EA82T + Turbo Lag = teh SUCK!
Russ, thanks for the reply. I know how busy you are. I wont be needing that engine, but the downpipe is something im interested in. I already purchased a cone filter/adapter from ebay.... if it doesnt work out I can always put the box back on, but for $20 i figured "what the hell". I remember you mentioning the turbo and the clutch as needing to be replaced, so I think im going to put my off-road subaru plans on hold and take alittle $$$ ive been saving, and just do it. I'll be planning an engine pull to re-seal the engine (just oil pan, valve cover gaskets... intake, exhaust gaskets etc) and while Im at it, i guess a new turbo and clutch are in order as well. If I had more time off, i'd consider doing it all in San Jose... a job like this shouldnt take more than a day with a couple pro's... maybe kick down some pizza and drinks for everyone involved (got a few friends in San Jose as a matter of fact). But with 6 day work weeks, i dont see that happening anytime soon. Lets see what this cone filter does, and i gotta track down my TPS to do some adjustments. -Brian

EA82T + Turbo Lag = teh SUCK!
Corky, maybe your right. There's a Subaru Shop up the hill in Newcastle where I should take it. The guy who runs the shop knows his subaru's, and turbo's. He has a few Legacys (how i met him, when i had mine) but I wonder if he could run some tests on the RX. I wouldnt mind buying a turbo and replacing it when I do my clutch/engine re-seal. Only problem is the price. Maybe i'll start shopping now or something. Today when I was at a light my car was alittle off-idle. It was bouncing around 500-700rpm but didnt hesitate when i revved it alittle. When the light turned green and I started to accelerate the engine didnt react until i was about 1/10 throttle.. When it finally started to go it bucked once but started to accelerate and off we went. Accleration was smooth with no hesitation and at the next light the car held steady at 1,000rpm like nothing had ever happend. Im going to pull the filter and check some things. Maybe adjust the timing alittle. -Brian

EA82T + Turbo Lag = teh SUCK!
Corky, im going to go with the cheapest parts 1st. The turbo hits boost around 2000rpm, but it just crawls to get up there. I know how turbo engines are built (with low compression) but it just irritates me. Once its boosted, i like to keep it that way. Maybe after my intercooler goes in, i can then start playing with 9, 10, 11psi. I still cant find that adapter that was on ebay, anyone remember what car it came off of. -Brian

Is there such a thing as the clatter of death?
MMO solved my valve clacking. Ive never heard of valve tap ending the life of an engine, but after a while I feel like ending my life. The noise drives me absolutly insane, and im sure im not the only one. Once the legacy got it real bad. An oil change with 10w30 didnt do it, so i added a quart of MMO and took the car for a drive. Had to get it up to about 7k on the tach in order for the tapping to stop. When I had the problem with the RX a bottle of MMO solved it (that and 2.5 quarts of oil) -Brian

Who was it that found adapters off ebay, but for a different vehicle? I saw pix of it installed and it looked like it would work. Talking with a friend in NZ who has a set of overseas injectors, ECM and other tidbits -Brian

What is a Divorced Transfer Case?
You'll need more than 4" to fit a divorced t-case. 29's should have no problem being ran by the EJ25 in your forester, and 4" of lift would be nice. Mudrat79 makes custom fabricated tube bumpers for the outbacks and foresters, would make for a slick ride. -Brian

EA82T + Turbo Lag = teh SUCK!
I dont want to be spending alot of $$$ right now, It has a straight pipe comming from the downpipe, and curves to a sidepipe which dumps right in front of my drivers side rear wheel. I think its 2.5", not sure. Im going to be getting a gutted DP from RallyRuss i believe, and that should help. As far as the intake, i have a K&N with a gutted airbox, not sure how much better a cone will be. I think the engine is just tired. -Brian

EA82T + Turbo Lag = teh SUCK!
If I rev it and try to dump the clutch, it makes others laugh. The car will just bog back down until its at boost, then climb through gears. Yes... stock :\ Got my IC in the garage... just not ready to go cutting into stuff yet. -Brian

How wide is too wide (tire question)?
No, the ones on my RX are 195/50R15's. I had a '86 Brat with 205/60's (sorry, correction there. Not 205/50's but 205/60's). Here's a picture of them on the brat. & Not sure what the backspacing is on the rims, but if yours are different you may or maynot have problems. If you do, just find out where it rubs and massage it with a hammer. You can also roll your fenders fairly easily. I didnt chose to adjust the front struts. I didnt want to change the camber or anything. -Brian

Footage of Ken & Zap in action.
Actually Eric I had an open rear diff as well. What a blast I had. Wont get to do any wheeling like that for a very long time, not unless I travel up to Washington again. -Brian

How wide is too wide (tire question)?
I put 205/50R15's on my brat without any problem. 225 sounds pretty wide and tall... i think you'll run into some problems with them. My 205's got real close to the fenders when i turned from lock to lock, and if I backed up with my tires turned all the way I would get alittle rubbing. Nothing a small sledge wouldnt fix. -Brian

Steering wheel time. *pics, WRX installed*
Sorry, there was too much B.S to read through, so i skipped a few reply's. So the WRX and the Leone adapter are the same tho right? So i dont need to worry about 7303 only 7306. And $60 isnt bad, i think i know what my next interior mod will be -Brian

New toy for my RX.
Zefy, i wish my PDA was good enough to play sound. I have a cheap Sony Clie (list for $200, bought it for $30 from someone at work who couldnt figure out how to use it). It uses Sony memory sticks, which you cannot get above 512mb (unless you get the NEW sticks that wont work in my PDA). It doesnt have sound or video playback, and i usually only use it for a calendar, alarm clock, portable gaming or keeping track of little odd's and ends (works great for calculating gas milage on long road trips). The Clarion deck has an AUX input that will make it super simple for me to connect a computer or auxiliary device to. I was thinking of getting a portable MP3 player to connect to it... but since it plays MP3's off CD that seems like a waste. So i think im going to locate a PCI GPS card for a spare computer i have, and install the computer in the car for GPS, MP3, DVD etc... (probably not DVD cause im too busy driving when im driving to watch movies). I went pawn shopping yesterday and found 2 box's, both had two 10" subs but i have no idea what brand the speakers were or if they were any good. One box said "750 watts" on the front of it, but i dont know if that was per speaker or what. Also, both box's were enclosed and I'd preffer not to have an enclosed box... The price was right however. One box was $80 and the other was $90. I might go back later and have them test the box's, i still have to locate an amp to power them. -Brian

The deck does play WMA. I have yet to try it however and i dont have any WMA downloaded. Maybe i'll rip my CD collection using WMA to test it. -Brian

Steering wheel time. *pics, WRX installed*
What hub adapter did you use? Or did it come with the steering wheel? I found a wheel for $40 but i dont want to get it if I gotta buy a $150 adapter. The wheel looks good, but doesnt look like the pic in the 1st thread. -Brian

New toy for my RX.
I can tell the difference with MP3 and CD Audio as well, but the difference is very minimal in my opinion. And 1 CD will replace an entire CD Changer. I made a CD today with every Deftone album, every tool album and every APC album. Set them in their own folders and i can randomize them all, or go back and forth between folders faster than a CD changer can grab the next CD. And If I want to listen to something in a higher quality, i always got the original CD or can burn a CD with higher quality MP3's (variable bitrate... etc) I gotta get a good EQ cause this deck needs alittle help in that area, but visually and functionally this deck gets an A++ from me. -Brian

New toy for my RX.
I have 8x6's in my front doors. They're 220watt 3way pioneers and they arent too bad. I want to put tweeters in with a cross-over to add alittle more trebble, but I would like to have a 10 or two in the rear to add just alittle more bass. My friend has a 975 watt 3 channel amp (325x3) that i might get. If i get that, i will get one nice 10 and 2 more 9x6's for the rear of the car. -Brian

I was looking at the 545MP too. It was considerably cheaper, but didnt have all the features i wanted from the 845MC. Now i gotta go get a sub and amp. -Brian

New toy for my RX.
After When my last stereo was stolen, i replaced it with a piece of crap sony deck. Well, the sony deck isnt that bad.. .its loud and has a ton of nice features. But if I so much as stop too hard the damn think skips. And forget about speedbumps, you're not listening to your favorite song until you leave the mall's parking lot. So i did some research and decided i'd get a MP3 deck that was worth its money. I found a Clarion DXZ845MC on ebay and picked it up. This thing is packed FULL of awesome features. The one I like the best is its onboard memory. The deck has 128MB Of internal RAM and you can rip songs from CD to the deck and store something like 350+ minutes of music. Completly SKIP FREE!! Here's a list of its features and better pix:http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6n6tkMsjeQn/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=020DXZ845&search=DXZ845MC And here are some pix of it in my car... with its screen saver enabled: -Brian
