  1. Lucky you.. I can't find any stores around here that even carry a boost gauge.. I am going to have to order one online.. I have the same temp gauge you do.. was hoping to be able to just walk in and buy a matching boost gauge
  2. I wouldn't laugh at your cobbled together car.. it bears a striking resemblance to my cobbled together car .. Interesting place to mount your gauges.. Why didn't I think of that?.. Been looking all over the damn car trying to find a clean place to mount them..
  3. I haven't done the conversion. Its not a common one here in the states.. there are a few factory Turbos around( I hoard as many of them as I can get my hands on) The mounting points for the computer should be there on your carbed car , I believe.. directly above your knees when sitting in the drivers seat.. Most of the wiring harness runs through the drivers side fender.. in to the engine compartment through a hole about 2 inches around between the battery and the fusible links box.. Oh crap.. I just remembered.. you guys are all backwards down there on the bottom side of the world.. Chances are, take everything I just said and move it to the other side of the car Sorry.. I am only familiar with USDM Soobs..
  4. its something of a major conversion because of the computer and harness.. everything else is pretty much bolt on.. How hard it is depends mostly on your skills and resources. Not nearly as much work as putting an EJ in it though
  5. Sounds Like you have it about covered.. only thing I didn't see on the list was a Factory Service Manual.. I highly recommend having one for such a major conversion. Is the car currently an Auto or Manual.. that will add another list of parts... Edit: one thing to add to the list.. Axles.. RX trans has 25 Spline Axles.. Auto and NA manual both have 23 spline.
  6. BZZZZZ.. I'm sorry, thank you for playing, but you have missed out on the grand prize for today's round of "do you know your subaru" Local Dealership here averages 3 Phase I EJ25 headgaskets per week. Also told me that the number of Phase II gaskets coming through is on the rise. States his personal belief that they arent torqued properly at the factory.. At one time recently, they had 9 of them at once in the shop for the same thing..He has one guy that spends a lot of his time doing nothing but EJ25 headgaskets.. he's gotten really fast at it I hear.
  7. Vortex is the XT in the US, Correct? Auto to manual conversion isn't too difficult. The hardest part is swapping the Auto pedal box for the manual one. Changing the Flex plate/Torque converter is simply a matter of unbolting it and bolting the flywheel on.. I had it easy. When I did mine, i had the motor out of the car already, as well as the transmission. You will not need to change the computer. Nor will you need to change the dash, unless you want too( I plan to as soon as I find a digidash from a manual car ) Do a search on the board for a parts list. This has been covered extensively, and recently(within the past 2 weeks) Let me know if you run into any specific problems.
  8. Never seen a TurboWagon get 30.. Hell.. coming downhill from the rockies(13000 ft), that tankful only averaged out at 25mpg or so.
  9. 0-60 average time = About 10 minutes.... how good is the shift on the fly can i really engage it at any speed? Yes, but not for use on pavement.. thus generally not used at high speed. I have had mine in and out at 40 MPH or so, but generally high speed and conditions that require 4WD don't mix. what is the proper procedure for changing the timing belt? . Two pretty easy options.. Do a search.. I believe EdRach has a good write up on it somewhere around here.. Or buy a manual.. A cheapo haynes is an OK source of basic info.. FSM is really the way to go though.. especially if you are planning to keep the car for a while and do most of your work yourself.
  10. Well.. lets see.. It has 4 wheels and 1 spare(usually.. number may vary depending on condition).. most have 4 cylinders in them.. Seriously, you will have to be more specific. There is tons of info here about those cars.. what do you want to know?
  11. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/mechanical/engine-specs.html
  12. So make a thread stating what info you are looking for. There are lots of us that know a little about Loyales that would be willing to help you.... Or use the excellent search function featured in a sticky on the top of the page
  13. Find yourself a RHD legacy(postal wagon) on Ebay and go for it.
  14. Gonna try.. May have to choose between going there and going home to washington for a visit. Also have to balance work and school.
  15. In oregon? I would offer $800.. and thats only if it could legally be registered and insured as is... Less if above stated work is needed to make it driveable and/or legal. Kelley lists it at about 1100 for fair condition.. your decription may actually qualifiy it for poor condition(dependant on clutch condition), in which case, the values are greatly variable.. In my opinion, $1300 is too much
  16. As Torxxx stated, bleed the brakes in an X pattern.. might try bleeding the master cylinder as well.
  17. Check your owners manual.. I don't know abot the impreza, but most warn against putting the car in first while moving.. I have always been told, and have found through experience(60+ cars) that you should not put the car in first gear while moving. As for your second gear problem.. that just sounds weird.. Its only when the car is cold? if it were a linkage problem(which it sounds like) it would do it all the time..
  18. Not that I have heard.. you should probably get 4 new ones.. nice fresh start
  19. When you buy new struts, they don't come with springs. they just come with the strut cartridge. The spring, strut top and bearing you have to buy seperately or supply yourself.
  20. Nope.. won't throw the alignment off if you replace strutrs and springs as one piece.. if you remove the spring from the strut cartrige, make sure you get the strut top back on right and you'll be OK.. pretty hard to screw it up
  21. The justy motor (EF12)isn't interchangeable or even similar to the EJ soob motors.. EJ motors are flat (legacy, impreza motors and such like that) There is no direct compatibility whatsoever.
  22. Kelley blue book puts it at $1800-$2100..in perfect condition Given that, I wouldn't pay more than $1300-$1400...
  23. Looks like it.. but it is specifically designed to be hit with a hammer.. Good thing too.. I recently watched someone break a whole bunch of tools(breakers and such) trying to get an axle nut off..
  24. OK couple of things.. Any EJ motor will fit physically... If you go to a turbo motor, it will require the wiring harnes that goes with it.. If you deturbo it and S/C it, it will require an altogether different aftermarket fuel/spark managment setup.. As far as specs..depends on the year..USDM EJ20G is 227hp
  25. Carb block is not 9.5:1, unless of course JDM is different than USDM(which I don't believe they are) Anyway, higher compression and higher boost.. you may have more problems to worry about than your head gaskets.. be careful
