Don't kill me! Fuel Pump Harness/Connector
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm looking for access to the fuel pump to clean the fuel level sender/sensor/leveler (or whatever you call it). When filled up, the gauge moves too slow to show that's the tank is full. I'm wondering if the level sensor is too dirty or something.

Power steering pump leak
jcniest5 replied to applegump's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPossibly, you can just get an o-ring that replaced the one in between the pump and reservoir. I know mine had some leaking problem consistently and I thought it was the whole pump. I decide to go with the cheaper solution and bought an o-ring and now mine is perfectly dry. Drain your PS fluid, unscrew the two bolts holding the reservoir to the pump and take out the o-ring and take it to an auto parts store and get the correct size o-ring. Install it and see if it fixes the leaking. Afterall, the o-ring is less than a dollar so you won't sacrifice an arm for it. If it's still leaking, let me know as I have a good used pump (I think) and I can ship it to you for just the shipping charge. Just let me know.

tire lifespan in AWD legacy
jcniest5 replied to friendly_jacek's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBTW, I wasn't saying I had good tires. I indicated mine were cheap tires, but they still had good thread when I replaced them due to one of them being warped, making the car really shaky. Like I said, if I had rotated them regularly and aligned my car properly, I may still be driving them today as their thread were still good.

Don't kill me! Fuel Pump Harness/Connector
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think that applies to wagon, not on the sedan, which is what I have. Or am I wrong?

Don't kill me! Fuel Pump Harness/Connector
Okay, I've been reading numerous posts regarding gas tanks and how to find the fuel pump connector/harness, but I could never find mine. Everyone has been saying it's located under the backseat, but when I take out the backseat, I could only see some harnesss going under, but I could never find where to pry to open the way to the fuel pump connect/harness. Someone with the same year (90-91 Leggie ) of car, please help me. Where do find this connector/harness? I can't pry open anything once I take out the backseat. Nothing to work with. Am I blind or something? Edited: No, I mean I see the connector/harness, but I couldn't get to the gas tank opening to service the pump.

tire lifespan in AWD legacy
jcniest5 replied to friendly_jacek's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTires should last longer than what you've experienced. My 91 Leggie went through roughly 45K on a generic tires (cheapy ones from Kelly's) and I only rotated the tires three times (if not less) during the whole time. They would have lasted even longer if I had my car aligned and rotate every 6K miles. Been driving (and still) unaligned. I did my alignment awhile back using plain eyesight and have been that way since, which wasn't too bad. But I should have it aligned correctly anytime now as I just bought a new set of tires. I say your PSI is somewhat high, making the tires wear faster. Don't use too little or too much air, just enough, it's the most efficient way prolong tire life, tire/thread wear and fuel economy.

90 legacy running like **** any clues?
Sorry to hear about your problem. You've been so kinded to me, I'm feeling real bad of not being able to show some kind of kindness in return, not to mention sending the payment late, too. I feel your pain, bud.

Rev Up switching...
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGoing from Off to Defrost, the rpm does not rev up (I think), but from Defrost to Defrost/Heater, it would rev up. I will do a more thorough test switching between them and see what happens.

Rev Up switching...
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFrom some funny reason, it wouldn't do it when I switch from Heater to Defrost, only does it when switching from Defrost to Defrost/Heater (the bi button). Thanks for the info, though. It's good to know there's nothing wrong with my work car.

A/T fluid question
jcniest5 replied to locknar's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI could never get an accurate reading of my dipstick either! I finally gave up and if I have at least 6-8 qts of fluid in it, I'm fine with it. Been trying this thing for couple years now without getting a clear reading. There always to be one side of the dipstick is wet while the other side is dry (or not as wet) or half of each side is wet and the rest is not as wet (appearing almost dry). Like I said, I finally gave up!!!

Rev Up switching...
I want to know if this is normal. When I switch the heater from Defrost to Defrost/Heater, my engine rev up quite a bit, actually forcing the car to go if I don't step on the brake hard. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my 91 Legacy AWD Auto non-turbo? Thanks in advance.

Color of Knock Sensor
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXProbably that's why lately, my car doesn't give me the pulling power it did before. It just doesn't have that feeling to it.

Rough idle !!!!!
jcniest5 replied to magnoman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's probably the culprit of the IAC.

Color of Knock Sensor
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's what I want to know. Sounds stupid, but what will it do/don't do to the engine with the ECU pulling the timing? Does it have any big affect to the fuel economy, power or something?

Pictures of Alternator Replacement
jcniest5 replied to EOppegaard's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXEach time I wet my engine, usually from spray washing the engine, my CEL comes on but it would go away after the engine is dry, usually a hour or two of driving. Is this CEL a tribute to my old knock sensor (the gray connector one as indicated elsewhere)? If it is the newer one (white connector) then I wouldn't have this CEL even when the engine is wet, correct?

Color of Knock Sensor
jcniest5 replied to jcniest5's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGray, it is! So, there's something bad about the old one, correct? If there is, I might as well replace it now.
-
Color of Knock Sensor
Did I read somewhere that on the earlier Leggies, if they have brown knock sensors, it usually means they are the bad sensors that was replaced by the black ones. I remember reading it but when I try to do a search on this topic, nothing came up. Someone please point me to these posts that mention them. I think mine is black. Thanks!

Bubbles in coolant reserve tank
jcniest5 replied to TeamPanic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe best thing to do now is don't PANIC! Take out the reservoir and empty it into a pan and manually observe the coolant and see if there is sign of oil. Often times, there may be bubbles when the radiator just finishes puking some from its stomach to the reservoir. Hope it's not what we are all afraid of!

Redline 75W90NS
jcniest5 replied to rweddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMine is Auto, how should I use it then? Shockproof in the tranny or just the front and rear diff. (or all of them?)

Redline 75W90NS
jcniest5 replied to rweddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm still confused. So, if I understand it correctly, we can use this Redline 75W90NS in the tranny, front and rear diff., correct? Can someone give me a better/clearer answer, plz...plz...plz...?
-
Redline 75W90NS
jcniest5 replied to rweddy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAre we talking about tranny fluid or gear fluid? I know my front and rear gear use that kind of fluid but never knew the tranny can, too, without risking internal damage. If it helps that much, I might as well switch!

And there went another FI!
