Hi Bob, The problem is intermittent, and sounds like a short or possibly a pinched wire. What I'd probably try and do is trace all the wiring back from the TCU to the transmission connector and verify continuity, and then check the transmission wiring/components to see if their resistance measures up with what they should be. While you're checking wire resistance, I'd suggest pulling/moving the wiring harness around to see if that gives you an intermittent loss of continuity.

I drove an 08 Outback rental car and wasn't impressed with the power. The auto trans wasn't overly great, but I wasn't expecting leaps and bounds. However I drove my aunt's 08 Legacy SE, and that car seemed to have more power, and the trans seemed a little more responsive. Personally, I think the issue with Subarus' and their AT is the power, or lack of power. With more power, either the flat six or turbo models, you tend not to have hunting issues as much. My ex had an 06 LL Bean Outback with the six, and it drove pretty well, however it was the 5EAT, not the 4EAT. So I don't know. I think the issue is a combination of things.

If you don't have the charcoal canister, or want one, you can put a jumper hose from the vent line coming to the tank to the line going to the canister purge solenoid. This will just allow the vapors to be drawn into the manifold. What the charcoal canister provides that the above solution won't is that the charcoal canister absorbs the vapors while the car sits, acting kind of like a storage tank and then vents them to the manifold when the canister purge solenoid opens. Granted, that's probably over simplified, but the jist of it. Josh

Welcome to the board. I'm going to move your thread to the old gen side as the Loyale is predominently an older generation car. Josh

You should notice if the AC clutch is engaged or not. If the clutch is not engaged, the pulley part will spin and the very front part won't. With the clutch engaged, both parts spin. You can test this by having someone else press the AC button, and watch the AC compressor pulley. Even if you don't know exactly what is what, you'll see something start and stop spinning. If nothing changes when the AC button is depressed, you probably have an electrical issue.

I'm assuming you're talking about the transmission. Proper spelling/grammar helps... As for the splash plate. If you can reach it with a 10mm ratcheting wrench, you may be able to change the plate without removing the engine or disconnecting the trans. You may have to jack the engine up a little to give you some room to work. Josh

After nearly four months of the car being down, I finally got everything finished up this past weekend. I'm real happy with how everything turned out and the fitment. I'm getting much better flows through the system compared with the old setup. Teaser pic All pics here http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/awicradiator In addition I remounted the Hella Supertones since I had to move them when I installed the air-to-water intercooler. I fabbed up a bracket under the area where the ABS pump goes. Here's the old location http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/hellahorns.jpg New location http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/hellasupertones/ Josh
