could be a clutch cable on its way out could be not enough grease on the TO bearing or fork Could be that silly rump roast 'helper' spring they put down on the pedal box (mine got really stiff, so I removed it.. all better now)

No and IIRC, the EJ22 is the only one of the EJ turbos (USDM) with the oil squirters. As far as the differences in the Blocks between the EA82 carb and EA82T. Different pistons - flat (9.0:1) instead of dished (7.7:1) PCV - Carb block doesn't have the hole in the top of the block for the PCV pipe. Not really a big deal. Can be dealt with Knock sensor - while the carb block doesn't utilize the knock sensor, the spot is there for it, and is already threaded. How do I know? I have one

Skip, For some reason I expected this to end in 'Burma Shave'

Lots have used WRX intercoolers, which install the same and are substantially cheaper. here is the reasoning: When bidding on a WRX take off, the only people bidding against you are others with custom projects and the occasional WRX owner going back to stock. When bidding on an STi IC, you will be bidding against all the people doing custom top mounts and every friggin wrx owner on the planet. Bottom line, it can be done. It will cost a LOT more for the IC though If that IC goes for less than $300, I will be surprised... Whereas, a WRX IC can be had usually for under $100

No twin turbos in the states. My understanding is that the twin turbos in AU, NZ and Japan are from the Legacy/Liberty. Never heard of a WRX from the factory with one.

Around here its just the opposite. There seem to be an unusual number of new gen people that do their own stuff. It still goes to the tuner after assembly for final tuning, but that takes a special skill set and equipment that most don't have. There are only a few local NASIOC people that I see on a regular basis, but every single one of them asks about the wagon whenever I see them. I think a couple are as excited to see it done as I am.

1987 Water Pump - Better pick right one..
calebz replied to LuckyPistol's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1 - I always take my water pump off and take it with me to show them which one it is.. saves arguing with the parts guy 2- one of the pumps comes with the pulley attached, one does not (at least thats what I have seen when looking at reman'd pumps) -

5-lug swap 88 GL-10T w/ legacy
calebz replied to 88GL10T's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I believe the legacy knuckles and struts will work on an EA82, but you need the XT6 control arms still..IIRC, you will need the legacy axles to go with it. Plus you will lose your front ebrake You still need the rear XT6 hubs to complete the 5 lug conversion -
True clayton, but you're special. You pulled yours from an 86 9000 didn't you? Why don't you tell this booy where the parts are located.. All my 9000s have been 92 and newer.

My understanding is that the VF4 was the turbo used on the EA81T cars..

Are radiators different in A/C cars?
calebz replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah.. all of my EA82 cars have been platic tanked single cores (list includes at least 2 auto turbos) -
Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator
calebz replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Stock FPR regulates at ~36psi above manifold pressure. 38-42 IMO is still well within the tolerances of the rest of the fuel system Any more, and I think it would start to overpower the injectors, and overdraw the pump. -
96 could still be had with the 2.2. best engine subaru ever made. the head gasket issue wasn't really fixed .. it just changed a little. For the 2000+, subaru has issued some special stopleak stuff to deal with external leakages. Perhaps by the 2005 model, that has been dealt with. Don't know anyone that has had their 2005 in the shop yet. Volvos will go 300k.. that thing you have isn't a volvo, its a ford My volvo has 245k on it

installing aftermarket tachometer
calebz replied to avatar382's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, as was suggested above, just poke a little hole in the grommet for the throttle cable or clutch cable. so far I have managed to run wires and hoses for a temp gauge, boost gauge, intercooler sprayer and difflock switch.. all without having to drill new holes. I keep this up and I am going to have to drill a new hole sooner or later..lol For the lighting option on the gauge, I generally tap into the illumination wire on the stereo. That way I don't have to wade through a huge mass of crap to find it. -
W00T!! Dammit

To tell you for sure, I would have to see tha CAI.. But my guess would be no. The wrx intake hose runs straight out from the turbo, under the intake manifold befor it turns toward the fender. On our cars, there is very little clearance between the turbo inlet and the inatke manifold. all four TD04 installs that I have seen(my own included) have used a tight 90 elbow off the turbo, then the intake boot pointed toward the fender from there. Yes, we know. You have included that tidbit of information in every post for the past two weeks
