I on SE 105th at Holgate... by the big church thing... not too far from the U-Pull-It on foster actually... tomorrow (saturday) I'm totally booked, but I think my sunday is open unless saturday runs over... --Spiffy

d'oh! I really need to get off my lazy azz and fix the broken motor mount (or whatever it was I snapped) so I can get back on the trails... granted, it's a stock '82 so it's not very tall yet, but I don't mind dragging it over obstacles... I really should crank up the adjustable suspension one of these days... --Spiffy

distracting drivers by encouraging them to drink is an american invention... thus cars from other countries didn't think of this at first... --Spiffy

definitely 13" wheels... and they will fit just fine... --Spiffy

I think I may have figured it out... since the ticking noise was coming from the approximate location of the keyless entry reset/programming button I thought maybe it was that... today at lunch the ticking starting immediately when the car was powered up... so I held down the button and it stopped... it didn't come back the entire hour... I'll see how my drive home is... I don't have any fobs for my keyless entry, so I didn't even think of it at first... for others interested here's the info on my keyless entry system: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html#code%20alarm had I read about the flashing lights thing I would have got out to see if the parking lights were indeed flashing... that would have been the obvious indicator... since I'm going to re-seat the battery cables tonight maybe I'll check it out... --Spiffy

Hrmm KYB
Spiffy replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
is this a dedicated subaru mechanic? because they usually recommend KYB as a replacement because they are just that good... I'll chime in my agreement on the old vs new making them feel stiff in comparison... they seem a little stiffer to me, but after having worn-out ones the lack of "sea-sickness" with new KYB's is refreshing... in conclusion, they aren't too stiff... but they are likely slightly stiffer... after all, they're new, and they're good... --Spiffy -
digging up an old thread here... this just started happening to me this morning... went out to my new 2000 Forester S and nothing happened when I turned the key... nothing at all... didn't even have enough juice for the dome light or power locks... opened the hood and pushed the battery cables on tighter and PRESTO it starts and I'm on the road to work... however, I notice a ticking noise, like a quiet blinker relay under the dash to the left of the steering column... it goes away for 30 seconds then comes back for a minute, and repeats the cycle... very annoying... when I got to work I turned the car off but left it on accessory to hear the last part of what they were saying on the radio... that's when it started cycling the radio and compass pod back-lighting dark and bright as if I were turning the lights or the key on and off... I've had the car for a couple weeks and I've never heard this ticking, and now it's suddenly doing it a lot... it's like the Tell Tale Heart is in my dash... any ideas other than jiggling the harness near the fuse box? I'll try that when I leave for lunch, but it seems like something needs to be reset... --Spiffy

yes, there are a few on here driving subies with a nissan t-case... do some searching and you'll find them... usually they're the monster rigs with solid axles... I think one person used 2 subie rears, 1 in the front... those kinds of mods are for the very dedicated and experienced... I'm fine with a normal lift, big tires, and slow speeds... or an EJ swap... whoa, totally cool! I would love to have a camper synchro, but yeah, money and availability is always an issue... --Spiffy

that hog's back sign looks familiar... is that the one where the entrance is lined with big squarish stones so you can't even start on the trail unless you're narrow enough? it looked really fun, but I was just joyriding with passengers and no recovery vehicle so I didn't go on anything I might get stuck on... Clock issues?
Spiffy replied to Sweet82's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I just used this fix to solder the 510 resister on my 2000 Forester clock... worked like a charm! here's what mine looked like before I re-soldered it: --Spiffy -
anybody ever put a wagon rear door on a hatch?
Spiffy replied to Spiffy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
drat! I guess I never really examined the profile to see what the roof was angled like... I'll have to dig up some pics of straight on shots of the rear of wagons and hatches... --Spiffy -
one of the really great things about a wagon is that the cargo access is ground level... I always considered that a limitation of the hatch, that you didn't have the full height of the cargo area to load things... so I was thinking it would be really handy to have a hatch with a wagon style rear to allow full access from top to bottom of the cargo area... has anybody ever cut the back off a wagon and mated it to the back of a hatch? seems somebody would be bored enough and have a wagon smashed up in the front and a hatch smashed in the rear that they could put together for one straight subie... I'd love to see it... --Spiffy

New Scooby Website Opening Soon
Spiffy replied to subarubits.co.uk's topic in Products for your Subaru
at least they have the fast high-performance mods at the top... GRAPHICS / DECALS / STICKERS SPOILER STRIP LIGHT COVERS BADGES AND EMBLEMS looks like they have a licence for reprinting Scooby Doo character images as well... how much HP do I gain by obscuring my 3rd brake light? ok, I guess they do have a few exhaust, intake, and bumper mods... but the site screams rice... --Spiffy -
remember that pics need to be 640x480 resolution or smaller, and no larger than 50KB in file size... the board's code isn't smart enough to resize for you, so pick up a program to resize them... I use FastStone... --Spiffy

assuming you mean ea82... there's a white canister to the rear of the passenger side front wheelwell near the firewall that holds the vacuum pressure for your vents... if you've got a push-button 4wd then there's 2 lines, one for the 4wd and one for the vents... but only one line going into it from the manifold... lots of times it's the canister that won't hold a vacuum... with me I had a problem with defrost not working, and on turbo models there's a special diaphram behind the glove box and mine was torn... --Spiffy

Spiffy replied to 2.5GL's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I'm working friday, so won't be anywhere close to being able to leave until like 6:30... and that's probably too late for catching much of the fun... was probably going to leave early saturday... just depends on how much time I can con the woman out of... --Spiffy -
