Now that I live in Colorado I want one with Altimeter. Ill have to dig around and see if i still have the Tercel one.

Those numbers are great. Gotta be a vac or carb problem.

Watch the dash. A 4wd light will come on, then a LO light next to it.

Price it at the dealer. It lasted this long, its worth the $10 or so.

These holes are made with insufficient metal surrounding the hole but on top of that when the head and engine are severely overheated I have seen the holes all degrade badly in multiple engines. A guy ran his 98 EJ25 for 30 minutes with the temp gauge pegged and the heads were almost unusable. Re-use of the head gasket when the engine has never been fired isn't a perfect situation but if its the metal multi layer gasket and you are going to put it back on the same cyl head and block surface I say go for it.

The trans has 3 major sections. Your problem lies in the front differential. The main case contains the pinion shaft which is a matched gear to the ring in the front differential. You must keep the ring and pinion a match to each other. If you are not afraid of taking the trans part way apart then you can do this: Remove the rear section (tailhousing) with the 14MM bolts that go all the way around. Remove the front differential. Remove the 3 bolts that secure the pinion to the backside of the main case and drive the pinion gear shaft out of the main case. Insert the same gear shaft from the Impreza into the Legacy trans and re-bolt the sections together, provided that the gear shaft is the same.

Another new conversion project...
ShawnW replied to 88westy's topic in Vanagon Conversion Discussion
Absolutely correct. They mount in the same location. -
Hobart Kennedy of KEP is working on his personal vehicle having an eg33 SVX engine but hes not in a hurry to complete the conversion. If anybody will obtain CARB approval for that conversion it will probably be him as he knows what it takes to get thru it. I would stick with the ej22 conversion. Theres alot more help out there for it, it fits nicer, and gets better gas mileage. The engines themselves durability wise are about the same but the availability of parts for the SVX engine is a concern. I personally think the Vanagon stock is not a tow vehicle. The vehicle doesnt stop itself well enough let alone your Sailboat too. There are brake upgrade kits available but they really only take your less than optimal brakes and make the vanagon stop more like a typical car or truck from what I have read. South african brake kits as well as some from Smallcar.com for starters on things to google.

I agree, it should run with those codes. The picture linked in the other post should help you. Thats the passenger side of the engine and that coolant pipe is under the intake manifold. The sensor that talks to the engine computer is the one with 2 prongs and the red brick colored connector. The knock sensor is found in a gap in the intake manifold that can be seen from the top of the engine if you look where the throttle cables hook up to the throttle body look directly down for a black thing down on the engine block with 1 wire running away from it and a bolt thru the middle.

HELP!!! 1984 GL Digital Gauges (wont work)
ShawnW replied to blackbuggy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can probably source you 1-2 digital ones that are used in unknown/untested condition from local pull a parts here. The yard gets $17.99 ea for them at the one and probably around the same at another yard. -
Spin the wheel faster, it wont always turn with just a small amt of speed.

How do you like your Tires so far? I am thinking of getting those too.

Really sick. Not my kind of Vanagon but I have a lot of respect for it. I like a little more "offroad ready" looking setup on mine but how you plan to use it would dictate that I am sure.

Another new conversion project...
ShawnW replied to 88westy's topic in Vanagon Conversion Discussion
I havent seen both side by side but I really like the Kennedy parts, they are really nicely made. I have heard bad things about the Small car engine crossmember but otherwise the rest all seems to be equal. -
EJ22 & EJ25
ShawnW replied to payson's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
The crank sprocket may be wrong. Theres one with MANY teeth and one with 6 or 7 bigger teeth that talk to the Crank sensor. Start with codes, there should be some stored if it won't start. -
Was the XT6 an Automatic trans maybe? On the older body cars theres a clearance issue using the Auto swaybar on the MT car. Maybe similar on the next bodystyle newer?

I don't believe so. They were however sold in Germany and other parts of Europe I think. They had a Turbo diesel available as well I think.
