  1. So if the car is stopped and in neutral, and you rev the engine (gas pedal to the floor) the rpms won't go any higher then 3000? Have you tried checking the ECU for codes? www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html
  2. You may want to ask on nasioc in the conversions forum. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums
  3. I'd suspect either the water pump or headgasket. The cooling issues at low idle would be indicitive of a water pump...at least to me.....but the other issues on top of it....it very well may be a headgasket.
  4. Have you recently checked the transmission fluid level? Or changed the fluid? I would start there. If you haven't changed the fluid in a while, do that.
  5. I had thought the rear speakers were in the rear deck lid, not the doors.
  6. Please try and search. There are several threads that have good info. In fact this question was asked recently http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=54448 You should be able to use a 98 MT. Being that your car is OBD2, you will run into some additional wiring issues, then what I dealt with on my swap.
  7. I'm not sure what the final drive ratio is on the newer legacies, but the highest that the legacies have had is 3.90. I'm at about 3000 rpm at 80 mph....give or take. You won't really find a final drive less then that on most subarus (excluding the SVX). My recommendation would be to see if you can get a higher ratio for just 5th gear. I'm pretty sure there are some options out there. You may want to search http://forums.nasioc.com/forums or www.legacygt.com
  8. Yeah, My swap is pretty detailed. It has some additional info since I converted to AWD, but the electrical stuff is pretty for the AT to MT swap.
  9. I emailed you regarding the numbers. Did you get my email.

  11. The clutch style is different. You will need the clutch slave cylinder and possibly the clutch master cylinder & hyd. lines. You will also need to pull the speed sensor out, and put in the mechanical hookup so your speedometer will work.
  12. Yeah, I'd recommend replacing the thermostat. Make sure you replace it with a subaru thermostat. The ones at autoparts stores will give you nothing but headaches. Also, the first gen legacies have a bleed screw on the passenger side of the radiator. That must be removed in order to properly bleed the air out of the cooling system.
  13. What are you looking for? Some things are compatible between model lines and years. There's a list of some vendors on my site http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/links.html#vendors
  14. You should be able to go to any muffler shop and get a standard OEM replacement muffler. They may not have it in stock, but they should be able to order it.
  15. The 2nd gen liberties had a complete makeover in terms of body styling. There were some mechanical. Either way, there's too many to try and list everything. Especially since down under, you guys were able to get the twin turbo models. You may also want to check out http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/index.php
  16. The issue you can have is if the valve fails open, you can get have a poor idle situation. It's easy to change, I'd recommend just to change it. If you don't want to spend the money, post in the marketplace and find a used one.
  17. May want to also ask in the legacy forums on nasioc as well as www.legacygt.com
  18. If it fell inside, it would probably be on the back side of the pressure plate. If you don't hear any grinding or what not, then it's probably just in the bell housing. There is a lower cover that can be removed (it's a pain though). If you remove that, you may be able to retrieve the clip, if it's fell to the bottom of the bell housing. You can see the plate I'm talking about in some of these pics http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/images/swap/11/
  19. Subaru does not use dual/2 stage boosters. They are tandem diaphragm boosters. Pretty much all legacies/outbacks that I know of got tandem diaphragm boosters. Only the early gen base imprezas got single diaphragm boosters. However, there are different size tandem diaphragm boosters. If the outback has larger diaphragms, then it will provide more assist then the smaller diaphragms. I took apart a tandem booster. Here are some of the pics. I've also labeled certain parts http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/brakebooster/ http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/brakebooster2
  20. What is KOEO, KOER? Have you tried checking to see if any codes are stored in the ECU? Instructions can be found on my site, under notes & tips, engine related www.surrealmirage.com/subaru
  21. Have you tried removing the main fan and just applying voltage to it to see if it's working? I'm not exactly sure how the low & high speed work....I think you need to apply voltage to both leads, instead of just the one.
