No, outside the USA, these cars were called Loyales, the EA81s and earlier were known as Leones.

Interesting, based upon the VIN breakdown chart taken from a Subaru Parts Price Book ( http://www.corkysrocks.net/images/VIN.bmp ), it doesn't mention a GL-10 using that VIN. I see you also caught the extra number. Is your database only good for USA models???

Impreza gone after 2006?
Dr. RX replied to WJM's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOK, here is what the article states, "As for Subaru's compact Impreza model, execs say the vehicle will be freshened this August for the 2006 model year. A full model change occurs in 2007, and at that time it's likely the Impreza will get a new name more fitting with the rest of the vehicles in the lineup." So like deiscient said, "in name only." Hopefully it will include a 2 door version. Rumor also has it that the Mitsubishi Evolution (Lancer) will not get a Ver X, they are building a new car with a new name and will probably start over with an Evo 1 version of that car.

I think there is an extra number in the VIN, I think it should be JF2AC56B1HG220351. WJM, I don't know where you get the idea it is a GL-10, there is no air suspension on the car (the 5 is an 1800 AWD w/o air, a GL-10 would have a 7 instead). It is an 87 model years and it should have a Full Time 4WD D/R tranny with a center lock in it. The color is probably correct, because there was not the limited choice of color on the sedans as there was on the coupes. Look for a color code on the radiator support.

2.2 for $750 does that sound good
There is a big difference in prices between Salem, Or. and Alburquerque, NM. A lot depends upon availability, here in the North West we are blessed with a lot of Subarus running around, that may not be the case in New Mexico. Heck in the Puget Sound area, at a Pull-A-Part, you could get the engine, tranny, wiring harness and the ECU for $400. Based upon availability, $750 may be a great deal. Don't let a one time chance slip through your fingers because someone hundres of miles away from you, in a different market, tells you what they can get one for. Ask around, see what other yards in your area would charge for the same setup, then make up you mind.

93 impreza "bad motor" any ideas?
Dr. RX replied to Hondasucks's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere doesn't have to be water in the oil for the head gasket to leak. It also doesn't take much water to hydrolock. If it is cheap, buy the thing, humor us, plug the plugs and give it a spin, then let us know what happened. To SUBARU3, I said that I wouldn't touch, I didn't say there was anything wrong with 2WD Subarus, just that I won't own one.

head bolt TQ....
Gee, it seems that for all the reasons that you are saying copper gaskets are bad are the reasons why you should use copper gaskets. With copper being a softer metal, it tends to mold itself to any imperfection in the head. Sealing is the whole reason to go with copper, because of it's softness. There is another plus, they are reuseable, but the trick there is that you have to anneal them before you re-use them, and that is easy to do. One of the major causes of head gasket failure on Subarus is that after the engine is rebuilt, people don't go back and retorque that heads after about 500 miles. With copper head gaskets, you wouldn't have to do that (but you should just to be safe).

Rebuild EJ20DET
Dr. RX replied to cyboid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI agree with Kevin, I'd like to see a picture of that stamped in the engine. I have had more the ten JDM EJ20 series engines go through my garage (both twin turbo and single turbo) and not one them ever had that stamped on the engine. Subaru do not make an EJ20 engine with that designation. The only thing that you should see is a place where EJ20 is cast into the block, under the alternator, and then some assembly numbers stamped in the block. Subaru never stamped the complete engine designation on the block, that information is on the data place by the strut tower.

93 impreza "bad motor" any ideas?
Dr. RX replied to Hondasucks's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it only turns so far and then stops, that has nothing to do with the timing belt. Pull the spark plugs, I'll bet that if you spin the engine with the spark plugs out you will spray water out one of the spark plug holes. The EJ18 is a clearence engine, so there will be nothing interfering with the crank rotation. I wouldn't touch it if it is a 2WD, but that also depends upon the asking price (free would be nice). If you really thing it is a timing belt, pull the cover by the battery, turn the engine over by hand and see if the belt moves. That is also the side that has the cam angle sensor, so if that cam isn't turning that the engine will not get that correct signals and it will not fire.

West Coast Subaru Show website is now up!!
Yep, looks like the PayPal is working now, I've gotten two so far this morning. If you tried to register before but it failed try again, that is where we are getting our registration database from, if you don't go through there, we my miss you. So you have your warning, if somehow you get missed, it will probably be because you didn't use the web site. As for posting a list, I guess I could do that, but I'll wait awhile to get one started.

West Coast Subaru Show website is now up!!
Didn't get anything from you, did get one person so far that has actually sent money via PayPal. The e-mail site shows that at least 4 people have registered (Tex sent one, but I don't know if that was real or not). You people either need to pay through PayPal or send me a separate e-mail (link on web site) to get mailing info. Brian, you might want to try again, if I get more the one from you, I will return all but one. I sent a reply to the three that I didn't get any money from, the reply included my mailing address.
