It was an isty bitsy teensy weency .....
Oil Filter. I just bought a mobile 1 oil filter for Blu M1-108. It is so small i had to go back to the sotre and make sure i had the right one (bought it last week). Anyone ever have an issue runing one of these. i know its MObile 1 but i just dont like it when filters get tiny and reduce my oil capacity at the same time. i am used to trying to get a bigger oil filter to fit, not a smaller one. nipper

My turn for the Head Gasket replacement
nipper replied to sussman00's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf the engine is going to be pulled to do this, I would look into replacing the noisey pistons. Subaru has replacements that correct this. nipper

nipper replied to dhewitt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think its just subaru hedging thier bets to meet emission code. Spark plugs are replacable and allowed to be replaced at what ever interval the mfg states. nipper

"Store" Brand oil?
nipper replied to a post in a topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI wont trust an off brand unless i know who is actually making it, especially from a discount seller. i am just too fearful of to many chineese counterfits. They can put any thing they want to on the can or the label, but with no traceability, there is no way to prove what it actually is. Been burned too many times by chineese counterfits, or just plain junk, that was not what it was supposed to be. nipper

My turn for the Head Gasket replacement
nipper replied to sussman00's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSeriously giove think over about replacing the radiator. This is up to you. Radiators tend to clog when water hits the oil/antifreeze/water mix and make it glue. Sometimes they can be cleaned out, sometimes they cant. Also when the car gets home, clean out the overflow tank. No one ever does. nipper

What do These control
nipper replied to xt61991's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat is the MAP sensor. It affects everything from shift points, to compensating for alltitude. It samples both the Manifold vacume and the atmospheric pressure. It's slightly inportant. nipper

nipper replied to sussman00's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs long as the engine wasnt cooked, it will be fine. Do change the oil when it gets repaired, aslo a new T stat and cap. nipper

Lessons Learned: What to Take on High Country Trips
Relying on a cell phone is not the greates thing to do, you should have a CB in the car. I have been many places where the cell phone is useless. If your car is running whats the need for the generator, that just adds alot of wight. A first aid kit as well. I have a floding tree saw in the car, flares, a hand help crank up flashilight, battery flash light and a tow strap. I need a new first aid kit. I go wheeling with a paper map as well as the GPS on the lap top. nipper

"Store" Brand oil?

Mixing Oil Grades?
ON non synthetics, studies have shown after a few thousand miles almost all oil ends up as 30 weight. If you mix 10w30 and 5w30 evenly you will get 7.5w30 (same for the other numbers). You arent going to hurt anything by mixing oil weights. i would however recomend staying within the same brand, or at leats type. Every oil compnay has its own special cocktail of additives. Again your not going to hurt anything, but why risk it. nipper PS check the oil pump to make sure its in spec, it may be on the high end of tolerances and need rebuilding.

#&%* Water Pump Won't Seal
nipper replied to crazyhorse001's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNow its time to look at the sealing surface. Take out a straight edge and make sure its flat. Next snug the bolts by hand, then using a star pattern, tighten them one turn at a time. Get out a torque wrench and tighten them to the proper torque, one at a time, one turn at a time. nipper

2003 Forester A/C evaporator removal
nipper replied to kamrows's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhttp://www.aircondition.com/tech/questions/82/ thats how Also there are only one of two ways an AC system gets clogged. One is from a compressor that self destructs, the other is from desicant. The firts one is obvious to rule out.

2003 Forester A/C evaporator removal
nipper replied to kamrows's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSorry i get them confused in my head sometimes. With a leak the system reaches an equilibrium. Remeber 0 psig (gauge) is actually 29psia (absolute), thats what your barometer reads. So even though the system is at equilibrium with the atomosphere (Zero), there is still most likely some refrigerent trapped in the system (hopefully). Also when they pull down the system, they can tell if you will need a new drier. And they arent usually expensive, and easy enough to install. And please dont go to midas. They already are trying to take you by saying they are going to evacuate the system for you. I bet there is almost nothing left in the system to evacuate. nipper
