  1. hi paul. i haven't been here in ages and i see your recent post. stay well. dave
  2. Thanks for posting your build. I have a mostly rust free az 78 brat. Just got it running after being parked for 15 yrs.
  3. greetings 78! welcome to the board. 78 brat in az.
  4. Nice! Pop top suby? Gotta be a first.
  5. Kinda like watching your kids grow up and move out. A little bit lonely, a bit cathartic. When i first got on the forum there was alot of gen one rigs. Now it is pretty sparce. I hope to get my 78 brat going again. It is running though. Good luck paul Peace out
  6. I have 3. Two can/will run.... a lifted 78 and a 87. The third is for parts. Arizona!
  7. I'd be interested in turn signal housing. Front left. Or even just the amber clear/ lense. Dp
  8. I have an extra couple of those. Cost to you...nada. let me know where to send it.
  9. I just fired up my 78 brat. It hadn't started for 10 years. I drained the tank ( gen ones have a drain bolt), blew the line from the pump back to the tank. I could get it to run on temporary gas supply but the pump wouldn't pick up the gas. So i undid the fuel line to the pump, took a rag to seal the gas tank off and used my compressor with a blow gun to pressurize the tank. Worked great. You should put the fuel line end in a can cause it will blow everywhere.
  10. I haven't started the brat for 10 years. It has a low mile import 1600 motor with weber. So i drained the tank with the handy drain plug, also pulled the fuel line at the pump and blew it out. Put 2 gallons in and primed the carb. No go. So i pulled the line out from the pump and used a large syringe stuck into the end of fuel line as a temp gas source, worked great. I can get about a minute run time from that syringe. Pump still wasn't picking up, so i used compressed air and a rag to seal it and pumped the gas tank up. Worked like a charm. It was last registered in 2003 and been a yard ornament in my driveway for 15 years. It clicked over like i ran it yesterday. But it is all coming back to me... oh yeah.. stripped axle, cv grease burning on the exhaust, way loose shifter, shifter boot loose at the tunnel, no heater, forgot the cab was that small...there's more. It is worth it though. It has a 3 in lift,14" on steel wheels, low roll bar, camper shell, tow ball, custom front bumper. I've forgotten most of what i knew about these beasts so will be hitting you all up now and then.
  11. Find a drift pin the appropriate diameter, and long enough to drive it out. That would work on 80's axles, not sure on yours.
  12. Nice job on your rebuild. Even for a soob, that is alot of miles.
  13. Really nice job! I just read through your thread. Hope it lights a fire under me. I have a 78 in the driveway needs to reincarnate. I would like to put the dual range tranny in it. I have the fat case, a good running ea71 and a 2nd gen brat for the tranny. I haven't been on usmb for a long time. Again, thanks for posting all this. Great job.
  14. I see you are here....little more older. Me too. I think my '78 brat has sat too long. Want to get it going. Later
  15. I haven't been on here for a long time. Thought I'd give a shout out to Moosens. I still have my '78 lifted brat, sitting in the driveway. dave in Prescott Az.
  16. I haven't been on board for a few years. Still have my gen 1 sitting in the driveway, but isn't running. I see Moosens is still about (howdy Paul). Time to get the suby back on the road. Dave in Prescott Az.
  17. There's a subaru powered dune buggy for sale on craigs in Prescott Az. . It's been on for 2 or 3 days. Going for 500.00. dp
  18. My '78 brat had the same problem. I noticed a wet spot on the lower weld for the back right fender. Opened up the panel and noticed a vent line ? end was wet. I ended up daylighting that hose and all was well. (It didn't drip all that much) dp
