96 Legacy Turn Signal Problem?
nipper replied to EVOthis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell only one was from Napa. The 2nd was from my mechanic, as well as the third (this was when my back was really bad). He blamed the battery, then my wiring of my accessories (which i knew was BS being an engineer). He also used a digital ALT tester, which i knew from previous expierience, is a useless tool for older cars. Thats when i reached out to subaru and was pleasantly surprised.

96 Legacy Turn Signal Problem?
nipper replied to EVOthis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBlu went through three altenators in one year. Yes one was from NAPA. What was happening is that i was getting imprezza altenators. To have them both side by side they look the same. But for some reason the imprezza altenaotr is three times more money (if your lucky) and doesnt have as high an output. Electronic alt testors kept passing the Altenators. The good old fashioned toaster type analog failed the last "brand new 250.00 Altenator". I said screw this and called 1st subaru. THey said the same thing happens in thier shop. A customer will come in with a slightly under charging altenator that was replaced with a afertmarket alt, and usually three or four times. They finally get a sooby one as an act of desperation. The nice shock was that the replacement was like 80.00 plus shipping for a subaru factory rebuilt alt. The problem was solved. Mine was showing up in the aftermarket compass mirror. It kept cutting out and resetting and i couldnt figure out why. It was the wrong altenator. So yours might be showing up in the turn signal. nipper

Reset CEL 1996 legacy Outback?
nipper replied to ILOVESUBARU's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUnplug the battery for 30 seconds it will clear up. Unplug it for 30 minutes and thats a hard reset. Go someplace that reads codes for free, and they can reset it with the scanner. nipper

96 Legacy Turn Signal Problem?
nipper replied to EVOthis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust for giggles, since the car is old enough do two things 1st run a new ground from the battery to the car body and or engine. 2nd have the altenator tested with an analog tester, the digital ones are useless. nipper

Possiable bad Catilitic coverter and P0420 code
nipper replied to deks69's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell congratulations, your the 2% that actually has a bad cat. i REALLY cant advise you what to do *looks innocint* But If the cat is rattling its shot and clogged up, and can account for the poor gas mileage, and probab;ly some decrease in performance. Since its only one cat right now, just *diagnose* one at a time. at your mileage a Oxygen sensor wouldnt be out of the question. nipper

Air Conditioner question
They are fairly generic. A good mom and pop autoparts store amy be able to match them up. Look for any parts numbers on either one. nipper

Air Conditioner question
The throttle kicker mechanisim is broken. Look around the carb linkage. There will be one little diaphram, that is your choke pull off assembly. Thats i linked to your choke plate. Now if its a vacume kicker, it will look like the choke pull off. It may be an electical solenoid. It will press against a little tab on the throttle linkage. You can suck on the diphram to see if it works, or apply 12 volts to the solenoid. nipper

99 Outback Impreza Flasher
nipper replied to bishop087's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts a failed flasher. The flasher is solid state, so it needs power to operate. If its a failed bulb, you would blink twice as fast. Things to check Are the blinkers working outside the car? Does the 4 way flash? Is the fuse good? It's going to be a dealer item since they rarely go bad. On a legacy its near the fuse panel on the lefthand side under the dash. A Dealer should be able to help you find it. nipper

nipper replied to gekofix's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you are going to go through all the hassel of removing the plugs, they should have been replaced. Did you use OE wires? http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/Trouble/miss_diagnosis.htm I know its a dodge site, but it works for other engines too. nipper

*SOLVED!* looking for experience with HIGH-temp loctite on a clutch
Go to the loctite website, they will be able to tell you how to release it. I have never heard of anyone using loctite on those threads befroe, is it common (I know i never did). Aso the high temp one was prbbly the wrong one to use in that location. nipper

ok, if the viscous coupler is a sealed unit, why does it take 15 minutes..
nipper replied to BajaCA's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe price is correct. It really depends upon the kind of driving you have done, and at what speed on each trip. The fact that is grabbing just means that its not going to go away. Check tire preasures and wear. The viscous coupling is a sealed unit filled with silicon. You can change tranny lube to your hearts content, but it wont have any effect. nipper

2008 STI transmission problem
nipper replied to htan22's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIs there an interlock with the shifter of any kind, where the key is locked, the shifter cant be moved? Was there any grinding? Would the car shift into gear with the engine off?

New Subaru Commercial With Brat
Resumes should always go by snail mail, on textured paper fo some kind and with a cover letter. They shouldnt be related to another communication. When you send a resume by email these days, it just gets lost in the pile, to be processed by software. If i can I prefer to do a snail mail resume over email for a cold mailing. nipper
