  1. ..is there a "time" that you let the "drano" sit before flushing with water
  2. I don't know what yr car you have, but on my '01 OB it requires a "file to fit" ( 1mm removed off the pad "ear") procedure before installing the pads...
  3. I need to clarify here..the akebono on the front were called "street performance" (from tirerack.com).. thus giving that slightly extra edge to first time brakeing(cold morning or highway useage)..I would definitely continue to always use this particular brand or product..very low dust, never even a peep or squeel in 3yrs of useage, 40/60 city, highway, and only 1/2 wore down..but then again I do maintain the sliders from time to time for even wear...on my sons car the freshly turned rotors at that time with the "centric ceramic" don't have that smooth look on the rotor when comparing to stock pads or the akebonos..otherwise a very good pad for the price..I think over the long run with proper brake maint. the akebono would be a better way to go..unless you are selling the car of course, etc..
  4. I have tried them both and the only difference between them from my experience was that the akebonos had a slightly better "cold" bit in the morning..even with hard braking the centrics were also quiet...excellent pads for the money

  6. my '01 OB purchased 3yrs ago had a lot of build-up on the terminals and the top of the battery..cleaned it up and have used WD-40 occassionly on it..still the original battery and absolutely clean...we have a lot of cars in our family stable and WD40 has worked flawlessly for us

  8. maybe you could ask them where that tranny has been all this time in storage...the recycler nearby me keeps a lot of his trannys in trailers for storage sitting in there for well over 25yrs
  9. the exhaust valve is also thicker /more heavy duty to take the extra heat from the turbo
  10. ..removed the top of the carb (easy enough to do) and installed a new top gasket ,.. also adjusted the float 2mm to sit further into the carb bowl..still leaked but not as much after the ignition was turned off..however it did Not leak after manually turning the fuel pump off as before and running the motor the same 30seconds before turning the ignition off..some change has taken place, but still maybe the float needs further adjustment and/or the fuel pump difference of 1-2 psi is to much..new top gaskets will be ordered up and I will slowly play with this problem whenever...
  11. Thankyou again and off too exchange the top gasket of the carb..I have kept one many yrs as a spare just for this time..

Thanks GD for hanging in there..I am beginning to think that the top gasket needs replacement since I can see some wetness along the one side of the carb where the gasket is located..but before I do that...would you know if it is possible useing my mouth to blow air freely thru the return line into the tank (fuel cap off) ..because in my case I can Not....today I attached a toggle switch to the fuel pump hopeing to see some change ..so I manually turned off the fuel pump about 30-45 secs, (until the first stumble), before actually turning off the keyed ignition hopeing to drain the fuel out of the carb bowl ..several attempts of doing this only resulted in the same drip problem but only took a little longer before starting to drip
  13. ...yes, I am useing the return line and the orifice on the front side (radiator side) of the carb can be seen dripping fuel onto the throttle plate..the shut-off valve/switch next to it does work..could it be that the float is set to high
  14. ...it suddenly dawned on me today to ask the above question because over the many years and having 3 different carbs on the same car, they all have 2 things in common ...a slight fuel leak onto the throttle plate for about a minute or so after turning the car off..and the fuel pump which is "not" original and puts out 3.5 psi....there is no excess pressure in the gas tank..could the pump be the reason for the dripping fuel after shutting it down

  17. wait for snow and then test drive the car by slamming the breaks on the snow...if you feel that the "abs" is Not doing the job...then you need snow tires..my daughters 2002 lincoln Ls can stop in half the distance on snowy roads and can climb the hills with 2wdr and leave me sitting in the blizzard with the all wheel dr and michelin hydroedge tires ...I forgot to mention, try this stopping going down hill and be prepared...
  18. ..if you would settle for 5 large men..the next story would be about my good friend who lives and works in Cuba (on behalf of an American company) drives a Toyota Highlander Diesel loaded to the "nuts" holds 5 people and all the gear..40mpg (like the same vehicle you would find in Afganistan but not here) go figure..one is only left scratching their head
  19. ..I live about 1 mile from the border and I tank-up in the States with Canadian gas when I do my shopping..generally the cost of fuel is about $0.70-0.90 less per gal in the US..taxes are higher in Can. for fuel...there is some truth about killing the diesel for the US market because the price of fuel is to cheap..it is hard to justify the added extra cost of a diesel motor with low fuel prices..if you are a long distance driver like I was several yrs ago, the diesel fuel savings can add up very quickly, but for most of us reg driving would take a long time to get a return on investment..I like the diesel and I am driving one right now, but would perfer to have cheap fuel prices with cleaner burning, more efficent cars as opposed to having a new diesel with fuel prices of about $7-$10 dollars a gal. like in Europe etc ..with that being said,..I would like to see the diesel in NAm. in smaller hp versions..honda's civic 2.2 or toyota, VW, or the various version of the Audi 3 &4 starting with 1.3L..75mpg and still has far more get up and go then my old vw diesel turbo..85-90mph getting 50mpg would suit me just fine
  20. ....prying off the lines are very simple and easy....get a rag and a pair of wire or side cutters...then put the rag over the filter to absorb the "slightly"pressurized fuel while you are cutting each of the metal pipes as close to the filter as possible...now you have two disconnected hoses with metal pipes in them...use regular pliers and some twisting to remove the pipes and your done...before installing the new filter I put ever so thin a coating of diaelectric grease on the pipes before inserting them into the rubber hoses..makes removal easier next time

  22. ...you can manufacture a coil to produce high voltage any way you want..most of the volts at the beginning, middle or end..depends on the application...in this case, this particular coil has most of the voltage apon start-up..but what the manuf. does not tell you is that if you compare the stock to the accel coil at say @ 3000rpm ..the accel coil will produce Less current increasing the chance of misfires .. and the more rpms you add onto it ..well you get the picture

I understand better now and why the CVT would be better choice if more mpg was important to you...the last 9 days I had an opportunity to drive a 2.4L camry..it too had a reduced rpm (2000rpm @60mph) with a regular auto tranny..the fuel consumption was better then my OB, (but not by much), but highway driving was a constant shift between low and high rpm's every time you hit the slightest hill..annoying to say the least..yes, a little better fuel consumption, but I think it is also taking a step backwards
