  1. yeah, thats the same mud that is causing problems with my carb. -Brian
  2. Im thinking of cutting that section of the hood out and putting my snorkel there. Or just put another hood on -Brian
  3. Good idea Miles... i bet you could also have your own emoticon there too huh? I'll register later for it and give a shout out to the rebels on the east side. -Brian
  4. Tune up history: Less than 6 months ago the car got a new coil, wires, plug's, cap and rotor. 2 months ago it got a new cap and rotor again cause it was fouled REAL bad on a off-road trip. Fuel filters were both replaced when i bought the car over a year ago. I replaced the rear filter last night before i took it for a test drive, i have a new front filter and will put that on tomorrow. Ive done the check for a vacuum leak with carb cleaner, and it didnt locate one. Last night while cleaning the carburator (yes, outside and inside) i did the choke trick where you rev the car and cut its air supply, making it stutter and backfire. Thats when the problem got 1000x worse. So i believe its working the gunk through the jet's, and maybe got it stuck more. I havent had a chance to look down the carb... it was too dark last night. The missfire problem is alot like the problem i had when i replaced the coil. Maybe i'll check the wires, and put this other set of 8mm wires i have on the car. Also found one of those disty boots from a toyota, so i'll check the disty cap before i install it. Anyone have a price quote on a 2BBL HItachi rebuild kit? -Brian
  5. Hey MM (and everybody else on a dialup). You can .zip all your pictures up into 1 zip file, and just upload that .zip file. The gallery will automaticly unzip them and put them in the album. -Brian
  6. Yup, combo Bumper/Brushguard go next. Im having Tony (Soobme) make it for me, and ive been comming up with custom designs and dimensions for him. -Brian
  7. Yeah, i could see how the float would get clogged. You should see my engine compartment... there was so much mud, the air filter wieghed like 5lbs heh I guess i'll have to tear the carb off the car and see if I cant do a quick fix to get it running good again. Gotta have it ready for Tahoe on Tuesday. -Brian
  8. Well... got the fender and headlight assembly mounted. It almost looks as good as new, except for the huge wrinkle in the hood. Pix! and -Brian
  9. 1984 GL Wagon, EA81 2bbl hitachi. Before, the car would just die and cut out under heavy load... while driving uphill or quickly accelerating from a stop. I noticed the car was lacking alot of power. I sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner in the carb cause the air filter was CAKED with mud, the filter box was as well, and the outside of the carb is also caked with mud. I did the trick where you spray carb cleaner into the carb and make it barely idle... also made it suffocate and brought it back to life. Now after I did that, the car runs like crap. It will run okay on all 4 cyl's if i keep my rev's down or feather the throttle. If I try to floor it the car starts to missfire REAL bad. It also stalls out and dies and refuses to start. Im almost positive its the carb. Seems like it stalls or runs like crap whenever the secondary opens up. Should I rebuild the carb? or does anyone think it can be fixed without removing the carb? -Brian
  10. Its done it on every subaru ive owned. -Brian
  11. I have to rent all my gear. Kirkwood is not as cheap as donner. Right now, all 4 of us (my 2 friends, Jared and I) will all be broke. Anybody else??? -Brian
  12. Yeah, slow and fast work fine. But intermittent is sometimes slow, and sometimes the switch wont turn them off. I'll look through my FSM for that control unit, and try to put the one from my wagon in the brat to see if thats the culprit. -Brian
  13. Im so stupid when it comes to electricity. I can wire basic lights and the like... but when it comes to continuity and testing equipment im dump as silk. -Brian
  14. I try to stay away from the rubicon. There are too many azzholes up there. Last time I was up there, they all pointed and laughed when they saw a lifted subaru. I dont need to go through that in order to enjoy myself. I frequent Kyburz. There are ALOT of great trails up there for stock and lifted sube's. We're planning on going up there to board next tuesday. Im also planning on driving up to N.Tahoe to play in the snow thursday. -Brian
  15. Yup, still got them. take them home with you and bring me some 13" Wagon wheels (ea81) There is a post in the general forum. Take a look and respond. Its changed to Jan 6th, tuesday. -Brian
  16. Sweet, thats the package i used to do mine. Just did a complete re-install of the software onto a new hard drive, but been too lazy to connect my capture card. Cant wait to see the full length. -Brian
  17. Tuesday Jan 6th im going to be taking Rooinater to Tahoe for a day of snowboarding. All is welcome to join! I know there are a few of us in this area, and even some out of the area that want to go (StormTrooper??) Not sure where to go yet, probably whichever is the cheapest. Was looking into Donner Ski Ranch cause its a $10 day, and since i have to rent all my gear im trying to fly cheap. But might spoil ourselfs by going somewhere better. Reply here. We will all try to meet in Sac around 8am to be in Tahoe by 10, or 10:30. -Brian
  18. Looks good, what software are you using to edit your video? -Brian
  19. Yeah, in that aspect your right. I would love to have a grease insert and re-grease and re-seal the bearings every other month. You would still have to pull the rotor and the CV through the hub to replace both seals... but its definatly less time consuming than pressing (or pounding, depends on how you do it) new bearings into the hub. And i do stand corrected. Properly installed bearings, in the perfect driving conditions should never fail. Just look at the Subaru rear wheel bearings, ive never replaced a single one. -Brian
  20. With the seals on the hub, putting more grease in contaminated grease, would only trab bad grease mixed with good. That and blow the seals out, making the bearings prone to further damage. When i was working at United Rentals, our parts room had a TON of different sized grease nippes, or zirts, or whatever they're called. Im sure if you found one with a pretty small thread insert, you could drill a small hole without jepordizing the hub itself. I think if there was one installed, the best way to re-grease the bearings would be to remove the hub and outter seal, regrease pushing all the old contaminated grease out, and then re-installing new seals. -Brian
  21. Dont forget BOARDING IN TAHOE on Jan 7th I got 2 co-workers that wanna go too. Best of luck with the trip, hope everything works out. See you in a couple weeks. -Brian
  22. Mine was done on a EA81. Would imagine a higher CR would compliment the better spark. Not willing to pull my heads just yet to have them shaved tho. -Brian
  23. At the moment, i dont believe Subaru bearings need to be re-greased. If properly greased and sealed upon initial install, you should have no reason to regrease until they fail and need to be replaced. -Brian
  24. Well, if all 4 plugs are getting spark, then its probably the plugs. Unless the heads are cracked or the gaskets are bad. If thats the case, there will be no compression, and the fuel will not ignite. -Brian
