Transmission filter?
idosubaru replied to skibumm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthey probably have an internal "filter" like the old 4EAT's have but it's not hardly a filter and not worth changing. nothing to gain by changing it.

EJ25 swap
your models vary from over here. is it a turbo or non-turbo? over here for non-turbo stuff the EJ25 is the biggest EJ motor they make that's a direct plug and play swap. don't think you got anything bigger, so EJ25 is the best you can get. what do you mean by "cooked". if you're talking about a head gasket issue your best bet is just to repair it. much better to have a properly fixed engine then buy another EJ25 with known headgasket issues. or, plan on replacing the one you get.

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
idosubaru replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXReally? I need someone to come over and teach me this stuff, I had no clue! GD what are you doing next weekend!? The hose is really long probably 50 feet. I like being able to take it all the way out my garage into the driveway to work on something. So I can try short hose and have a 10 foot pipe on hand. As tight as this joker is I would think the tire will just spin though.

96 headlamp differnt
idosubaru replied to bobaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi was under the impression that all legacy (legacy and OBW) headlights were the same from 95-99. do you think it was wrecked? you could take measurements of both (the other side too) and compare them. the grills are different from some legacy models to another though, did you replace that?

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
idosubaru replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGo John, that was it. That does give me more hope it's not totally hosed. I just looked: 3/4" gun requires 8 SCFM and my compressor is only rated for 4.9 SCFM at the same psi. Still surprised it (and everything else i tried - hand tools, 3 foot pipe, etc) didn't work, but that makes much more sense. Thanks John.

Another EA81 Timing thread
that's what i thought when i first read this. in the worthless state of CA - why even leave a wire exposed. i would just fake something like that before taking it in. don't know if CA is more stringent but in the emissions testing states i've been in, all i've ever needed was a tune up. plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filer, PCV and passed after failing. i agree with GD though - passing with a miss might be tough. so sad that you're EA81 is killing people, ruining the environment and bogging down the economy  i'm sure you're putting lots of miles on it:lol:

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
idosubaru replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhmmm, decisions. we're trashing the axle anyway so that's not a concern, we're trying to install a new one. i'll keep my eye out for another hub or plan to chisel it off.

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
idosubaru replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi don't have any good equipment like that. maybe i'll just weld on it for a few minutes . doubt the little use i'd have is worth the purchase but how much would a good torch cost? i mean roughly...like $10....$100....$10,0000? can i just buy one that'll cut it off!!!

2.2 > 2.5 swap on a '99 OBS?
if it was a 98 or earlier this would be a simple yes - drop the right EJ25 in and go, there's hardly anything to it. in 1999 the EJ22 went to Phase II and incorporated quite a few changes. my guess is you can still swap but i haven't done it and don't recall details. have you tried searching - keep your eye out for Phase II SOHC EJ25 info. it might be as simple as swapping the intake manifold onto a newer SOHC Phase II EJ25 with the possibility of swapping the cam sprockets. that's my guess. the 2.5 has more headgasket (type it in google or search here to find all you could possibly care to read about it) piston slap and lower end issues. personally i'd just swap another EJ22 in.

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
idosubaru replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhow do you split one with a chisel or cut it off quick with the limited access inside the recess of the hub? that sounds like the way to go. i don't have any 5+ foot long pipe and breaking the nut sounds cathartic. he lives 3 hours away so i'm trying to help him but it's not real convenient. he's coming up Sunday though, which i knew of a sure way to work it.

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
idosubaru replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXgreat question, i screw up plenty of things. that's the easiest way to learn! i'm positive. i checked, double, triple...etc checked. hit it with the 900 Ft lb impact socket for like 2 freaking minutes straight with a fully pressurized tank. Something is cracked up. if 2 minutes of 900 ft/lbs of impact don't get it off i'm not sure what will. at 200 pounds i'll need....minimum of 5 feet of pipe to get to 1,000 pounds (of non-impact)....this is getting ugly. i'm willing to bet driving foward won't touch it - at 1,000 pounds it's just going to lift up the wheel or do something nuts like that.

4wd vs AWD??
that's been my experience, the AWD definitely had advantages though i don't know the technicalities of it but the idea that "open diffs all the way around sucks" definitely doesn't play out when driving.

ej25 dohc to ej22 sohc swap motor or heads
all the info on here pertains to SOHC EJ22, frankly i've never seen or heard of a DOHC EJ22 - there is not such thing over here (or they are rare or turbo's or something else). it doesn't matter - like i said all the swap info on this board means "SOHC when speaking of the EJ22" and DOHC when speaking of the EJ25's you're talking about. so like i said your question is the same as everyone elses - and all the info here points to a very simple swap with no wiring. if you're in another country there may be some differences.

New to air ride suspension.. Need HELP!!
gotta get those leaks under control. the air suspension light is on the dash - you can't miss it - it's totally annoying and constantly flashing in your face if something is wrong. if the system shuts off or doesn't air up properly the light flashes constantly.

A recently removed axle nut that won't come off?
My friends 97 legacy needs an axle replaced. I removed the axle nut over the summer to replace his hub. I didn't do anything spectacular when reinstalling it...i've installed many dozens of axle nuts before. So he shows up at my place the other day to do a simple axle swap on that same side and the axle nut won't budge. Hit it with 900 ft-lb heavy duty 3/4" impact gun. I thought maybe the gun or air supply was funky so tried by hand. 3/4" socket set with 3 feet of pipe and me jumping up and down on the end. Ended up hitting it with a torch. Got it a little hot but then ran out of gas. Never moved. Something isn't right?

power steering starting to go
Subaru steering racks don't fail that often and are very easy to replace so a used unit is a very good option. Since they rarely fail they're readily available and cheap.

Ridiculous Remote Programming
idosubaru replied to allwheeldad's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXand scratch your arm pit with your left pinky while doing the hand stand - that should do it. actually i'm guessing the guy is already dead. they seem to change it quite often, probably because they keep getting bumped off! LOL yeah they're completely asinine. just keep trying with slight variations. i guess you've seen cars101.com. read that and some threads here, it's always taken a few tries and me thinking into it way too much because of how convoluted it is...so does that mean *this* or *that*....?

Chain reduction Hub
buying unnecessary parts and impractical projects like this are a horrible financial move for someone with a limited budget. there's a cause-and-effect here. living month to month is tough...living month to month and coming up with projects like this is a recipe for stress..now, or later. make some financial goals and decisions and you'll be in a better place later to do what you want. might be hard, might seem impossible, might take a couple years. but you'll show your true colors, if you can really be creative and come up with good ideas - and if you can really hack it by doing that. and then...you'll find yourself in a position that you can basically do whatever you want. most people can't do that, but it's not hard and i highly recommend it for all your future Subaruing ideas.
