  1. It can be a long list here. I dont think its that since he said it ran fine initially then all of a sudden craped out. A clogged cat would be pretty much all the time. But what he can do is his the (cold) cat with his hand and see if it rattles. If it does its done. nipper
  2. Well i have the temp sensor i would like to get in the oil stream :/ pressure sensor (which is HUGE) i may do the tee thing. There is some sort of hex cap plug and i cant seem to find it. nipper
  3. That is an altenator and or a bad battery. Your running hot because the car does not have the power to run all the electrics. So you get a weak spark, slow running cooling fans, limping fuel injectors. Check the ALT output and the battery. Check your battery terminals. nipper
  4. can be a fuel filter, but i would check the timing belt again, especially if you reused the belt, or didnt replace the tensioner or idler Which leads to the question, how many miles on this thing
  5. So today i got the power amp and cb in the car. I was going to attack the oil press and temp sensors, but i cant find a tap. i have the oil galley plug from subaru that is made for this, but i cant find where it goes. help. nipper
  6. Check the timing belt. Make sure it is where its supposed to be, that all the timng marks line up
  7. Well check the cam timing, and then do a compression test. These engines can only take so much overheating before something gives. nipper
  8. Depends which engine your going to use. The VW opposed 4 deisel is a gutless wonder (the bus held the record for the slowest vehical 0-60 for those years) and has very expensive parts. I dont think anything else will fit. nipper
  9. The airbag puter may need to be reset. You can try the disconnect the battery trick, or have a sooby dealer do it. I dont know if disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes will reset it or not. nipper
  10. It works perfectly well on the bottom of the engine. It keeps the engine temp constant. When something was fine before removing the timing belt, then isnt afterwards, the culprit is the timing being off one tooth someplace. I am assuming the car had power before you did the HG's nipper
  11. Try the online subaru dealers. Also the busings themselves can be aftermarket. In fact you can probably find some high performace one that will tighten up the ride a bit. nipper
  12. Well with a new cat, if the sensors ahve over 100K, they should be replaced anyway. Always replace the sensors first, cat second, as it may save you 300.0 bucks. nipper
  13. I think we all do this once. I did it on a water pump on some straight 6, as the bolt backed out, the ratchet got closer and closer to the radiator, then got jammed..... instant hole. nipper
  14. I knew the puter would be ok, but now i will make a mental note on the sensors. Eventually i knew you were going to have to get the system scanned and reset by a professional. How did they replace the passneger side, did it just bolt in? nipper
  15. Check the egr coil with a meter. If it is out of spec, the cpu shuts down the #1 fuel injector. Details are in http://endwrench.com/main.php?smPID=HTML::home.html someplace. A quick overall test is to saok the engine with a hose while the car is running. This will show up a vacume leak (as the water gets sucked in) or a leaky high voltage circuit. nipper
  16. Eggs are really tough. Egyptian paints were one part eggand are still as vibrant today as the day they were applied. http://www.cartalk.com/content/columns/Archive/2004/July/02.html http://www.4x4review.com/tech/radiator.asp Personally i would prefer stop leak as it can handle larger leaks. Also its engineered for it. Its pretty much a wives tail (in modern cars) that it will clog up the cooling system, unless you put more then one in. ALso if it clogs anything up, guess what, it was going to clog anyway. Stop leak needs air heat (temperiture differential) and pressure to activate . GM and SUbaru wouldnt use it as an oficial additive if it was going to clog anything up. nipper
  17. White vinegar is perfect for that duty. Feed the car red vinigar and next it will want you to shift with your pinky out glad it all worked out, and yes that mineral was from using tap water. nipper
  18. http://www.aluminum.org/Template.cfm?Section=2002&template=/ContentManagement/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=3559 I found that. nipper
  19. It is also a sales gimmic at dealerships. Its a nicer way of saying used car. The multipoint inspection is no differnt then what is done for the cars saftey inspection, and then they just make sure everything worsk. The other spin on it is that you look at the car, make a list, and the dealer (whoever is selling it) will fix everything that you found wrong. For the most part its just a gimmick. nipper
  20. Ah ok i couldnt tell from the post. That makes it easier for me to say the transmission was bad. SUbaru can be quirky in their parts. DOnt make an assumption and grab as much as you can. Maybe give a dealer parts department a call and ask him what the differnces are. nipper
  21. Er um, if the car will not go backwards, but will go forwards, its not the torque converter. To test the torque converter, set the parking brake. Put the car in drive. STAND on the BRAKE pedal. Aplly the throttle moderatly fast and read the max engine rpm (do not do this for more then 10 seconds). Report the number back here, as this is the stall speed test. As long as the car doesnt act like its in neutral, (I forget the stall speed RPM) you have a good TC. Next try manually shifting the car from a dead stop. Do all the gears work? DOes the car ever go into reverse? nipper
  22. There is a second o2 sensor that is in that circuit. If that one fails it will give you the same code. Its cheaper then a cat. Personally I cant agree with buying a cat off ebay. Hunt the net (keep away from easten cat's). With cats you DO get what you pay for, and with ebay sometimes there is no way to return the. By from a reputable source, especially whan your cars inspection relies on this working. nipper
  23. hell if i had a justy or a swift or a 79 civic ild use it as my daily driver. We just broke 3.00 a gallon here nipper
