They cured the design fault, that doesnt mean its doesnt break anymore. First thing, make sure all tires match and are properly inflated. Put the fwd fuse in the holder and see if it goes away. If it does it means electrically everything is working and the clutch pack isnt fused. Second flush the tranny (100 bucks is cheaper then 800-1000). That solves it 90% of the time. The legacy is simple car, so dont be intimidated. The awd is straight forward on the automtaics, on the manuals they are much more complicated mechanically. The clutch pack is always engaged and designed to handle some slippage (like curves). Constant slip kills it really fast (mismatched tires). The duty c solenoid controls the amount of AWD applied. Putting the fuse in powers the solenoid constantly so there is no awd at all. nipper ok im getting scared, this is the second post that asked for me by name

sounds like it is the ignitor or an ignition problem. Next time it stalls check and see if you have spark. Can be a dying knock sensor, the backfire, floored throttle has me a bit perplexed. SOunds more and more like ignition. nipper -
i've gone upscale, i want a capacino. The OBW can pull its stuff, just drop the air pressure and have an on board air compressor (just like any beach comber). 5 speed is a 50/50 split. Automatic is a 10/90 varing to 50/50. i'm geting to be a bigger fan of automtics on beach vehicals. If you get stuck its hard to modulate the clutch/throttle when you dont have a grany gear. Also you can simulate lsd on front and rear by gently applying the brake pedal, you can get torque to all 4 wheels (basically waht the new computerized systems do). As far as the head gasket, in a 8 year old car or older thats always a chance on any car. But i have been seeing less and less HG issues as they are getting repaired. i like nutmeg and cinamon in that capaccino nipper

more expensive is NOT better (just means good marketing). Everyone here seems to agree to go with OE, as the more expensive plugs dont seem to work right some times. Search on spark plugs for lots of information. Some cars dont run on platnum plugs that well. Also there is a rebuild kit of the PS pump to stop the leaks. Dont skip the waterpump, you will regret it. nipper

Its good it happened to him. Its bad that mortal sin that you commit The ecu will store codes. Most codes will trigger the ecu, a few dont. Also some codes dont stay in memory (since they are minor or do not happen long enough to be considered a hard fault). Also when you use a scanner, you can read the sensors in real time to see what they are doing, and it will also tell you (i think) wetaher certin valves are opned or closed. You may have a stuck purge valve. A stuck valve may not throw a code, but if the coil for the valve was dead that would throw a code. nipper

actually with ethanol dry gas is almost a moot point. You may have dirt in the tank. If you have used more then one tank of gas since storage then any water should be burned up. Another possability is that the jet pump is clogged (fancy term for in tank siphon) or clogged. Soobies have split gas tanks, and use a siphon to drain gas from the left side. You make a right turn, gas moves to the left, and for some reason isnt getting sucked up right away. i vote for dirt. nipper

exactly when does the car do this? is it hot or cold? first drive in the morning or after its been sitting a few hours? Is it predictable or intermitent? Subaru tachs dont work off the coils, the tach gets its signal from the ecu. When was the last time the car had a tune up, and yes dont rule out the ignitor. nipper

drive sensibly? what is this "drive sensibly" of which you speak? thats no fun. Seriously just watch the temp gauage everyso often and youll be fine, beating the crap out of it drive sensibly if its going to go, its going to go. Its not a performance issues, its an erosion issue of the HG and overestimating the sealing force required in a thin spot of the gasket. It's only about 15% of the engines and the longer time goes by, the less of these bad HG there are of none repaired HG's nipper

EEEEKKK alas my warnings have gone unheaded Tranny pans have to be removed as methodically as a cylinder head to prevent leaks, and the same reinstalling it (oil pans too though they tend be stiffer). Its easy to bend the lip and cause a leak, or make an existing one worse. It may not be the gaskets fault. Get a steel rule or straight edge and make sure the pan flange is flat. Reinstall the pan using a star pattern and slowly tighten the bolts. All else fails there is always RTV. nipper

er um, there are easier questions to answer. like is there a God. a good driver should get 80,000 miles at least. On subarus it seems like 130,000 or more is not out of the question, even more if you have a hill holder. If you have a clutch cable, replace that too (never know what other countries have). nipper
