wiring a manual into a 4speed auto car
ballitch replied to scrapdaddytatum's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think after you jump the two wires (one from ecu and one from tcu to tell ecu its a MT car) you shouldnt need to hook up an of the ecu -->tcu wires..........am i wrong in this assumption? ~Josh~ -

changing fuel filter questions on ea82
ballitch replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is the fuel filter in the engine compartment on that car......cant think right now.....if it isnt move it into the underhood area so you can see the filter, and get a clear one from gi-joes for like 7-8 bucks. just use vise grips to pinch off the lines....the soft lines of course, and change filter. not to hard. ~Josh~ -
Why do people hate Loyales?
ballitch replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i love my 86 gl, maybe thats why im spending alot of money on it, i could just sell it for like 2-3 hundred, but its my first car man, and 5 speed D/R with a soon to be EJ22........hmmm....hmmm...B**CH........i especially like the non-attention formt he fuzz, and the ricers that i will demolish when the conversion is done.......ill be like ill race your civic hatchback with one person in it vs. my mom wagon with 3 peeps in it, and own yo a$$. cant wait. cmon someone trade me my 3 wire tps throttle body for your 4 wire tps throttle body straight up now................no one.................hmmm.. ~Josh~ -
Will EJ22 idle w/o throttle position sensor ....
ballitch replied to ballitch's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
ya the 4 wire tps has the hole in it for the shaft of the thr. body, just a hole though, the 3 wire one has like a flat piece with 2 little finger-like things that move the tps, not even close to being switch-able. if i had a digi and knew how to post pics i would sho ya..........im just going to have to find a 4 wire thr. body or something i guess. anyone got one that they dont need, trade me for mine? cmon you know you want to. ~Josh~ -
Will EJ22 idle w/o throttle position sensor ....
ballitch replied to ballitch's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
i have the 4 wire tps, only problem is i have a throttle body for a 3 wire tps. if anyone could help tell me how to wire the 3 wire throttle body into a 4 wire tps it would be cool, or if somone needed a 3 wire throttle body and has a 4 wire tps throttle body, or if someone could tell me how to "adapt" the 4 wire tps onto a 3 wire tps throttle body. guys...............guuuyyyyssss............................................................guys............................. ~Josh~ -
i wonder why i didnt think of this before, awesome upgrade btw, cant say how many times i needed more wiper fluid while mudding and stuff. ~Josh~

What are rules for PAP, Northend Seattle?
ballitch replied to jdub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and keep the questions about five finger discounts to yourself. pocket treasures i think they are called....something like that. ~Josh~ -
the fuse has FWD written on it and it should be next to your passenger side strut tower, open your hood and look to the top left corner, and look about 3 inches down and about 3 inches to the right and you should see it, unless your 1996 legacy somehow didnt get the AWD system installed at the factory, which probably didnt happen. ~Josh~

just remember that it will throw your odometer off by that same percentage. -
people that say "you need to avoid the EJ25 (2.5 litre subie motor)" need to do some resaerch first, not trying to piss in anyone's cereal here but subaru has made HG changes and doesnt seem to have any problem at all with the new gen HG's, yes its true they are open deck designed motors, but the fact remains that alot of people had problems with the generation previous to this one's 2.5 litre HG's acting up and going bad, but dont let one rotten egg stink up the whole farm. ~Josh~

As the title says, a little background info first. the 1991 legacy harness i got has a different throttle pos. sensor than the 1996 motor i got for my EJ22 conversion, question is will the motor idle with wiring all hooked up and grounded and all that jaz. the wire colors are totally different and my damn chiltons manual doesnt have s**t on the wiring in detail like i need it. im thinking if i hook all but the throttle pos. sensor up, if it WILL idle then i can just experiment with wire combinations until i get the right one, problem is the 1996 throttle pos. sensor has 3 wires, the 1991 harness has 4. Just need to make the computer happy and get that B**CH on the road!!!! any input is appreciated. ~Josh~

are you telling me that when i wanted to rebuild my EA82 motor all i had to do was email ramengines.com and get my rebuild kit, without going through all this trouble of a ej22 conversion, i would have made a BIG mistake by doing that, cant deny 60 extra horsepower. just too darn tempting. ~Josh~

Aussie Hatch... Now ej22 Converted. (with pics)
ballitch replied to SuBaRiNo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
its not hard to make your own, the bottom holes of the EJ22 motor and the EA series trannys line up perfectly, with that said al oyu have to do is use some 1/8'' plywood and make a pattern, drill out your dowel pin holes, on motor and tranny, and lay out the bolts for the motor and tranny, look in the EA to EJ conversion condensed thread for a link i posted about subarinos conversion, many a question will be answered. after you have a working pattern get yourself some 1/2'' steel or aluminum and cut it out, if you use aluminum you have to cut it with plasma cutter, and nothing else. if oyu dont, your adapter plate will warp because of the heat from a torch or acytelene cutter. ~Josh~ -
well here are your possibilities, A, hg blown on driver side but you said it was okay. B, cam may be off by one tooth, but that would cause ALOT of vibration. C, worn piston rings, sounds like your best bet to me, had a similar problem in my 86 gl. D, worn or carbon coated valves or valve seats. E, cracked head or cracked in between valves head. thats the only things i can think of at this point. ~Josh~

one more thing, make sure the engine you buy for your converison is in the same generation as the wiring harness you get, i got a 1991 5MT legacy harness and i am using a 96' imprezza motor, engine harnesses are different, good thing the guy i bought my harness form included the engine harness also, what a bro that guy. oh ya, to the top baby. ~Josh~

i must add my two cents seeing as i have put my fair share of stereos in, make sure to run your power wire at least 8 gauge for up to 500 watts, make sure you put the RCA cables and power wire ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE CAR, if you dont you WILL hear alternator whine. I made my 10'' sub enclosure out of a concrete tube, get them at home depot for like $7. measure the inside diameter of the tube and do the equation for volume in a cylinder, 3.14 times radius squared times height equals volume. use inches to make it simple. then oyur going to have to cut out two round ends, dont forget to add the thickness of the ends to your overall cylinder height, you need at least 2 cubic feet of volume for a 10'' sub and 3 cubic feet for a 12'' sub. and grab yourself a port from an audio store, theyre like 20-25 bucks, cut it acordding to their formula, the port should look like the end of a trumpet or other musical instrument, both ends of the port should look like that. use silicone sealant, grab that at home depot too, like $5 for that, and some 1 1/4'' drywall screws, about a pound box will do just fine, grab some plumbers tape and when your done you willl use it to fasten the sub tube to the car using screws, and make sure you dont screw threw any hardlines underneath the car, you should be fine. make sure to buy an amp that complements your sub. if you get a dual voice coil sub with 2 ohms of impedance, get an amp that is stable down to 2 ohms and make sure it is 2 channel, next bridge the amp to make the most power that it can, and hook it up, talk to the guy at stereo king and ask him what subs and amp to buy for blah amount of bass. if you have any questions about a sub and amp combo you want to try, get the figures form the boxes of both and pm me with them so i can tell you if the two will work together, or if youre going to blow your sub in a week if you use that combo. kinda long, dang i was trying to keep it short. ~Josh~

When the snowstorm of 2004', the "huge" snowstorm we had in the PNW last year, I was on my way to a starbucks, yes i know, with my girlfriend in the car. I was slowing down before i got to the top of the bridge in salem, and i started using brakes and manually shifting my automatic into 1st gear, the traffic was smart behind me and did as i did, i was in front in the middle lane. There this retard in a newer honda accord goes by me at double my speed downhill (about 15-18 mph) and puts on the brakes and starts to slide, he slides all the way through the intersection until he lets off his brakes, where's a damn cop when you need one, If i'd have done that crap id be in handcuffs for wreckless driving and wreckless endangerment. stupid dumba$$. ~Josh~

ya baby optima red top, like 900 ca and 750 cca, if it'll turn over a 460 ford motor it'll turn over my EJ22.
