  1. my 85 parts book only shows 2, same as the 4 speed D/R. based off my 85 parts book, I correctly identified the 4-Lo switch, as it works. however the other switches had the wiring broken off, and I have no backup lights at the moment. anybody have a '89 FSM that they can scan the trans drawing, and label the switches?
  2. don't think so. the set of rear discs I got had the pads with them, and no shims of any sort.... I neverreplaced the pads in the other vehicle I had with rear discs, so I never thought about it.....
  3. well, the 5 speed is in finally. I also did the front wheel bearings, and new ball joints. I had originally thought my axle eating was due to the lift/springs set-up, but after diagramming it out, I figured it really shouldn't be the case, so when I pulled my old tranny out, I discovered some very bad tranny mounts. one was collapsing and getting smaller it seemed. the other was very very flexible/worn. I put in a set of good mounts, but not before filling up the rest of the mounts with urethane. I also did the motor mounts as well. put 2 new front axles in as well, and one new rear. now it's very solid. has a bit of vibration at idle that comes through to the cab, but not too bad. tranny shifts fine. the adjustment of the new clutch cable seems oddly tight, but it was the only way to get it to disengage the clutch. all in all, the front end feels as much tighter and better. it's quite a difference. the shift console set-up is kind of cool. used all ea81 parts, and 1 ea82 part. I have all the ea82 shifters/linkage... will try to get pics later. I had to get rid of my "industrial" set-up I had earlier, and went back to the slant console, and mounted the CB on the dash....
  4. okay, about 500 miles ago I put on new rotors/pads on the rears, and re-tightened the brake lines, as they were leaking a tad, and the pads were rattling.... seemed fine before. finally got my new tranny in, and took it for a sping, and the rattling is back. almost like they are loosing pressure. I don't see any brake line leaks. any thoughts?
  5. his original post was with bald tires, and now with decent tires...
  6. maybe the ea82's are supposed to bolt on the inside... I'm just going off the ea81 lift
  7. if they fit on the same as the ea81 lift (sounds like it does) then it needs to be bolted to the outside of the horseshoe, so the springs will be far enough away from the body to not rub (that's the noises you are hearing now. best way, is to bolt them to the front, but leave them loose, then put the bottom mount in, and tighten everything up....
  8. apparently the ea82 inner (DOJ) has a bit more travel to it (longer). good if you have tweaked the suspension on your ea81, and need a bit more travel to help preserve the axles I have too much down travel right now, so I'll be getting different shocks, and most likely some limiting straps as well...
  9. I brought this back up, as I've been doing research on shocks, travel, and looking at options, and saw the piece about the double slip joint rear axles....
  10. looking into options..... hassey offered up to make some a while back, but nobody wanted them.... I have a mint one I will be looking into duplicating, but need to figure out a different mounting scheme for the cab wall......
  11. Mike, did you have your torsion bar tweaked as well?

  13. for the wiringn harness connections to your current 86 intake, you'd be better off to put the entire intake/carb from yours onto the ea81 motor, but I think there might be some fitment issues with one of the coolant lines. a member up in Michgan was trying to do something similar, and ended up just using the ea81 intake. but he was running a weber 32/36 carb upgrade so didn't need much of the electrical connections.

  15. Hey, that's Ed. he's reasonable on his prices. I got a bunch of stuff there my last time out to WA. (tailgate, centerlamp, hatch/brat door...) he didn't have any LSD's last time out. he had sold them all out to some Datsun guys, and probably has since if he's gotten any in. if he's not at his lower shop, his house sits at the top of the hill/yard, and he's usually there if not down below.... I've always seen him with a brown hat on that reads "SUBARU GURU"
  16. those would be about 29", so you'd have to do some fender trimming and some hammering....
  17. I did have to trim the plastic trim at the door as well.
  18. the last 2 pics are in the photogallery for the midwest meet.... have been there for some time.... the lift just allows you to put bigger tires on, which is what gets you the ground clearance...
  19. you can look like either of these without doing any welding... (except the bumpers) both have the Ozified/BYB 4"/3" lift kit. the black one had some cutting help, and some major hammering help to fit the 30's on it. the red one has 27" tires, and now has the suspension in rear cranks up, and some front lift/susp adds/mods.
  20. well, they are just switches, so using my 85 parts manual, I was able to determine which swithes were where I hope.... the 85 tranny only had 2 switches, while mine has 4.... plus I need to replaces some of my switches, as the wires broke off at the switch... I have the tranny and motor back in, but nothing else yet. tonight hopefully the shifters. and the other stuff. then I get to do the front wheel bearings
  21. legacy seats are easier than the ea82 height adjusts.... click on the 'home' link in the gray bar above, then go to 'Subarus of the 80s', then 'helpful diagrams'. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/diagrams/diagrams.html there is a diagram of some brackets I made to fit the height adjust seats into my wagon without doing any welding... or go directly there.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/diagrams/ea82-height-adj-seat-brackets.jpg
  22. I have an 86 Brat without an O2 sensor. runs awesome. didn't have it when I got it at 75k miles. was originally from California too! gets good mileage too.....
