99 RS 2.5 Tranny ?
Dr. RX replied to rkkepner's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI believe the RS's have hydraulic clutches, if so, then you will need to get a tranyy from a Subaru with a hydraulic clutch. These trannies used a pull type clutch instead of the push type found on cable clutch cars. There are also several tricks you'll need to know about removing and installing these trannies.

Is there a impreza 1600cc gl on us market
Dr. RX replied to neil mc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGee Neil. I'm no expert on exchangeability for the Atlantic, but I am for the Pacific, and since Subaru makes the EJ16 in Japan, I guess I might qualify. The big difference will be if it is carburated or injected. The injected engine is a bolt in, but the carbed engine requires some mods. The only carbed EJ16 that I know of has a distributor, it was exported to Third World Countries only. I guess Ireland would qualify for that (jk'ing I'm Scottish).

So what's your opinion about JDM engines?
I had a JDM engine in my 86 Turbo Sedan (it was in there when I purchased the car) but I have no idea how many miles it had on it. I ran it for two years averaging over 15K a year with no problems. I was going to rebuild it, but got a good deal from CCR Inc. so I used it as a core engine. There was no real reason to rebuild the engine, I think resealing it would have solved all of the oil leak problems.

Corky's Garage Saga
Look at Zap's picture, but think of it with all the plywood in place. I finished nailing the front side today, did the required nail every 7 inches, and cut most of the excess plywood off, just one corner left. I should be getting a call sometime tomorrow telling me when the roofing material will be delivered, but I still need to get the inspector there before I start putting that on. I'll call the inpsector and talk with him, but I'm sure he'll going to want it further along or complete before he'll inspect.

EA82t swap into a 80 brat
Swapping an EA82 into an EA81 series car has it's problem, with the side rails being the worst. You want to put this into an earlier series body, I'm not sure about the side rails, but they might even be narrower then the EA81's, if so, you will definately have to do some cutting of the rails. Installing a turbo has another problem, the uppipe, that comes from the heads to the turbo travels over (between the engine and it) the crossmember. On turbo cars, this area has been recessed to allow clearence, you may have to modifiy your crossmember to make this allowence.

Corky's Garage Saga
I'd love to see that too, but I have to get the sheaving and roof plywood inspected first, and that may not happen until late this week. I go back to work on Monday, so my time will be limited.

It would take a lift, but only up to 8 feet, not planning to put in a lift. Hey Zap, I didn't even notice that you took that. LOL Hey look in your nail bag, I think my snapline is hitch hiking a ride. LOL

Corky's Garage Saga
Very Wet day today, but we still got a lot done. Zap came over and we actually managed to get all the trusses set and half a roof on. Zap is awesome with a hammer, just point him in a direction and stand back. Looks like weather isn't going cooperate, so It might not be until next Thursday or Friday (or both) before I take another day off to tackle finishing the roof. I need some rest, I'm been going at it since last Friday, I think Zap noticed how fatigued I was today. Zap, if Sunday dries out, I'll probably try to get at least the plywood up over the slanted wall so that I can get an idea of what angle to cut the roof edge at.

Hey Zap, if you're on the computer, the trusses are here, I'll call you in a little while, I don't like calling people so early in the morning.

ecu location..how to check codes
Dr. RX replied to slidewaysuby's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCorrect call Todd, my 95 Legacy wagon is OBD2 also. On a side note, in you list of cars, you show a 95 Impreza L 2.2 AWD but don't show it as an auto tranny, I though all 2.2s up to 97 were autos in Imprezas.

West Coast Subaru Show website is now up!!
Someone who lives close to John want to go over and help him out with this, he seems to be having a problem getting to PayPal from the Show site, funny, no one else seems to have the problem. LOL Maybe we need to create some sort of a mechanical method so John can figure it out.

Corky's Garage Saga
I understand the Ken is stealing (jk) all my help for some Subaru project on Saturday. Well If Zap can make it on Friday to help me set the trusses, I probably won't need the help on Saturday, heck I may even have time to come down and harrass, ooppss I mean help Ken.

Legacy vs Impreza 2.2 eng & Trans
Dr. RX replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLarry, as far as I know, and can see from looking at both, there is no difference, if you are talking just the engine and tranny. Some people seem to think that the auto trannys are different, but they look the same to me.

Corky's Garage Saga
To say I'm pi$$ed would be an understatement. I got a call from the truss people this morning telling me that they won't be able to deliver the trusses until Friday. That means that earliest that I could get an inspector to look at the place would be Monday. So, it looks like I'll be putting up the trusses and plywood this weekend and waiting until after it gets inspected to put the roofing on.

Who's corcky???

Corky's Garage Saga
All the walls are up, tomorrow I'll true them, then start the shiving. Should have everything done by Wednesday night for the trusses on Thursday.
-
Corky's Garage Saga
I probably won't need much help until Thursday, the last wall will be going up within an hour after I post this, it is just putting the shiving on and setting the truss clips. Thursday night will be the critical night.

Corky's Garage Saga
Ann would love to watch the boy, it would make her day. I knew you were in construction, but didn't know exactly what. I'll give you a call when the strusses get here, we can go from there.

Corky's Garage Saga
So, you weren't worried about stepping on rusted nails??? Yep, the trusses will be delivered Thursday, I need to get them up in place and plywood on them so hopefully I can get the inspector to come by Friday afternoon to buy them off so that I can put the roofing on Saturday and Sunday. It should be sporty, especially since most of you guys will be working on Thursday, should be fun.

Should I buy this brat......
I hope for you sake that the guy isn't like some I have dealt with. I am also an antique car nut, I saw an Auburn Supercharger 4 door (the rear doors open from the front, the four doors are the rare ones) sitting in a guys yard, I had seen this car sitting in the same place when I was in high school, and it had been there many year before I saw it. Well when I finally figure I was in a financial position to restore such a car, I went and talked with the guy (this was about 35 years ago). When I asked him if he would sell the car, he said, emphatically, "NO!!!", I asked him what he was planning to do with the car, and his comment was, "Nothing." So there sat this beautiful example of a very rare car, with weeds grow all around, in, and through the car, and he was just going to let it rust away. I couldn't believe it. I drove past the place 5 years later and the car was still there. I was going to watch the obituaries for his death so that I could see if his family would sell the car, but I lost interest over time and moved on with my life, I don't know what ever happened to that car.
