  1. in need of a crank for an ea81. my spare is beat up upon closer inspection. i may have to use the engine from the 78 and re-build another for it later..............not looking forward to taking anything off of a good runnin car....
  2. Where i grew up it was find a way to fix it without spenging any money or walk. just pulled the engine out, popped the heads and found number three piston like this.. popped out the piston and rod . bearing is simply gone rod is beat up and crank too. i have a spare crank that i will polish and i also have 2 sets of std rod bearings. just need main bearings. i saw a set on e-bay for $40 anyone know a better place to look for a better price?
  3. planning on pulling apart this weekend. hopefully just a bearing and i can polish the crank, put new bearings and put back together. I think i pushed her too soon. went up the hill to searchlight doin 60. i stepped on it and the secondary kicked in......man she had power,. got to 90 then laid off and leveled out at 70. I was cruisin for a while at about 4,000rpm and i felt a sudden loss of power....first thought was i fouled a plug but after turning down my death metal i heard the rattle. I shut it down and came to a stop. a hwy patrol immediately pulled up beside me and asked me if i could make it to the gas station a few miles ahead so he didn't have to stamp it with the wonderful orange sticker. what choice did i have? it went from rattle to chitty to bang-bang in 4 miles. i waited for my bro to come get me from bullhead. i pulled the valve covers hoping i had a bent push rod or lost a lobe or any other hail mary founded wish upon a star ideas that passed through my mind. This trucker kept me company with his wisdom...cool southern good 'ol boy standing there with a beer in his hand and another in his pocket asking the same quetions that were running through my mind. to make a short story long..gonna tear down this weekend and post my findings.
  4. I have a built ea71 that runs awesome but i am all the way in vegas
  5. knocks and pings..............Knocks and pings. I got froggy on my way to bullhead city and i think i lost a rod bearing. Fresh rebuild and second oil change...either too early for roughness or loose rod bolt....shes gonna sit a while until i get funds and time to tear it down to find the extent of the damage.
  6. also another thing to check would be the tapered guide for the hub. if the bolts are not checked regularly thes can get loose and form a ridge around the top. i just grind off the ridge carefully and torque it back down. bearings are made from high carbon tempered steel that can resist scratches and wear but as soon as it has to do something it was not designed for it will crack with ease.
  7. my guess is the pressure from the wheel being foced against the caliper would make the inner bearing give. just 1/16 of an inch push on the rim would equal triying to off set 1/4 inch on the inner bearing
  8. new webers are around 250 if you research...check ebay and craigslist and sometimes you'll get a cheap used one if you are lucky. only things to look for on a used one is the power valve and accelerator pump diafragm. Bug shops always carry individual parts as apposed to getting whole kits. I personally use the holley diafragms at orileys for about 8 bones and a small bit of scissor skills. Adaptor plates can be found sometimes on ebay or maybe someone here knows where they sell them. that to me is the easiest fix to your delima unless you want to keep her stock. Best of luck
  9. i think its a special Camouflage pattern for hunting unicorns and fairies.
  10. the tail lights too. i drove around for a year with a shattered lense until i could find one.it looked like the leg lamp on "A Christmas Story" found a NOS tail light on ebay so one looks like a showroom peice and the other dull and faded. i paid 65. if i lived there i would get as many usables possible and offer them up on the forum. make a few bucks and freinds too.
  11. hopefully you dd not break anything. try getting to different RPMs and see if you can get it to slip in if it is the forks it will grab sometimes. seems to me like most problrms in the manual trannys are worn forks. i welded mine and ground them when i lost 3rd on my 4mt. especially if we are the guys who like to rest our hands on the shifter beetween gears causing the wear.
  12. the best way is to cut the seal off with a razor knife or sharpened scraper of some sort and not be in a hurry. if sealant was used in the install you may have to cut the window out of the seal this may take some time. i have insalled seals but never tried to salvage one. maybe someone here has taken out one without deamaging the seal.
  13. Are you gonna lift it? i like those wagons when they sit high.
  14. the wings on that Honda sticker lead me to believe yopu have a bike or ATV
  15. I dont think it would make a difference which way the coolant is pumped through. there should be a valve just before the core that regulates the flow via the linkage from the control panel on the dash. other than that i would check the flaps and cables inside the unit and make sure they are opening and closing properly and your not getting vent air..etc.
  16. nice work. what are the main electrical hook up situations for the EJ swap as i want it in my wagon someday.
  17. Thanks.. I wish i wasn't so far away cuz i really want the front bumper as apposed to my park bench. we all appreciate you saving her.......you never know if theres someone here crazy enough to fix her. Please send more pics of the rest of the car like interior and egine bay. is she 4wd? looks like a 4wd model grill
  18. I did my 78 brat in rattle can when checker changed to o'rileys they blew out all their paint and i got about 20 cans of blue pearl and some black and silver......................hell i even went rattle can clear coat on it!!! yes it can be done if youhave a steady hand ans some masking tape skills. Cant wait to see it finished.
  19. Hell yeah. If my daughter ever gets tired of her 95 sport thats what im doin to it. Cant wait to see it done
  20. Here is what was there this month I was in love with this one.
  21. the tires are actually off the brat and they belong to my son now. I am probably going to use the stocks or find some 15" white spokes to drill out.
  22. same thing happened on my 78. it was the regulator.
