Converting my Loyale Wagon to Electric?
I was thinking... I was looking at electric kits, and it dawned on me. A justy with a cvt transmission. The electric motor would get around the electric clutch issues (dont need it). The cvt is like other cars they are using (wonder how it can be calibrated). If the can convert geo metros to run electric, why not a Justy? nipper

Pesky Check Engine Light
nipper replied to legacyak's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSIgh... Its NOT your converter. You need a new O2 sensor. When the front O2 sensor goes bad it gives a poor cat effeciency code. It 99% of the time a bad front O2 sensor. This is the heart of your emissions system and will affect drivability, emissions, gas mileage, or all of tyhe above (and sometimes none). Its covered very well in the forums. If your cat doesnt smell, doesnt rattle when you hit it with your hand, and no high rpm driving issues, then its not your cat. You need a new mechanic too.

Quick advice to help choice between two Legacies
nipper replied to frag's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 95, is it obdI or obdII? Personally, even with the possability of a bad HG looming over the 99, i would go with the 99 since its newer and OBDII. Now that being said, he still has to check to make sure the tires still match, that it passes the tight circles in the parking lot test, and since its canada, to check for rot. nipper

'98 Outback Air Bag Control Module Dies 3 Times
nipper replied to Foveator's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts a electrical terminal in the connector thats coming loose, thats my guess. When the inside of the car gets hot, the connector expands and screws things up. If they do a scan and it comes up a bad module, i would look at the wires that power the module directly. nipper

Stuttering / hesitation on '95 Legacy
nipper replied to destey's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmiles and engine please? Do you know if its an OBDI or OBDII car (do you have a spedo cable). Inspect your knock sensor. nipper

96 Outback died wont run
nipper replied to Steve455's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThats one part of the test. Get the haynes manual. The sensor is an hall effect sensor. As a metal tab passes by the sensor and makes an AC pulse. You need an analog meter to check for the heartbeats as you turn the engine over either by hand or with a breaker bar. You need to check both sensors. A digital meter will not pick up the pulse. The pulses should be of the same voltage. They are not evenly apart (hence why you should have the manual). to see the pattern. The crankshaft pattern is not evenly spaced. You need to rotate the crank 360 degrees to make sure it reads all the pulses, as this will rule out any missing tabs.

Pesky Check Engine Light
nipper replied to legacyak's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmileage would help too. If its over 100K a blind guess would be an O2 sensor, but have autozone pull the codes. nipper

Converting my Loyale Wagon to Electric?
Iceland is unique in its location, low population, and natural resources. They will become the first (and only) Hydrogen econmy in the world. This is due to all the geothermal resources available. As far as green fuel goes, It is far more cleaner and cheaper to mass manufacture energy (with todays technology) then to have each house with its own Gen set. ELectricity is about as green as you get due to the way its produced at one source with one set of emission controls. Best is hydroelectric (but that leaves enviormental scars and is ageing). Next is Natural gas, which just comes out of the ground, requires very little to no porcessing and is delivered by pipeline. After that you have the Dino fuels, which easily comes out of the ground, requires little energy to process, and can be delivered by pipeline (the trucks at the end make it dirty). After that you have coal (plentiful but has many issues). Then you have the energy sources where you have to put energy in to get energy out, gassified coal, alchol, and hydrogen ( I worked in that industry). I left out nuclear as its an animal all on its own. Personally i would love an electric car around town, and am considering it. Do whatever makes you feel good. Anything that uses less foreign fule is a good thing. nipper

white smoke out tailpipe
So you elected a new pope.... You just listed every reason why it should do it. Don't worry about it unless you start loosing coolant. Also smoke for burning coolant is heavy, off white, and tends to hang around, where as smoke from condensation is more white and whispy. nipper
