  1. Depends on what you mean by affordable? Are we talking under a hundred bucks? Or maybe upwards of $300-$500? -Brian
  2. Mendo... yeah, I'll prolly be leaving either Monday night or Tuesday morning, so i should be at the show thursday night, friday mornin. Not sure really what the plan is, i just went for all the vacation time i could get Me and Jibs are plannin on headin up together and maybe stopping along the way to do some wheelin or just take our time. Dont know which direction we're taking yet either... should start to plan this all out. -Brian
  3. Dave, it will be great to see you again. I got a new toy to show off... we'll have to compete -Brian
  4. Zap, that white showing around the edge is light messing with the camera. There is no white showing, nor any grey primer. Its completly painted over with 3 or 4 coats of red. The clear coat wasnt completly dried, and the way the spray was.... it caught the light and makes it look like there is white showing. If worse comes to worse, i'll goto kragen and get some 14" beauty rings to hide it -Brian
  5. Not even a Brat can beat a DeLorean. Those are some of the coolest cars around. -Brian
  6. Your right zap... doesnt really belong in O/R other than the fact that it will be mounted to my wheeler. I posted here, cause all my other rim discussion is in this forum, and figured people who were following my previous progress would see it alittle easier in here. Not sure i follow on the outer rings?? -Brian
  7. Uhm... Pix show blue tape... so, yeah... i used blue masking tape. Rick, $20 a tire for powdercoating... or $6 a can for the paint? I'll save $50-$60 and do it myself. I dont have alot of money for this project, already overpaid for the rims. I think this job will do just as good. Maybe if it was a restored classic i'd drop $80 for powdercoating, but i'll be happy with this. I went and checked the rims after leaving them sit all night. And like i said, they look a thousand times better. Took a couple shots, you can definatly see a difference -Brian
  8. Ive been applying coats of clear over the red/black to help it cure and keep it from chipping in the future. Should also help keep the paint from fading as well. Im on my 6th coat of clear, and the rims are looking 200x better. I'll have some new pix sooner or later. -Brian
  9. Find a friend with paypal and buy that kit off ebay then. -Brian
  10. So spent the weekend prepping my rims. My tires should be here next week (if tirerack hurrys up) and I wanna make sure the rims are ready for mounting. Took the rims and cleaned them up. Used foaming engine degreaser and a scrub pad. After all 4 were clean, I put about 2 good coats of primer ontop of them. Hope thats enough... Let the primer dry, and went at it with the gloss black. I put 3 coats of black on, trying to only get it on the center of the rim. I left the black on all night, figured it would dry overnight and be ready for masking this morning. So woke up, went out... and started masking all the rims. I just layed masking tape over the rim strip by strip, making sure the edge was good and secure... then ran a razor blade over the crease in the rim, and pealed the excess off. I was able to find the Candyapply red, Duplicolor T-208 that MikeW suggested, and went ahead and applied coat after coat until you could no longer see primer or any black overspray. I think i got 4 or 5 coats of red on there. After the red went on, and proceeded to remove the masking tape. I guess overnight wasnt long enough, cause the masking tape completely ruined the finish on the gloss black You can see lines were the tape was layed, and now im not sure what im gonna do to repair that. ARGHHH!! But oh well, still looks alot better than they did before. I put a heavy coat of clear on top of them. I think i'll put another coat or two of clear on them before they are completly finished. IM sure once they have some MT's mounted to them, and on the hatch... they will be covered with mud and no one will notice the bad finish on the black. -Brian
  11. Thats cheaper than what I paid for my rims... and mine were 20yrs old. But, they arent generic 8 spoke rims. I cant stand those things Mine almost look new, now that I painted them. -Brian
  12. I think the double A arm idea is way cooler than just boltind a subaru body to a jeep chassi. Thats almost like cheating whereas the double A arm is more like engineering. Let us know when you have it done, this is something I'd like to see. -Brian
  13. Pick up the yellow pages dude, and search for VW. VW's ARE popular enough to have their own tuning shop. Just gotta locate one. Call every VW parts house in the book until you find one that carry's a conversion kit for a Weber DGV series carburator. Shouldnt be hard to find one. -Brian
  14. Here... since im so helpful: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59657 If you want cheap 14" rims, look for steels from a Datsun pickup, Dodge D50, CHevy Luv, Mitsubishi Mighty max. Those all came factory with 6 lug 14" rims. Not sure which models came with 14x6 or what offset. That kinda info you'll need to find yourself. Search google for other forums. There's a pretty indepth Chevy Luv forum that I used to score my rims off of. I also found a Datsun p/u forum but didnt stay long. Im sure all those guys have the answers you need. Good Luck, -Brian
  15. Did you even search? It took me WEEKS to find my rims. I have a thread up on this very same forum... its prolly on page 2 or 3 by now, i suggest you read it and it should help you. -Brian
  16. here's what your lookin for: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Weber-MANUAL-CHOKE-kit-32-36-DF-DGV-DGEV-DGAV-dgas-av_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33552QQihZ019QQitemZ8074495067QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V -Brian
  17. Uber... did you even read this post? I seriously doubt he's gonna do a feiro project. Dude is gonna do a 600hp EJ motor and most likely a full custom frame. Would like to know where he's at on this project. We havent seen him on the board in quite some time. -Brian
  18. He's right about the 83 heads. Your motor being a '80 is a non hydro lifter with smaller valves. You'll know once you pull the heads what your in for. Sounds like an awesome hobby, you running a weber on the engine or stock intake/carb? -Brian
  19. It was an option for any EA82 really. You'll usually find them on GL10's with full time 4WD and a locking center diff. If that touring wagon was a GL, non turbo with dual range 4WD then I would say dont waste your time. -Brian
  20. I think you need to bring the 2nd tone up to above the trim line. -Brian
  21. D, find a 4wd one already. -Brian p.s. find something thats '82 and newer.... they will have 1800cc and dual range. Just ask JB how bad it sucks to wheel with single range
  22. Call les schwab. call big O tire. call just tires. Call any tire place and ask them... im sure they can answer your question. Chances are, your not gonna be able to find non-DOT tires from any local tire house anyways, your probably going to be forced to order them direct or from a dealer out of state/country. Then yeah, your asking in the wrong forum. -Brian
