  1. you could "probably" remove it. but since you live in a high temp location, and may spend time in traffic its probably best to keep it, its not just for the drive shaft, its also to keep your carpet from melting.
  2. Live and learn, we all knew everything when we were 22 And I was probably worse then most.
  3. I'd go with 12, a team of super genius Asian engineers came up with that number. Just sayin.
  4. pressure plate to flywheel is closer to 12 foot pounds, the 155 could be in inch pounds. Use a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and give it the old good and tight, use locktite if you're worried.
  5. Turns out the big ground to the battery from the engine is important. My battery is charging again, and the starter is quiet.
  6. Should be here in June, ish, at least that's what some reports say. If its on par with a regular forester it'll be worth it. If they charge too much in the way of a smug green premium then they won't sell. I'd get one though, if the price was right.
  7. did you take the plastic off the air filter? unplug and replug every connector that you may have had apart when you pulled the engine. double check the timing belts, did you have the pulleys off? if so verify the drivers side pulley has the teeth on the back for the cam sensor.
  8. My bike, not my kid Its a friend's kid, I'm just not ready for any spawn yet.
  9. Flywheel torque is 69-75 NM, 7.0-7.6 Kg-m or 51-55 ft-lbs More importantly, can I swing by the next time I'm in Baja? I'll probably be on a motorcycle, but it would still be cool to meet our international members.
  10. I've never heard of that being an issue, but there is always a first time. I would double check bolt torque, as loose bolts could be a more likely culprit. Also depending on how you or your mechanic got the axle out it could have changed the alignment.
  11. You'll be back, they always come back. Enjoy your new car!
  12. It was nice and quiet the day I pulled the tranny, I know freak breakdowns do occur, but this would be really weird.
  13. Linky Try this, I recommend the second one down
  14. I've used coat hangers, wire ones, with good results on the rear, much easier when you have a welded rear and need to install/remove every time you go off roading.
  15. good call, tightening the bolts should clear it up, i guess we'll see tomorrow
  16. This has been an idea of mine for a while, and even with the 1500 for the gear it would probably be cheaper than sourcing a Syncro drivetrain. The wheels are turning, and that's bad, usually means I spend too much money. Anyone have a beetle they don't want?
  17. I replaced the clutch on my 94 leggo, it sure is nice to have 5th gear again. replaced the pilot bearing and the throw out bearing, of course. Now when I start the car the starter is really loud. Before it was nice and "normal" volume, but now it sounds like the starter is in my lap. Anyone ever see this before? I'm gonna double check bolt torque tomorrow, and go from there.
  18. not to bust on you but doesn't "dont" have an apostrophe?
  19. I don't believe there are any adjustable parts. As for the refilling, use a funnel and fill from the dipstick tube, its slow going, the system is a shade under 9 qts, and you'll loose at least half of it when you drop the pan.
  20. Replace the oil filter, put in new oil and you'll be good to go. I've had better luck with the low mileage Japanese engines than I have with rebuilders, that might just be my luck though.
  21. Just about every Subaru in every movie ever, already listed We've been here before
  22. Oh no, a sad end to WW1
  23. I'm leaning towards a stuck t-stat, do you ever get heat from the heater?
  24. This is a quote from WJM from another forum, I don't know if he's still active over here but this is what he had to say, FWIW he works at a Subaru dealer. Cliff notes, the STI headgasket will work with the nonturbo EJ25 and is only 5-10 bucks more and is 100% better FINALLY FHI/SOA has heard my word. The 2.5L N/A engine (EJ253) uses the 07 (also same as 06~08 EJ255) STi head gasket. Part number 11044AA670 That's right, THREE (3) LAYER METAL. That means it will NEVER LEAK like the POS single stainless steel w/rubber coating head gasket used on the 99+ EJ25# series. However, the 08+ and 09+ Impreza and Forester still use that POS gasket in their EJ253 engines. I wonder when the Impreza and Forester will switch to the 670 gasket... Background info: The 11044AA642 was used on the 2004~2006 EJ257 and the 2004~2005 EJ255 engines. In 2006 the EJ255 went to the "improved cooling" heads w/out sodium filled exhaust valves. Slight changes in the coolant passages meant a new headgasket and the 11044AA670 was born. In 2007 the STi went to these "improved cooling" heads and it too used the 11044AA670. The EJ255 in all 2007~2008 MY turbo vehicles uses the same. For some reason in 2008, the EJ257 received a different part number gasket, the 11044AA770. In 2009 all EJ255's received this as well. The 670 and 770 appear to be identical. *shrug* Other metal gaskets: 11044AA483: EJ205 11044AA610: EJ25D engines (can use on any EJ257/EJ255; the gasket is a little over 2x's the thickness of the 642/670/770 gaskets) And to revisit, the 11044AA633 is the POS gasket. Previous part numbers for this gasket is: 11044AA520/521, 11044AA630/631/632. AKA do not buy any of those.
