I talked to Rick, and Ive also been trying to get Mudrat to come down too. But he'll most likely be swamped. Invited Andrew and Russ, but they'll need to supply a 4WD car. -Brian

Where can i park ANOTHER subaru???
You guys are real friends Everybody else here i tell say the same thing. I could really use it for parts. Im thinking of picking it up and stripping it. My 84 Wagon needs new seats and interior pieces, grill & hood. Also, the MPFI heads and intake will work perfectly for the CIS experiment. Also, if its an original california car, its more than likely rust free and straight, so there might be some Turbo parts comming avail soon. -Brian

New clutch = very scary!!
I just did a clutch in my wagon last night as well. My car actually feels sluggish, but i doubt its my clutch... prolly just the lame EA81 under the hood. Your setup with that H6, and that thing puts out alot. You should be unstoppable soon. -Brian

Wheelin in Medford! Feb 29th
I'll be driving my wagon up to see Adam, Tony and the gang. I have vacation aproved from Feb 28 through March 2nd. Since I'll be ariving in Medford Feb 28th, it would probably be best to have the trip on Sunday the 29th. Unless there are enough people with a free Monday, we could go on the 1st. Tony and Adam, do you guys know of some good places to do a full day of wheelin? -Brian

EA82 SPFI surging problem....gone!
I wish I could make it tomorrow. Got the clutch in on the wagon tonight, but will spend the day tomorrow running errands, then heading to a friends for a superbowl sunday party. Lemme know if there are any new gems in the yard. Dont forget to check the small truck section for brats. Thats where i found a fully loaded turbo brat. Had rollbar and brushguard, both of which i ended up with. -Brian

Where can i park ANOTHER subaru???
Hahaha.... Dont know why I even asked to have someone stop me, i knew it wouldnt happen. I'll go check it out tomorrow. I gotta take this engine hoist back, and the dude works there. So i'll call him up and take it for a drive. With a sticky valve, should I still do a compression check??? or will the valve mess with the numbers. -Brian

Where can i park ANOTHER subaru???
There's no winter here in Cali. I do need an engine for my CIS conversion, and this is the one i need. I'll take it for a test drive, and see if that Sticky valve is a cracked head or not. -Brian

Where can i park ANOTHER subaru???
I went to my old employer, United Rentals, to pick up an engine hoist today. Ended up getting a free rental for the weekend (SCORE!). While im in there, one of the yard boys asks me "So, you like Subaru's?" DUH!!! Anyhow, he sais he has a '84 GL Wagon that he needs to get rid of. Sais its running on only 3 cyls, and that its an auto (YUCK!). I ask if its 4WD, and he sais yes... then add's that its MPFI. So i question the year, and then he adds that its turbo'd. So... he sais he's looking to get $350 for the car. He told me it has a sticky valve, but runs good and said he'd guarantee it'd pass if i could get it running on all 4 again. Someone here has to tell me not to get this, or else i'm going to have to start parking on my lawn again. -Brian

70's-80's NOS parts update
If it runs along the side of the car, it should match. The window sticker and reciept of sale lables it with "Safari" options... so i'll call it the Safari Package Would love to have some 4 Wheel Drive decals for the side... workin on getting a dual carb setup. The rear tank, if its for a Gen1, would look beautiful on this rig. -Brian

Easiest way to replace clutch
I dont have a hoist or jack (as stated in my original post). The garage is small, but its not as bad as working outside by all means. I think i'll just go rent a hoist and pull the engine. it needs a re-seal anyhow. -Brian

Easiest way to replace clutch
Last time i did this job, i pulled the engine. It was easier that way, but now that my Sube is lifted, would it be easier to drop the tranny instead? The throwout bearing in the 84 Wagon is gone. Makes a god awful noise while the clutch is in. Doesnt have much longer, and i need to replace it soon... and still have time to drive to work the next day. I dont have access to a hoist or a tranny jack, so im trying to juggle my options. -Brian

I bought the wrong radiator...
yeah, dont worry about it. You got the right Radiator. those lines are for AT trannies. I was thinking of using the ones on my rad for the engine oil, but doubt our pumps would be strong enough to move oil in and out of there. Anyhow, with mine, i have a hose that just connects both outlets, just so crap doesnt get up in there and ruin it. -Brian

70's-80's NOS parts update
I need some 4WD Decals for the Gen1, and the FSM. I know you told me not to reply, but those decals would really set off the "safari" package that my Gen1 has. -Brian

Marvel Mystery Oil
TheSubaruJunkie replied to ejlain's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSeafoam is great for gas and throttle body, but I live by MMO. Nothing makes my car run better than choking it to death a few times with MMO. Maybe because my car is 20 years old, and carburated. I usually run with 1qt in the crank, but since the car leaks so much oil, it probably doesnt stay in for long. If you want to use it, just add 1qt to your crank after an oil change. Then just top the oil off with regular 10/30 or 20/50, whichever you use. If you are going to use it in the gas, just add it to the tank as specified. I usually put a quart in with a 10gal fill up every other month or so. Seafoam seems alittle more harsh on the engine than a good shot of MMO. -Brian

Adding a cat to a car that never had one.
I havent even started to work on the car. Its run twice since i brought it home, once to move it out of the garage, and once to move it back in. At the moment, im working on getting my '84 to pass smog. That needs an entire exhaust, if not more work. After thats said and done, i'll start working on the '78. Right now, there is so much oil everywhere, i cant tell which is new, and which is old. I will take the car to the carwash and degrease the engine then start to work on it. -Brian

Alaskan subaru organization ideas and logo discussion
You guys got 5 rigs? Find 5 members, have them line their cars up, on each hood put 1 letter All 5 cars can spell out SCARE. Just an idea.... -Brian

Alaskans?
Yeah, the gang activity is almost nothing compared to any other city. The biggest problem is homeless alcoholic's, and there are alot of them. Most the crime and alcoholics are confined to certain area's of Anchorage. Downtown of course, Fairview, Moutainview & even now the Muldoon area is starting to get bad. -Brian

Adding a cat to a car that never had one.
Yeah, i already plan on giving it a tuneup and having it pre-tested. believe me, the engine needs ALOT of work to get it cleaned up, and i know for sure right now it will not pass. But i got new PCV stuff for it, and will end up replacing the cap, rotor, coil, plugs and wires before its tested. Im also going to need to get the exhaust replaced, or patched. The door does have the sticker, so proof isnt going to be hard. I just figured, since it needs exhaust work anyhow, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a Cat put in, just to be on the safe side. We'll get it tested 1st, then see what happens. -Brian

Adding a cat to a car that never had one.
The state wont make me install one, cause it came w/out one. Im just wondering if it will help my headache of getting it to pass. -Brian

Adding a cat to a car that never had one.
My '78 Wagon came from the factory, with no Catlytic Converter. Im in the process of restoring it, and one of the largest hurdles is the California emissions standards. Im affraid it might not pass. If I replace the exhaust and have them put in a generic catalytic converter... will that help to reduce emissions? Or would it be best to just have a new exhuast made without one? -Brian

Lsd
What are you going to use a front LSD for? The car doesnt look like it see's much off-road, and its not exactly a drag racer. Power to 1 tire should be fine, and for the amount of money your talking about spending, its not worth it. Rear LSD's are cheaper (not by much) and alot easier. Start with that, then work your way up. Just a suggestion -Brian

Alaskans?
I would much rather live in the Valley than Fairbanks. THe problem with Fairbanks is its surrounded by mountains, and there's like 2 roads out of Fairbanks. Ontop of that, it takes 5 hours just to make it anywhere civilized. The Valley (I'm assuming the Mat-Su Valley) is only 1/2 hour from Anchorage, and there's actually ALOT of cool stuff to do in the Valley that cant be done in Anchorage. Anchorage is nice cause its about as Modern as Alaska will ever get. Doesnt hold a candle to any big city's like New York or L.A. Be prepared for a huge culture shock. ALot of things your accustomed to in the lower 48, are alot harder to come by in Alaska. Leaving is the 1st thing that comes to mind. -Brian

Knock knock knockin on Billy C's door?
Billy. Its good hearing from you again. I am willing to travel to GA to get my hands on some of your fleet. I just aquired another subaru... this one is a Gen1, '78 Wagon. It needs to be restored, and im sure there's some parts in those box's I could use. Time frame... thats never a easy thing to figure out. I elect Shawn and Mick to handle the distrobution of the Box's. Not only are they the most reliable to do such a thing, but they are also the 2 admin's, and they will make sure the proceeds goto better the USMB. A proposal like this is just the thing the USMB needs to get on its feet and to become a real, well known non-profit org. Anything I can do to help, I will... just let me know. -Brian

My roomate had a '89 GL10 FT4WD 5spd with center diff lock, and open rear end. But im pretty sure the LSD was snagged by a prev owner or the shop guy we bought the car from. And also, from what I know... no USMB member has Front LSD unless they're running the divorced T-Case with external Front Diff. -Brian
