Weird Electrical Problem (long)
OK, I found the code 12, in the Fuel Injection section, it states, "Detectable part = Starter SW1, Description = Whether starter switch remains OFF or not when engine speed is low (The switch must not remain OFF)" I wish that made sense to me, but it doesn't, I read the code with the ignition switch in the on position and when the engine does turn over, it does it slowly, so that statement for the code doesn't make sense to me. Two pages later is list the trouble codes and claas a code 12, " Starter switch in OFF mode", whatever that means. So I got to the trouble shooting guide, and it talk about checking voltage at a connector. But I think this error code is a result of the weird elctricaly problem, not the cause of it.

Weird Electrical Problem (long)
The 85 GL 4WD Turbo Wagon (auto tranny) is having a wierd electrical problem. It acts like the battery is not charged. Well I should say somethings it acts that way. The battery has been fully charged and the terminals cleaned, the starter has been replaced, but the problem is still there. When you first try to start it, you get the clicking sound like a weak battery and the starter trying to engage. When you release the key and it goes to the on position, the dash warning lights are dim, but slowly get brighter. If I try to start the car again, the starter engages and turns over slowly, too slowing to start the engine, plus I don't think there is enough electricity for the fuel injection to work properly. The same thing that happened before, happens again when to ignition switch is retured to the 'on' position, the warning lights are dim, but slowly get brighter. I checked the FSM, and in the engine trouble shooting area, it states to check the trouble shooting area for the starting system, but as much as I look, having gone through all four books of the FSM set, I can not find a starting system section, let alone a trouble shooting section for that system. I check the ECU (ECM in the FSM) see a code 12, but check the FSM for the codes, it only shows codes for the ECC (Electronic Controled Carburator), and 12 is not one of those code. I thought someone had put these codes in the "USRM - Repair & Mod" section of this web site, but could find them there. So, now I'm heading to check the FSM library that I purchased to see it there is a separate trouble shooting guide, but I don't remember one. If anyone has any idea what a code 12 mean in an EA82T, 1985 model year, please let me know.

WRX internals upgrades
Actually, for Calebz, that was rather gentle.

whats a turbo unit worth??
You're probably going to think this is a smart rump roast answer, but think about it. It really depends whether you are buying or selling. If you are buying, you want to get it as cheap as possible, if you are selling, you want to get the most for it. I can't remember what PAPs around here wants for one, but I think it is less the $25.00. The last person who asked me if I had one, I said I'd give them one. So my advise is to name a price, then stand back and see what happens. If people jump all over it, you guessed to low, if it gets no bites, then it is too high.

LSD rear vs part numbers
The GL-10 in 89 had the LSD as standard equipment. The LSD was an option on all most every model for years 1985 to 1989.

LSD rear vs part numbers
My avatar is the label for the LSD, Subaru wouldn't mislabel them, but what might happened is someone might have had one rebuilt and the rebuilder put the wrong rear cover on the diff. The wheel spin is a good way to test, but if someone welded the rear diff, it will also spin the same direction.

LSD rear vs part numbers
It's kind of small, but look at my avatar picture.

3.9 RX trans?
I would say the the chart is wrong, since the RXs had LSDs and they were only available in a 3.70 ration in 85, therefore the tranny would also have to have a 3.70 ratio.

how "good" are the full time 4wd trannys.
Zap is right, and if it was a 89, it definately would have a LSD since they were standard on all 89 GL-10 4WD manual tranny cars.

i'll be moved to portland next month
Dang, Bend's loss, but Portland's gain, the Bend/Sisters/Redmond area needs more Subaru fanatics, not fewer. Oh well, looks like I won't be seeing you when I come down to Sisters around Christmas.

No he really does work at the sign shop, he has this thing for vinyl.

cheap (?) GL10 in auburn, split idea?
Boy, that's weird, a 2WD turbo wagon, I've seen 2WD turbo sedans, but never a wagon. So, after the engine is gone, I guess just body parts are left since the tranny (2WD auto) is blown.

LSD and ratio question(s)
The main reason is that the ring and pinion gears in the 3.90 are already matched and shimmed. Just putting the 39 tooth ring gear into the LSD case will not work since the pinion gear isn't matched to that ring gear.

LSD and ratio question(s)
Once I pull them apart, I only put the LSD back together. I recycled a bunch of them about 6 months ago.

LSD and ratio question(s)
Yes, I do it all the time, infact I have two of them to do for someone right now. You need to take the LSD diff from 3.7 ring gear and bolt it to the 3.9 ring gear, you just need to grind a few spots on the 3.9 case, those spots will be obvious.

problem rx
Dr. RX replied to normand's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRX????? What country are you in??? What about the front wheel bearings? Or maybe (but I doubt it) the wheels are out of balance.

loyale RS?
Unless it was installed later, no RS came with a D/R tranny. In 1990, there were a few turbos, none in 91. The turbos had S/R 5 speeds or automatics. The turbos are actually rarer then the 89 1/2 Black RXs. I have only seen one, but I have seen 3 of the black RXs. The emblem changed in 1990, it just had the stars, with no lines connecting them. I have a set of the gold emblems for this car.
