HELP/cooling issue, weird, 99 OB, 2.5, Water Pump?/Head Gasket?
nipper replied to Mikldom's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXactually it sounds good. If the liners shifted she wouldnt have been able to drive it 50 miles. You should be repaired then good for 200,000 miles. nipper

HELP/cooling issue, weird, 99 OB, 2.5, Water Pump?/Head Gasket?
nipper replied to Mikldom's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes you should be set with a new timing belt water pump cam and main seal, reseal the oil pump. Wires are up to you. The determening factor on weather the engine is good or not is if it was driven with the temp gauge pegged. If it was, this is what is called cooking the engine. The block gets so hot that the cylinder liners shift or come loose. At this point the engine is scrap. You should also have an oil change, as the oil does get stressed when the engine overheats or runs hot. Its just extra insurance. Try contacting subaru directly and see what they say, they may make a deal. nipper

Couple of issues.....Please help out.
nipper replied to suban00b's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXActually its a very simple fix (for a shop), and thats an excellent price. It will get worse and cause more damage with time (sooner then later). nipper

Couple of issues.....Please help out.
nipper replied to suban00b's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell that can be causing everything your feeling. Also the binding can do damage to the carrier bearing, the universal joints, the tires, and make the car handle oddly in the wet. nipper

Couple of issues.....Please help out.
nipper replied to suban00b's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLike skip says, broken belts and bent rims are really easy to see. Another way is to slowly drive away from a freind in forward and reverse while he watches each end of the car. He may see a wobble. Better question, hit any huge potholes or curbs lately? nipper

Couple of issues.....Please help out.
nipper replied to suban00b's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOk first thing first, it is CRITICAL that all the tires match and are worn equally. You may have torque bind, which your just not describing properly. Torque bind can destroy your AWD unit. Is this a manual or an automatic. Make sure all the tires match and are inflated properly. Go out to a parking lot. Make a tight circle, and see if the car will do it under its own power smoothly, with no or very little gas DO this first, so we can rule it out. If this is an automatic put a fuse in the FWD holder under the right side of the hood, near the firewall. See if the issue goes away. We can help diagnose after we rule this out. nipper

Rear wheel Bearings..
I have noticed Blu is getting louder in the rear. At 210,000 miles he is allowed. I am pretty sure its not the rear diff, so I think in the spring I will get Blu new rear wheel bearings. Looking at the FSM, it looks doable in the driveway, if i can snag the tool. AM i underestimating this, or should i let a machine shop deal with the bearing part of it. nipper (and yes im bored so i am thinking about spring work)

2003 Outback H6 Timing Chain Tensioners Question
nipper replied to dbullen's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwell we need to get people to drive the hell out fo them some more. i would get one on the next sooby if i can be convinced it will go way over 200K . Of course if i start buying parts now ... hrmmmm i wonder if the timing on the chains is easier to set then the belt. Otherwise it looks like a straight forward can be done all day in the driveway kind of thing. just dont loose any bolts. Imagine if they are all differnt sizes? Personally i would chaneg a chain anyday over a belt, but thats just me. At least they didnt bury it in th the back of the engine. nipper

voltage question
nipper replied to rpl3000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou need an altenator. Yes low voltage is like running out of gas, car wont go and will do odd things. Also check your battery, as it may be due too. look at 1st subaru or another one of the online dealers. You may be able to get a good deal. I find buying them from subaru better, as there is some real crap out there, and they sometimes sell imprezza alt's for outbakcs. They look the same, they are way more money, but have lower output. nipper

Couple of issues.....Please help out.
nipper replied to suban00b's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSometimes the wheel bearings dont surive a axle change, depending upon how you got the axle out of its happy home in the hub. Also check to make sure the lug nuts are tight, as well as the axle nut. Compare left side to right and make sure one sides match the untouched side. Next is rotate the tires on one side of the car and see if it moves. nipper

electrical hemorhoids
nipper replied to RU OK's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI dont know if this year has one, but by any chance while you were fiddling did you smell a little smoke? Its possible, if you have one, that you burned out the illumiination controler. Fuel gauge, check it at the tank, i bet its dead. Very rare the gauge itself goes bad, if never. nipper

2003 Outback H6 Timing Chain Tensioners Question
nipper replied to dbullen's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHEY bacak away from that wreck, let some of us who want to do a retrofit get a chance. Looking at the drawings on 1stsubaru alot of those guides are friction guides, so they take a beating. The idlers may not be bad, as they are in a lubricated area. nipper
