New guy with Tranny trouble
Dude, ditch the damn AT, I hate AT so im biased, but a manual will last longer than 2 motors no problem if you take care of them and dont super-fast-mega-ham-fisting-monster-speed-shift the darn things. the 1990 legacy i just bought has 245k on the odo and shifts like butter. someone back me up on this. ~Josh~

Frigg! How do I make my aftermarket speakers fit?
ya make sure your window is DOWN when you put your speakers in. If these are high-dollar speakers oyu may want to think about some sort of plastic or foam surround to go over the backside of the speaker so rain and moisture and heat dont destroy your good speakers, weather gets in form the rain lip thingy that sort of squigies the window when you roll it down. you know what im talking about right..................... ~Josh~

2 cars to build one
I would have to say put the efi motor in the carbed 86 gl you just acquired, about 10 more horsepower and better reliability. I believe there was a link about carb-to-efi conversion, search for new posts, should be there as of today. 4wd is awesome, i dont think that it would be too much trouble, only question is do you have another car for a daily driver while you do the conversion. ~Josh~

opinions on an EJ 18 swap vs. EJ22
not to mention the fact that the EJ18 redlines at 7250 instead of 6000. but making less horsepower might make for a really good increase in mpg, compared to the stock motor......more power= less gas to move car......1.8 liters vs. well....1.8 liters. ~Josh~

Another source of EJ series Dual Range trannys
the only benefit i can see is the fact that the ej tranny could hold more power than a ea82 D/R, but with a higher low range i odnt think that the benefit owuld outweigh the price of say cryo'ing an ea82 D/R tranny. ~Josh~

rebuilding an LSD
sorry to burst your bubble, but unless you are traveling at aobut 20 mph or more a vlsd is not much more help than a regular old open-diff, I have to use the go pedal like a madman around corners in my 98 legacy, understeer insues and about 3/4 thru the turn the vlsd kicks in, WAY TO LATE. you have to wait for the fluid to heat up enough to put a decent load on the diff. by then its time has come and gone, but not true for all-wheel-drive parking lot drifting, works wonders when you are always on the gas. GO AWD!!!!!!!!!

Carb to EFI conversions
you're going to wait for 10 horsepower to just waltz up to you and smack you in the face or something? not to mention I hate carbs and have no reason to because mine never failed me and got 30 highway and 24 city, that was with 86 gl and hicrappy. ~Josh~

Slightly hard upshift on 98 Legacy Auto from 1st to 2nd
ballitch replied to jeelanik's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 4EAT is the electronically controlled 4 speed automatic transmission with a lock-up torque-converter, some people call it electronic overdrive or some crap but they are full of S**T. Futhermore there are no gear synchronizes in automatic transmissions, just little sun and ring gears with lots of valve bodies and fluid, and alot more crap that makes for a poor connection to the ground, but im not bitter...............ok i am bitter. ~Josh~

WRX mastercylinder in an EA82?
that is true but you will have more brake fluid flow, so if you upgraded to a higher piston caliper count (2 vs. 4), brake fluid dynamics can get pretty complicated.

Found a junked legacy for my swap. How can I verify the engine is good? (EJ22)
ballitch replied to RavenTBK's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI usually grab all sorts of pocket freebies at JY's, I say why the f**k not man! bastards over-charge for stupid stuff, $300 for a rear diff, damn you could get yourself one shipped from alaska and still have plenty of money left over.

Random clicking sound behind instrument panel
ballitch replied to rodsherrill's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXnope it is pretty consistent for me, it does it right before wipers move, doesnt seem to be vibration induced. ~Josh~

I have no idea what the heck it is or how to get rid of it.

okay need some help.......with 2.2 conv.
no, no, no. I was going to wire it up to the IG wire on the ignition, when you take apart the actuall ignition, where the key goes in, the IG wire only becomes hot when you turn the key to the ON position, just before start, does a fuel pump draw that much of an electrical load? So you guys are saying wire it up to the EA coil "+" terminal, or wire it up to the EJ fuel pump relay wire on the EJ harness. Ill go with option A as long as the ECU doesnt want to "see" a fuel pump signal. Thanks everyone, ~Josh~

okay need some help.......with 2.2 conv.
thank you John, pump works very well by the way, im sure it will work perfectly, I just had to swap out the mounting bushings from old pump to new pump on the mounting plate, and buy some brass fittings to step down in diameter to use stock hard fuel lines. just have to finish wiring, that gonna take some time.

Repost: EA82T, INJECTION vs. EA81, CARB.
turbo is usually undesireable for off road because of the rpm's it takes to get boost, even 2k rpm is getting near the point of useless wheelspin, which gives you no traction at all, but it sure is fun, you will usually find that you wont go over 20 mph off-road unless your going baja-new-mexico-style on it. carbs are easier to repair off road than efi. I say neither, but i like EA82's so im biased. ~Josh~

Clutch replacement WITHOUT a cherry-picker
the motor mounts are located under the engine, did you remove the pitch stop from the bellhousing? Also, did you drop the tranny? if you drop the driveline(if you have 4WD) and unbolt tranny, and crossmember shouldnt you be able to lower tranny with tranny crossmember and tranny in a package, then you should be able to unbolt bellhousing from motor, and come to think of it you dont really have to remove bellhousing in order to gain access to the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel assembly. now i am just rambling. ~Josh~
