^%$#^%$ Swaybars!
Was the XT6 an Automatic trans maybe? On the older body cars theres a clearance issue using the Auto swaybar on the MT car. Maybe similar on the next bodystyle newer?

diesel westy syncro
I don't believe so. They were however sold in Germany and other parts of Europe I think. They had a Turbo diesel available as well I think.

Cybrid Power steering (xt6) in ea81 body?
Has anybody done it? Im thinking it would be a lot easier to setup an electric pump on the firewall instead of on the engine. Engine will be an ej22.

Remove intake when pulling engine on 98 Outback?
ShawnW replied to hankosolder2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt will be fine. Next time just gently use a screwdriver and work up to a prybar inbetween the bellhousings.

O2 sensor "cheat" ??
I thought the tip was to not use E85? On the WRX they use a resistor to trick the ECU into thinking the rear 02 sensor is working. I want to say its an 8K ohm resistor but check on Nasioc, I-Club, etc to be sure. Simple as hitting radio shack, spending 1-2 dollars and getting 8-10 of these and bending the prongs of one into the plug in for the 02 sensor.

Front Crank Pulley- Please help
ShawnW replied to quaylern's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere in Colorado a guy created a way to fix broken/damaged keyway's. His shop is s-wingstuff in Denver. Ask for Mike. Kit isn't cheap but its alot cheaper than most of the alternatives and it actually works, I have done 2 of them so far. Moral of the story is to locktite the crank pulley bolt and torque it to 120 ft lbs. http://www.s-wingsstuff.com/

When does a Subaru stop being a Subaru?
Its a Subaru, even more of a Subaru than when you started if you ask me.

Attn:EA81T people in colorado....

Vanagon, VW bug... whatever
"Snotrocket" was his handle but he changed it to something else and I cant remember what.

Started conversion today
Got the temp gauge in and started adding coolant today. Getting VERY close to drivable (more than just in and out of the shop).

Vanagon, VW bug... whatever
Lots of ingenius people out there have done it. Its not impossible the big difference in the conversions is that theres a HUGE aftermarket for the air cooled bug engine, such that doing the ej22 isnt as much of a no brainer as a Vanagon conversion.

It runs! My boss found the reason for the CLICK. I didnt hook up the MAIN POWER WIRE TO THE BATTERY. It also now has a fully upgraded cooling system lacking only coolant. Tomorrow the fun of burping it will begin.

There HAS to be something wrong with this EA82?!?
The gear ratio and the wear on the carburators or engines alone would explain this. My favorite would be the KISS principle. The ea81 is easier to take care of and has less moving parts and therefore is more likely to be in peak condition than the ea82.

Im to the point of trying to crank it over but all I get is a click from the starter. Tonights troubleshooting was to remove and install the starter I had that worked on my 81 Westy. That didnt help.

getting codes from ej22
You must have a check engine light. Plug the 2 green connectors together and put the key to ON (not start) and watch for a morse code to flash on the check engine light LED. Each number has long short. The long flashes are the first digit, the short the 2nd. LONG LONG SHORT being 21. My bet is on 11 or 13 for a no start situation. I havent verified this code list but I think it is right: CODE PROBABLE CAUSE 11 Crank Angle Sensor or Circuit 12 Starter Switch or Circuit 13 Cam Position Sensor or Circuit (TDC Sensor on Justy) 14 Fuel Injector No. 1 (Legacy, Impreza, Justy, SVX) 14 Fuel Injector No. 1 and 2 (XT, Loyale, GL, DL) 15 Fuel Injector No. 2 (Legacy, Impreza, Justy, SVX) 15 Fuel Injector No. 3 and 4 (Loyale, GL, DL) 15 Fuel Injector No. 5 and 6 (XT-6) 16 Fuel Injector No. 3 (Legacy, Impreza, Justy, SVX) 16 Fuel Injector No. 3 and 4 (XT) 17 Fuel Injector No. 4 (Legacy, Impreza, SVX) 17 Fuel injector No. 1 and 2 (XT-6) 18 Fuel Injector No. 5 (SVX) 19 Fuel Injector No. 6 (SVX) 21 Coolant Temperature Sensor or Circuit 22 Knock Sensor or Circuit (Right Side on SVX) 23 Air Flow Meter or Circuit (Exc. Yes. Same crank and rods. The cam is interchangable.

In this case the liners are completely rusted as its a florida car and the antifreeze mixture seems near 10% instead of 50 like up here. All the same u may be right i just know subie motors.

Correction, photos soon. Keep forgetting the camera. Today I tore down the WBX engine to see what makes it such a POS. Its like an EA81 mechanically but with a whole bunch of extra garbage such as removable cyl sleeves, manifold pipes that go around like spaghetti, coolant pipes that are overdone...13 and 15MM bolts that drive a Subaru geek NUTTY as everything you see is in 12's and 14's and it keeps futzing with you. I got one piston out, looked down into the block and decided there wasnt anything worth saving and put the whole block in a scrap metal bin. I saved the mentioned piston as a souveneir and trophy but in all honesty it wasnt worth the time I spent tearing it down. The vanaru might start at this point if I put gas in it. Yesterday I drained all the 3 year old gas, then after making the last electrical connection I hopped in got to the point of touching the key and it dawned on me that the fuel tank is bone dry now. DOH! Tomorrow is another day.

Removed VW 1.9 WBX and installed the Ej22. Lots of hookups to go but its physically in there at least. Photos tomorrow.
