  1. Also, if it hasn't been removed there will be a small metal bracket that sort of holds the starter in place. Sometimes you can twist the starter to get it out. Other times you'll have to move the bracket. But to answer your question there are two. A 14mm headed nut and bolt that also doubles as the trans to engine bolt(top of the starter) and a 17mm headed nut on the underside of the starter.(might even be a 14mm if it's been changed out before.)
  2. The smaller pics are good for the idea of a collage. Bigger pics can be taken for alot of the stills.
  3. Here's a folder with some shots of many different cars. Calendar pics
  4. Well Matt, the local LS diagnosed my rear vibration in my Suburban as a pair of bent wheels. I was about due for tires so I went ahead and got wheels and tires(My 4th set in a year from them for different vehicles). Wheels and tires look great and the vibration still exsists. So go figure where Ed's comments come from :brolleye: :temper:
  5. Sweet. Looks good. Does it handle the rough stuff better than the old 3dr? Oh yeah, BTW, nice wheels!
  6. Cool, glad to see it made it to the road. Looks good too. How'd the drivabilty turn out? Any issues come up?
  7. Well, that bites on all accounts. Does Brian have the part to repair his Brat? I might have a knuckle here. I know I do but it may need bearings.
  8. The hollow end is the access hole for the retaining bolt.
  9. What are they gonna do when the truck/suv class grows by two more Brats? I know two guys that will be running Brats next year that didn't last year. Now that will be a BRAT problem! :-\ :boohoo: I'm sorry but to hear someone whining about Brat's having an advantage over an overpowered SUV is somewhat funny. I know there is more to it but that just seems to stand out more than anything else. There needs to be a compromise of sorts but I don't think we need to lose ground either. I think the open class will be the next step for the drivers who consistantly win or place 3rd or higher. For competition sake anyway. But let 'em master their class first before booting them to the next level.
  10. Good thought process but something to ponder... It is a pain to change a stub or axle. However, how much bigger pain would it be to change diffs on the trail? Things break, sometimes often, I personally carry spare stubs just in case. That was the only thing I broke on the Rubicon. We had about 7 spare stubs with us plus an entire diff(welded of course). The nice thing about breakable parts is that we can usually just replace the broken part and be on our way. As we find and modify stronger parts our breakage will become more severe as well. At what point does it become a wash? We also exploded a welded diff. Literally blew up the floating gears. A direct result of more power and too much traction. Fortunately we were able to weld the side gears directly to the case(and it held). In closing, don't give up the research, but don't be too agressive with the little beasts we love.
  11. That's the same size I have on my '92 Legacy Touring Wagon. They are about a half size too big. I had no problem in our dose of 6" of snow.
  12. Nice job. Did you pull that carb off of a Vega or a Monza? Alot of machine work but it looks good. One question though. Why did you turn your dipstick around?
  13. Excellent. I laughed so hard when you told me the story. I was still laughing when I told the missus. The roads look cool too.
  14. The best all-round all-season tire in My opinion is from Les Schwab. It is the Toyo Spectrum touring radial. They are an excellent rain tire. They perform well in all weather extremes as well. Your tire size s/b 195/60R15. Here's a link to the tire and their website. Link
  15. The first thing that comes to mind is the actual point system that decides class. ie., engine displacement, AWD/4WD, turbo, non turbo, tires and such. I know for a fact that some of the unnamed protestors are not running in their correct classes. I understand the complaint about a station wagon running in truck/suv. However, the VIN plate is the registration designator. Any changes made will definitely take away from the class. But, the competition will remain. I sure would like to go to one of these meetings. Maybe the decision meeting will be delayed to Jan. as I would have a new allotment of vacation to use. I am waiting to see what the postings will be on ORG site to make a complete statement.
  16. Try starting it with the gas cap off. It may be vapor locking. There have been quite a few instances of this lately. Another thought. I see you have an '87 carbed engine. I always thought they went to SPFI in '87 and eliminated the carb engine. You say you just got the car, right? Did the previous owner change the motor or anything that they disclosed? Just soem thought's. I'll think more about it at work tonight.
  17. I think the next time you see the chihuahua you should go run over the owner. The dog is a roamer. They always have been. People have made them stationary. When people let their animals roam unattended it does a lot of harm to neighborhoods and the animals. W had a problem with cats but I think natural selection took care of that(Coyotes or Wolves, yes, reports of wolf hybrids being released by a breeder a number of years ago) But the dogs are bigger and get much more attenton. Maybe if we euthenize(sp?) an owner or two the rest of the world might just get the idea. And yes, I have dogs and cats. I have always had pets/friends since I was very young.
  18. I have mine off the Brat. It is noticable on road as well as off road. The benefit to not having it is that the front suspension will work independantly. With the sway bar connected the front will fight itself to keep the front wheels even.
  19. I would say that you should replace that pilot bearing as well as the throw out bearing.
  20. Rick, I would let it be. It will work fine as it is now.The combination of PP, disc and throwout bearing isn't that tough really. The XT6 flywheel is lighter by about 4lbs than an EA82. The critical measurement is the depth of the flywheel. It can be cut into any of the flywheels. I used the XT6 flywheel and presuure plate. The XT6 throw out bearing is the same as the EA82. The disc is for the 5sp. I used a new clutch cable. I would try the new(used) one we just put in for a while and test things out with it. It will work fine as that is the same set up most of the guys run. Ken
  21. Yes, 1 tree per pass. They are available on a first come basis. There is not a quantity limit either. So, if you want one you should do so as they will run out. It's just a matter of when.
  22. They are $10.00 ea. You can get them at the ranger station. I believe you have one at Lynnwood or Everett. Snohomish county Ranger district.
  23. The EA81 turbo crossover is indeed the same as an EA82. It fits fine if you have the turbo crossmember. There is a cutout, or dent if you will, that allows for the up pipe portion of the crossover to go through. If you have a oil pressure gauge you will need to move it by adding a 90' fitting. The skid plate will need to be altered a little to accomodate the front side of the pipe. Not any issues with the pan or other clearance issues. The standard y-pipe will fit between both EA81 and EA82 engines. I sometimes forget which is which as they are very similar.
