Depends which engine your going to use. The VW opposed 4 deisel is a gutless wonder (the bus held the record for the slowest vehical 0-60 for those years) and has very expensive parts. I dont think anything else will fit. nipper

I think we all do this once. I did it on a water pump on some straight 6, as the bolt backed out, the ratchet got closer and closer to the radiator, then got jammed..... instant hole. nipper

Check the egr coil with a meter. If it is out of spec, the cpu shuts down the #1 fuel injector. Details are in http://endwrench.com/main.php?smPID=HTML::home.html someplace. A quick overall test is to saok the engine with a hose while the car is running. This will show up a vacume leak (as the water gets sucked in) or a leaky high voltage circuit. nipper

Eggs are really tough. Egyptian paints were one part eggand are still as vibrant today as the day they were applied. http://www.cartalk.com/content/columns/Archive/2004/July/02.html http://www.4x4review.com/tech/radiator.asp Personally i would prefer stop leak as it can handle larger leaks. Also its engineered for it. Its pretty much a wives tail (in modern cars) that it will clog up the cooling system, unless you put more then one in. ALso if it clogs anything up, guess what, it was going to clog anyway. Stop leak needs air heat (temperiture differential) and pressure to activate . GM and SUbaru wouldnt use it as an oficial additive if it was going to clog anything up. nipper

It is also a sales gimmic at dealerships. Its a nicer way of saying used car. The multipoint inspection is no differnt then what is done for the cars saftey inspection, and then they just make sure everything worsk. The other spin on it is that you look at the car, make a list, and the dealer (whoever is selling it) will fix everything that you found wrong. For the most part its just a gimmick. nipper

3AT peeps: I need help. Sort of important.

Ah ok i couldnt tell from the post. That makes it easier for me to say the transmission was bad. SUbaru can be quirky in their parts. DOnt make an assumption and grab as much as you can. Maybe give a dealer parts department a call and ask him what the differnces are. nipper -

Er um, if the car will not go backwards, but will go forwards, its not the torque converter. To test the torque converter, set the parking brake. Put the car in drive. STAND on the BRAKE pedal. Aplly the throttle moderatly fast and read the max engine rpm (do not do this for more then 10 seconds). Report the number back here, as this is the stall speed test. As long as the car doesnt act like its in neutral, (I forget the stall speed RPM) you have a good TC. Next try manually shifting the car from a dead stop. Do all the gears work? DOes the car ever go into reverse? nipper -
There is a second o2 sensor that is in that circuit. If that one fails it will give you the same code. Its cheaper then a cat. Personally I cant agree with buying a cat off ebay. Hunt the net (keep away from easten cat's). With cats you DO get what you pay for, and with ebay sometimes there is no way to return the. By from a reputable source, especially whan your cars inspection relies on this working. nipper
