  1. Spent some time in the yards on Sunday. It's a base Legacy Sedan. He hit a deer - hood, headlights, bumper, grill, radiator, AC condenser, fans and timing belt covers all needed. We pulled the radiator support. I pulled all the mechanical parts and a good hood. Still hunting headlights and the supports. He may have to go to ebay or www.car-part.com. So it goes. It will be back on the road.
  2. Nope, would need to swap everything forward of the doors. Outback has a higher hood line at the front. Swap Hood, Bumper, Grill and Headlights. All could be done but at a costs. Love those 95-99 Subaru Legacy/Outback. Like Legos.
  3. I'm helping a friend who hit a deer put their 2008 Legacy Sedan back on the road. Headlights are listed as 2008 - 2009 Only. They have a plastic mount that the headlight attaches to. The 2005 has what looks like the same headlight but a metal support. Of course the bumper cover mounts are different. They are too new for me, but I was thinking if I swapped out the complete bumper, headlights, mounts the 2005 may work on t he 2008. Anyone confirm? Thanks, Larry
  4. There are connectors on each side of the rear hatch behind the side panels. You need to get the hatch open to remove the side panels unless you want to destroy them. A local yard that you can go into is a great resource to pull the panels and see how everything goes together. Your meter can lie to you. Check out LOADpro. Every circuit has: Load Ground Power As said before get the diagrams and work through them.
  5. Where is your son? Someone close may be able to help. Many Bases also have Auto Hobby Shops. Some better than others.
  6. Brothers 99 Legacy with a 2.2 installed is doing the same thing. No CEL. Runs fine otherwise. Strange.
  7. Nice. You could alway wire power throught the clutch switch. If you open it, it will cut the CC.
  8. Every circuit has a Load, gound and Power. Find the Load Find Ground Find Power Sounds like a circuit issue to me. Check out Loadpro if you like.
  9. Did they use Subaru axles? If not, that is a known problem with aftermarket axlex/halfshafts. I've rebuilt may Subaru halfshafts with new boots, cleaning and greasing the CV joints.
  10. Sounded like it was not turning over in my quick reads. I've also had starters drawing so much voltage it pulls voltage down for other systems to work properly.
  11. Turn it over by hand. 22mm nut on the fromt of the crank. The side timing covers can come of pretty easy. The center section is a bit of work, but you can pull the crank sensor and see the mark on the tooth. Have you replaced the starter or starter contacts?
  12. Sounds like the motor to me. Pretty easy to swap it out and see if that fixes it.

  14. There is a 2 pin blue connector on the back of the Dash. I believe that is the speedo connection. I'd check to see if you have it on the gauge cluster and then use the wiring manual to find the best place to connect you VSS to it.
  15. If it blinks 16 times, you have a code in the Trans computer. You can search the USMB for the access steps to get the code. Most Transmission shops will pull the code for you for free, if you ask them to take a look at the trans.
  16. Fuel Temp sensor is on the Fuel Pump bracket, but it is not part of the fuel pump. It's about an 1" long and 3/8" dia.
  17. A little stored energy in the driveline. I put my parking brake on when I park my 2000 Impreza OBS.
  18. There are 2 small coolant lines that go to the throttle body. Check those. Your low idle could be due to a failed coolant temp sensor. On top of the block in the crossover manifold for the coolant. Passenger side under the intake on the back side.
  19. I'd first remove the intake tube and clean the throttle plate and intake. There is a adjustmet screw on the drivers side of the linkage. Make sure the cable has some free play. I'd recheck then.
  20. We bought an 06 Forester from a Subaru Mechanic which had a rattle. He said it was internal to the muffler and a common fault. I got a muffler out of the yard and it's been fine for the last 5 years. www.car-part.com is a good source. Get one from a location out of the rust belt!
