  1. Hey guys, well i didnt get synthetic ATF this time around, just want to try the normal dexron III ATF, its Motomaster fluid, think it will be alright? i got 4L for $10CDN sound alright? Im going to do the fluid change later today.
  2. i think ill this stuff in that case then Always wanted stawberrie juice lubing the tranny
  3. well i need to stop by a auto place and see how much syth ATF cost, how many quarts do i need? for 1 drain?
  4. ok, so go to gear 1 wait 10 seconds 2 repeat 3 etc. What if i just tried one oil drain, then did another drain 1 month from now? Is that ok?
  5. thanks for the reply, so how do i dump these hoses you speak of, where are they? Can i just turn on the engine, while the drain plug is out and it should cycle out the oil or does that kill the pump?
  6. I'm going to change the fluid for the tranny, by just draining the pan, and refilling through the marker tube. Now, even though this isn't a full flush, can i still use synthetic ATF? I just want to try synthetic oil, and there are NOO LEAKS at ALL from the tranny, been pressure tested and everything, but what i found out is, lets say if i drive the car from a cold start and accelerate in snow, its totally fwd, u sit there all day spinning wheels. Drive for MORE then 40 mins, and then the AWD works:eek: still a tiny delay, but it kicks in fairly smooth. Sound promising to try just a simple tranny oil change? And the tranny was being run overfilled for about 1,000KM i mean WAY overfilled, but still NO LEAKS, so maybe there is air in the fluid?, i dont know. Thanks!
  7. Ya, they didn't make these cars to have DVD players, or GPS, or other special features(those would have been nice but oh well, i know about the tribeca though), all they wanted to make were reliable cars, that were well balanced, and have a strong simple yet effective AWD system
  8. Yes please lol! Oh and i remember one time, my dad told me he was driving on a combo of ice, snow, slush etc on a -20C day like 5F i think? And if the abs didn't kick in, his steering would have locked and would have hit a tree, but luckily he was still able to steer, and the abs acted like a traction control on his end, pretty astonishign considering the tires were Cheapo all seaons.
  9. Well on my 93 when u pulse the brakes manually momentarily it just disables abs, thats a quick way to shut it off.
  10. From what i remember there is a screw behidn the cruise button and defroster, and u need to remove the radio tray(screw inside the bottom box, its a screw in a tight difficult angle) then remove the 2 screws beside the cup holder, and the trim comes out? then there are a few more screws around the climate control, then u need to unplgu the vents, then remove the two screws above, but i chickened out, so never remvoed all those screws and just let subaru do it for me
  11. i got that bulb changed at subaru, i think they did all the bulbs, shifter etc for $100 and they did a great job, and could not even notice they touched anything.
  12. What i do in the winter to prevent the squeaks is go get a car wash, seems to clear out all the salt, actually i haven't noticed any actually, but if u think its snow related, a car wash is a good idea, every few weeks.
  13. dang, that sucks, well atleast they told u how much they are charging. Here where i am the dealer is actually OWNED by subaru Canada not a franchise thing. Thats why i drvie 30km for any service even a oil change. The shop here does great jobs with anything and RIGHT away knows exactly what is wrong(when something does go wrong, pretty rare) And they treat me real good, i pay top buck but its worth it, one time when i had to get my wiper assembly replaced they ordered the wrong one, and they gave me a BRAND NEW 2007 subaru forester to rent for 1 month my mom loved that car, definitly nice to drive a new vehicle, and it was free of charge and i could not see them fitting that into the repair price of 500(got all the interior lights replaced ALL OF them, shifter, everything, wiper assembly, oil changed for everything, and i think the brakes as well). As a rental loaded cost 200 for 1 week.
  14. I think this shop is full of CRAP, i would get out of there ASAP, sounds like this is NOT realated to the ECM in any way at all. And they won't confirm the price so you should not have to pay anything, except the cost of inspecting the issue. Can be a issue with wiring more or less, but you might as well try the new ECM. But the shop sounds like they will charge you more then u would want to spend.
  15. Yes, they are more likely, but driving with 4 tires that are not 100 percent the same meaning wear, size, PSI in the tire, this can damage the clutch as i one clutch spins at a different rate, and they tend to ware and overheat, and can possibly melt, then u need to remove the rear housing and/or replace the components, or get the newer updated rear housing with all the components. But a better place to start now is getting new tires. But to test the transfer case try inserting the FWD fuse and see if the binding disappears, then a good step front there is to get a transmission fluid change several times, or get a tranny flush. Although what i said is related if u have a automatic transmission, if its a manual well, then thats not good. Then most likely the, im not expierenced with the manual system, so if it is manual please state.
  16. well she may be driving, the way my mom does, she goes on and off the brakes on slipperery conditions, even though the abs does that job for you, and it then shuts off the abs, then u need to shut off the vehicle and turn it back on. But if it stuck in the on posistion it will not reset. However it can also be indicating ur battery is low when the abs light is on. So your alternator might be dieing or shot. After u fix the relay issue, if the light is still on. Go to ur local mechanic that you know well, or preferably go to subaru and get the code read. There are still possibilities of other failures. Good luck.
  17. from what i remember it had a cover, i poped it off ,then pulled out the relay, sprayed it down, sprayed everything in that box, and sprayed all the connectors for the plugs. And it is a fairly easy job, the plugs are sometime difficult to get out,but they will come out, and very safe, the contact cleaner will not damage anything.
  18. actually i forgot to mension i took out the relay and soaked it with contact cleaner, and cleaned all the connectors, and so far this winter, the abs relay did not get stuck, and the abs was well used trust me .
  19. really! a NEW treibeca wow, imagine what it will have the engine might have 300 HP and the front end and rear will probably be SO HOT and were all goign to go crazy over it, i can see it now
  20. I remember with my grandfathers mercedes ML320 when we ran regular octane it wouldn't always shift, or it would shift jerky. Then we ran high octane, and it shifted normally. What was found was a sensor which controls the car i guess, and goes into a limp mode per say when running lower octane fuels. Maybe the outback is the same way.
