83 Brumby after painting
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to kiwishooter's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
my one is white with a canopy an alloy bullbars...if you want when i'm down in a week or so you can have a look at it... lol altho be warned its no show car dunno about finding a power steering rack to fit a brumby....maybe you could get Otago Metals subaru wreckers to keep an eye out for one? how are you setting up the gearbox mounts?....i'm using the original 4spd mounts....i wouldn't do it that way again because the FT4WD 5spd is a bit heavy for them...when i get some time i'm going to make another crossmember to take the bigger mounts off a EA82 or a Legacy -
Midpipe Resoner
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i replaced my midpipe resonator last week.....i put a straight thru cherrybomb (known here as a hotdog) muffler on it....its noticeably quiter than with the resonator on one thing i found interesting was that the pipe downstream of the resonator was twin walled....one pipe inside the other -

4EAT TCU Inputs?
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to LPGsuperchargedBrumby's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
hmmm TPS RPM an Speedo....famous last words maybe....but that don't sound too complicated to get to work -
anyone know what input signals the 4eat tcu needs to know to change at the right times? TPS and RPM....is there anything else that the TCU needs? the reason i ask is that i am trying to figger out if its possible to get a 4EAT to work behind a carbureted EJ22... any ideas would be appreciated....

EA2EJ... Carbureted?
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
i'm running a EJ22 as a carby & dizzy....admitedly i'm running lpg so that was the only way i could do it easyily.....but ive had no problems with the carb an dizzy setup that weren't my own fault....i'd say go for it....lol an how many ppl can say they have another whole ignition and fuel system wrapped in rags in the back just incase...hahaha try that with fuel injection -
i've done the RX FT4wd box into a brumby...i got a set of custom DOJ's made up to fit the brumby shafts to the RX stubs...cost me NZ$250 (about US$150ish) a few years ago. can't see why you couldn't get the same thing done in the states....all the parts for it where off the shelf...most driveline specialists should be able to do it

time to de-rwd my loyale
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to codytotheh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you guy in the US must get the Lawyer approved "don't sue me" version's of the haines manuals..... the only thing my ones don't show is how to strip and rebuild the internals of an automatic transmission....i've never hit anything else it doesn't show and theres not much on my brumby that i havent done and the haines manuals i have for the EA82 and legacys are the same...only miss showing internals of auto 'boxs -

oil pan clearance differences ea81 -> ej22
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to mcbrat's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
rounded EJ22 sump clears the sump guard by about an inch...square bottomed EJ18 sump was alot closer but still cleared with room to spare -
i had a bad memory blank....i forgot that you need to fill an EJ thru the top radiator hose:mad:...air locked the waterpump and boiled it:eek:....thought it was the thermostat not opening so drained the coolant and changed the thermostat....still hadn't remembered that it needs to be filled thru the top rad hose...boiled it again and the electric fan didn't start:confused: that got me thinking that the water pump was toast...after it had cooled down, dropped the coolant again and pulled the covers and belts and dropped the pump off...it was a new'ish looking GMB aftermarket pump the same as the one i'd just gone and bought tp replace the 'toasted' one with....got me thinking WTF??? at this stage i was getting a little annoyed anyway i couldn't understand what was going on so i came on here to see what i could find....found out about the need to fill it thru the top radiator hose...ya can imagine how i felt about that:mad:. anyway put it all back together with a new timing belt seeing as it was already apart...filled it coolant again THRU THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE lol...a sudden rain storm cought me napping with the bonnet up...and it wouldn't start when i tried it...but this time i was really pissed...thought i had messed up the timming belt change cos it would spit and pop but wouldn't start...found that the plug holes had a fair amount of water down them so blew it out with compressed air...started then but was missing and popping like mad...was also leaking out of the thermosat housing:mad:...drained the coolant again and gave up for the night this morning i redid the RTV silicon around the T-stat housing filled up coolant (thru top hose lmao) said a prayer to the subaru gods and hit the starter...she turned over about 3 times and lit up into a beautiful smooth idle....if anyone in the us heard a odd noise a few hours ago... it was me yelling with glee. tooking for a test lap then had a tuning session...timing now set to 12deg btdc....anyone know what the EJ22 is ment to be set to? loving the extra PAHWAA hahahaha awesome anyway that ends this epic post of mishaps
-
uploading files to photo bucket as i type lol found out that is the thermo stat doesn't open that the electric fan won't work...and suddenly as your fiddleing under the bonnet with your newly installed running motor the stupid thing starts boiling its head off with no warning...and as you stumble backwards out of the billowing cloud of steam from the overflow you realise that its still running and boiling as well and have to do a runner for the key.... oh yeah...and it doesn't leak anywere near as much water if you hook the heater hoses up BEFORE ya go for a test lap:lol: http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq310/LPGsuperchargedBrumby/

i'm getting pics as i go along with my new boxing day sale digicam:lol:...still got to load the software for onto my computer. the EJ18 that i'm pulling out is a factory carbureted model...the EJ22 will have the dizzy and intake swapped over onto it....i'd like to use the injected manifold but my LPG mixing ring won't fit on the EJ22 throttle body...and i'd need to buy a pod filter an piping to hook it all up

just my luck at this time of year....was driving into town yesterday approching the bottom of a fairly steep longish hill...chopped down a cog,put foot down and all of a sudden i'm running on 3 cylinders. got back home from town and started to investigate...got spark, got fuel (carby'd ej18)....and no compression....thinking that i have taken a chunk off a valve or something similar. got another motor coming from that local subaru guru's cave...an ej22 for the equivalent of about $430 US dollars:eek:.....so high cos of having to pay someone to work this time of year(would normally be about $300USD).....however motor is being pulled today and i can pick it up tomorrow morning. lol and i was complaining of being bored a couple of days ago....guess i deserved this then

You need a Permit for a christmas tree???... Has America changed its name to the USSA while i wasn't looking?:-p RLMAO lol all we have to do is find a wilding pine the right size and bust out the chainsaw (pine and douglas fir are not native here....all good greenies must cut at least one down before breakfast) have fun getting your pinetree dude -
i'm going to do my timing belt and was woundering if anyone is running a SOHC EJ with no timing belt cover as my front covers are pretty shot....as in held on by zip ties because they are all broken around the bolt holes. is there any reason why i couldn't or shouldn't run an open belt (besides getting a stone in the belt)?

EJ Swap - Different approach - Need your expertise
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to P K's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
we got the spfi ej18's here (New zealand)....they do use an optical dizzy....the carby'd ej's we got run a real dizzy and a feedback carby setup. as for the power difference between the ea82 an the ej18 i think a lot of it comes down to 4 valves per pot vs 2 valves. but then i'm only a welder...what would i know about engines....(LMAO...sorry long story from work behind that comment) -
