  1. Yeah, the gang activity is almost nothing compared to any other city. The biggest problem is homeless alcoholic's, and there are alot of them. Most the crime and alcoholics are confined to certain area's of Anchorage. Downtown of course, Fairview, Moutainview & even now the Muldoon area is starting to get bad. -Brian
  2. Yeah, i already plan on giving it a tuneup and having it pre-tested. believe me, the engine needs ALOT of work to get it cleaned up, and i know for sure right now it will not pass. But i got new PCV stuff for it, and will end up replacing the cap, rotor, coil, plugs and wires before its tested. Im also going to need to get the exhaust replaced, or patched. The door does have the sticker, so proof isnt going to be hard. I just figured, since it needs exhaust work anyhow, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a Cat put in, just to be on the safe side. We'll get it tested 1st, then see what happens. -Brian
  3. The state wont make me install one, cause it came w/out one. Im just wondering if it will help my headache of getting it to pass. -Brian
  4. My '78 Wagon came from the factory, with no Catlytic Converter. Im in the process of restoring it, and one of the largest hurdles is the California emissions standards. Im affraid it might not pass. If I replace the exhaust and have them put in a generic catalytic converter... will that help to reduce emissions? Or would it be best to just have a new exhuast made without one? -Brian
  5. What are you going to use a front LSD for? The car doesnt look like it see's much off-road, and its not exactly a drag racer. Power to 1 tire should be fine, and for the amount of money your talking about spending, its not worth it. Rear LSD's are cheaper (not by much) and alot easier. Start with that, then work your way up. Just a suggestion -Brian
  6. I would much rather live in the Valley than Fairbanks. THe problem with Fairbanks is its surrounded by mountains, and there's like 2 roads out of Fairbanks. Ontop of that, it takes 5 hours just to make it anywhere civilized. The Valley (I'm assuming the Mat-Su Valley) is only 1/2 hour from Anchorage, and there's actually ALOT of cool stuff to do in the Valley that cant be done in Anchorage. Anchorage is nice cause its about as Modern as Alaska will ever get. Doesnt hold a candle to any big city's like New York or L.A. Be prepared for a huge culture shock. ALot of things your accustomed to in the lower 48, are alot harder to come by in Alaska. Leaving is the 1st thing that comes to mind. -Brian
  7. Billy. Its good hearing from you again. I am willing to travel to GA to get my hands on some of your fleet. I just aquired another subaru... this one is a Gen1, '78 Wagon. It needs to be restored, and im sure there's some parts in those box's I could use. Time frame... thats never a easy thing to figure out. I elect Shawn and Mick to handle the distrobution of the Box's. Not only are they the most reliable to do such a thing, but they are also the 2 admin's, and they will make sure the proceeds goto better the USMB. A proposal like this is just the thing the USMB needs to get on its feet and to become a real, well known non-profit org. Anything I can do to help, I will... just let me know. -Brian
  8. My roomate had a '89 GL10 FT4WD 5spd with center diff lock, and open rear end. But im pretty sure the LSD was snagged by a prev owner or the shop guy we bought the car from. And also, from what I know... no USMB member has Front LSD unless they're running the divorced T-Case with external Front Diff. -Brian
  9. To install the fonts, find your "font" folder which is located inside the "Control Panel". Just copy the .ttf files to that folder, and it should show you a window that sais "installing font" After that, the programs should recognize the fonts. If not, reset the computer and then it will. -Brian
  10. D'OH!!! I forgot this year was leap year. Got my vacation aproved, but need to add Feb 29th into the mix. -Brian
  11. I used to run a Subaru off-road club when i lived in Alaska. It was called ORSA (off-road Subaru's of Alaska). It never went anywhere except for a webpage. The color logo looks great. -Brian
  12. Thanks Dave... and goodluck. For all those who dont know... Mendo Dave is the one who hooked me up. His friend is the one who had this car, and from what I can gather he's the 2nd owner... 1st owner being a relative of his. Dave also was kind enough to store the car at his house for the past 3 months until I could make room for it here. Thank Peter again for me, and let him know the next time he see's this car, it will look like it just rolled off the factory line.... (hopefully). -Brian
  13. I like that logo as well, but i think it resembles the HP logo too much with the way that mountain is. Great artwork. -Brian
  14. I think I spent about $20 for fuel, and also got some air freshener's... other than that, the car was free. Just had to drive it home. -Brian
  15. Paul. Tony is located in Southern Oregon. I'll be visiting him soon to pickup my new front bumper. he's the one who built my rack as well. http://twb.usmb.net to see his line of accessories -Brian
  16. Tony, did you replicate the ones you have on your turbo wagon??? Or did you just send them to him. They look exactly like yours. Cant wait to get mine attatched to the front of the Wagon. -Brian

  23. Key Points to Alaska: 1) Hardly any people. Keeps the Stupidity factor down. 2) the place is HUGE!! There's always someplace to go to hide, if your being followed or tracked. 3) There are no billboards. They are banned from Alaska, and should be banned from every other state as well. 4) Its beautiful. You wont find another place in the US like it. 5) Fishing and Hunting cant be beat. 6) Once your a citizen, the state pays you aprox $1500 a year in PFD. Downsides: 1) Its a 4 day drive to any other state in the US 2) Alcoholism is a HUGE factor. 3) Cost of living is ALOT higher. The $.99 taco at taco bell here, is $1.39 in Alaska... and the $.39 Taco from Del Taco here, is... well, there are no Del Taco's in Alaska. Or Jack in the Box, or Carls Jr. 4) Daylight/night time. Your head will get screwed up in the 1st few years with the daylight and night cycles of summer/winter. 5) Speaking of Summer/Winter... those are the only 2 seasons Alaska has. Unless you want to count 2 or 3 stages of Winter, and 1 Stage of summer. 6) and last but not least.... ITS FRIKKEN COLD!!! Expect -20 with -40 windchills between December to Febuary. That's about it. Any other questions? -Brian
  24. I dont drink, but thanks for the offer. Im always down to kick it tho. -Brian
  25. What does the pinion gear do? And how would i know if it was broken? The tranny fluid looked real creamy. I will have to drain it and replace it. I have a lead on a Gen1 D/R Tranny, and the bellhousing that will mate it to a EA81. Not sure if I wanna swap all that in, or keep it stock... but its a possiblilty -Brian
