  1. the USC encompasses the running of the whole site. The message board (USMB) is one (the biggest part) function/section of the overall Subaru Information provided on the site. Ultimate Subaru Club is the "business name" that is used. USMB will always be the forums.... at least that's how I view it. Shawn can provide more info...
  2. No, it doesn't come off, but the mechanisms are easy to get to... you will have to move the window up and down to be able to get to where it attaches to the glass....
  3. yes, just swap over the springs only. yes, it's stiffer, and taller, but it's also putting more stress on your axle joints.... (inner)
  4. RX springs will fit on the ea81 struts. will also raise the front end up 1.00 - 1.25"
  5. the seats were pretty dirty, and the drivers side one was ripped. 215k or so on the odometer. the wing is off, and in the backof the car now, but the bolts snapped off, from the rust....
  6. yep. I was suprised I even fit in the front seat
  7. I was so excited when I spotted the wing on the back from several cars away (looking at another soob at the time) and I saw the rear decal and the side decals, but couldn't initially get the hood open.... there was no boost guage, and it has the part time 4wd in it too, not FT4WD. it had been repainted a long time ago, and it seems someone went to great lengths to "fake it"
  8. nope. think small. very small. and a "countryman" of the 14 and 15" wheels we seek
  9. http://usmb.net/gallery/album194 the radio was perfectly upright in it... figure it'd be good to mount a CB and some light switches in for an off-road soobie any guesses as to what vehicle it came out of?
  10. http://usmb.net/gallery/album191
  11. you can get the 4"/3" lift from PK Davis, then throw a couple of mods in with it and have a 5"-6" lift basically... http://usmb.net/gallery/Midwest-2/mcbrat
  12. Ditto what Morgan said. Still a soobie in my book. I like it...
  13. still have some left.....
  14. I think mine is around $27/month for any Gen2 Subaru..... Liability only
  15. pug 14" steels have been found in the following configurations: Oval Slots: 14x5 (was a spare from under the 505) 14x5.5 Round Holes: 14x5.5 (holes have a raised edge around them) 14x6 (holes are "flat") Rectangle Slots: 14x5.5 (I believe) pug 15" Steels have been found as: oval slots no slots (spare) not sure on widths.... the flat spoke 15" pug alloys are 15x6 (or the dreaded 390mm) not sure about the other pug alloys...
  16. don't think I've ever seen a gen1 steering wheel that didn't have a big gap where it cracked and shrank I would use something like "QuikSteel" http://www.vintagetractorspares.co.uk/Accessories/Pages/new_page_1.htm Or JB Stick Weld http://www.midwayautosupply.com/detailedproductdescription.asp?3235 Can usually be found at auto parts stores...
  17. 82 GL here Torreador Red used to have a 82 GL that was black... ShawnW also "owned" it for a day
  18. I have had 4 lifted soobs so far. My first one (still have it): 1986 GL Brat http://usmb.net/gallery/album89/after 3" BYB kit from Australia. ShawnW and I did the Installation 86k and this one sees no midwest salt. it stays safely tucked away. Plan on keeping this to give it to my son when he can drive.... Has short style push bar, low roll bar, and Genuine subaru 14" alloys with 205/70R14 tires. My second one (sold): 1982 GL Wagon - Mountain Grizzly http://usmb.net/gallery/album93/PDC_0331 3" BYB kit from Australia. DesertSoob installed lift kit. ( I bought vehicle from him and turned it into mountain grizzly) had weber 32/36, and GL-10 door panels. had power steering and power windows... sold it to a local guy who is still wheeling it. Had LSD in rear, XT6 alt, rear disc brakes My third one (traded/crushed): 1984 Turbo Brat http://usmb.net/gallery/album93/tbnew2 3" BYB/Ozified kit. Installed by Chris V. before I bought the vehicle. he also put a 4 speed into it. I beat the hell out of the fenderwells and did lots of cutting to make the 30's fit. with the turbo and the 4 speed, I could still smoke the tires Rusty, rusty, rusty. traded to ShawnW for another Brat... My fourth one (still have): 1982 GL Brat http://usmb.net/gallery/album109/PDC_0626b 4"/3" BYB/Ozified lift, modified and tweaked to be about 6" total lift (body/susp), but the weight of the winch and burly bumper bring it back down to 5". Weber 32/36, 27x8.50x14 BFG Mud Terrains on pug steels. Rancho shocks in rear. RX Springs in front. LSD Rear, Dual battery set-up, SuperWinch. XT6 alt, Accel Supercoil, custom 2.25" exhaust and Magnaflow muffler (1.75" headers), rear disc brakes. Currently awaiting a 5 speed conversion and installation of 135 Amp alt (direct fit ) And another Mod will be coming soon to replace the weber I'm a member of the Central Iowa 4 Wheelers (the only soob)... Have made it out to WCSS3 in '01 and wheeled a weekend with Qman and Zap in '02
  19. sounds like an 84 2wd AT sedan I had.... pull the ATF dip stick out smell the fluid. if it smells burned, the tranny is most likely toast.... if not, make sure ALL the vac lines are good, including the one to the tranny... (really sounds like option 1 above though )
  20. Tim, is that 4 speed or 5 speed?
  21. the ski wagon decals were only applied to the wagons that were supplied to the US Ski team and USSA. The Brat Targa Decals, and horizon stripes were "factory" decals/options. There were aftermarket companies that made decals as well, such as the Mountain Grizzly Decals that I had on my wagon... That same company alsomade some different colored ones with a different pic, and they were "Desert Fox" decals. both were made for a Hatchback. The ones like in your pic could have been put on at the dealer as well, but been supplied by an aftermarket Company. They did that with Topper/Camper shells. The local Subie dealer gave me a page from their old Subaru binder that showed all the Jericho caps you could get, and they would be available through the dealer...
  22. some more quirks: the 82-83 Brat had a 8" flywheel/clutch combo 84-87 brats had 9" flywheel clutch combo. 4WD-D/R wagons got the 9" clutch in 83 though. when I converted an 82 D/R tranny to a newer D/R I went to the 9" flywheel that matched up with the new tranny (and the corresponding clutch kit.)
