AC problems
nipper replied to kami333's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCorrect on the test, but you can do the same thing by holding it in your hand. Compressors rarely go bad on soobies, so just by the odds, we can rule that out. If it DID go bad (they don't go quietly into that still night) you wouls still need the system flushed out, and a new dryer and possibly valve. When they go bad they tend to self destruct and thow metal through the system. The compressor is like the engine. Have a hole in a piston or a stuck valave, a vacume needle would bounce. Thge same is true for the AC compressor. I dont even recall the last time somone had a bad one here. The valve should be accessable by taking the cover off the heater core cover. Dumb Question, is the AC compressor clucth engagaing? nipper

any idea what caused this engine to die?
nipper replied to johnceggleston's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLoud bang in a subaru is usually a connecting rod. Look for a large hole in the block someplace. Normally this makes a texas sized gusher, but if they forgot to put oil in it ..... nipper

nipper replied to backwoodsboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere are spring lifts, body lifts, and both. There is a forester Board that will have lots of information for you. Again the Aussies seem to get all the really great toys nipper

Toy VS Sammy VS Sidekick/tracker?
What are you going to tow? Towing with a sidekick or samari just seemd scary to me. Go with the toyota. nipper

Coolant disapperaring act?
nipper replied to subeman90's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXA 2006? How much newer can you get? That would cause me to seriously suspect all radiator caps. A radiator cap at the minimum should last 3 years (if not much longer). nipper

AC problems
nipper replied to kami333's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou may need a new reciever/drier and to have the system flushed. There is a expansion valve. The expansion valve ( or in cheaper systems an orafice is used) may be stuck open by debree. The reciever/dryer is filled with desicant that tends to fall apart if too much outside air/moisture gets into the system. The expansion valve also controls the pressure differntial between high and low sides. It is also possible that it is bad. http://www.hvacmechanic.com/txv.htm Expansion valve operation is the same in all cooling systems. nipper

check out my chop *finished pic last page*
Dont forget some refelctors on the back of that. The shape of that chop (BTW i think its really well done) may catch people extreemly off guard as they come up behind it. You are probably going to need mud flaps or fenders of some kind on the rear wheels. nipper

Coolant disapperaring act?
nipper replied to subeman90's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou just need to open your hood at least once a month to keep track of fluids. Coolant in a overflow does evaporate over time (it gets hot under that hood). If you are not over heating, have plenty of heat, i wouldnt worry about it. If it makes you feel better, you can always do a dye leak test, but it sounds almost normal to me.

Need help interpreting '00obw exhaust pipe paper towel test results
nipper replied to porcupine73's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBAck in the day, way back in the day, this test was used to see if there was a burnt or stuck exhaust valve. The same thing could (DO NOT ATTEMPT) be done at the intake using your palm of your hand. Your hand should be pulled into the intake and not pushed out. The proper way to do this is with a vacum gauge (and they are dirt cheap). The vacum gauge will tell you whats going on much better. The paper towel test may no longer be valid on the exhaust, as that was back before multiple or variable cam timing and emissions. nipper

all warning lights
That would do it. You probably need to replace that pigtail too. Anytime a wire is cooked its no longer safe to use. nipper
-
all warning lights
Check your charging system first. It can do weird things. Next is to look at the ground for cluster. nipper

AWD to FWD fuse--top speed???
nipper replied to JT95's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt says alot of things that we dont pay attention too. SOme things are for insurance reasons, others are to protect their buts. The owners manual akso says that it should be used only for towing and flat tires, so the speed refernce may be for the spare also. nipper

AC problems
nipper replied to kami333's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt can be contaminated with moisture. You cant just fill up a system without using proper gauges. The gauges tell you lost of information besides pressure. nipper
