  1. cool! but wait... do you have a lift in there? or is that just the swampers? (i could have bought swampers, but I opted against them due to lack of offroadable area in this state :-p ) but nevertheless it looks cool! hope that we can play again soon in the woods- (before wcss8 )
  2. when I worked at subaru (in the tire shop) the official subaru spec for ALL subarus was 65 ft/lbs or, if you have one of those colorful "torq-stick" sets- use the yellow one
  3. ooooooohhh! sweet! I should be there by then dont think i will get very good times on the track though
  4. yikes.. and just think of all those ones that are working fine in junkyard cars, that we could easily collect... cheap and plenty! someone should be collecting things like this on j/y trips
  5. you know you can always call on me for help! (I belive you have my #s) good luck with the trip- i should be following in a few months from now
  6. its been 6 months from the time I moved away from the north seattle area- and each month I have been away I more and more want to move back.. I have found nothing out here that I like in comparison.. (but thats because I am used to west WA, and this is very different here) brier and mountlake terrace are pretty cheap areas that are still close to the major city life- (good for jobs, etc) either state is a good choice as far as climate though- you cant go wrong in WA and OR! btw, i cant stand it when people pump my gas for me! I usually tried to find a gas station with lazy attedants, and pump it myself when i was hanging out in eugene
  7. swap meet? oohhh.. howabout a 4wd D/R tranny? and flywheel (ea82 4wd)? i would be interested if one is available in good shape ok.. so .. go figure, but I am supposed to work on monday which means it will be hard to get that day off, plus friday? hmm... still not sure i can pull it off.... if I can, do we know who all is coming at this point?
  8. i have beat my impreza up a lot.. and many other subarus.. they are tough to break- however if the local mechanic used a cheap-brand reman axle (non OEM) then thats your problem. I am almost sure of it... i stopped buying cheap brand reman axles cause they usually break when i install them.. one of them never made it into the car, cause it was broken out of the package! other axles (also cheap reman) exploded on me... even after a week of normal driving! so i would say, DONT get a cheap reman axle to replace that one- get a genuine Subaru reman or NEW from a dealer. trust me- its worth the extra money!!!
  9. sounds like its a tempurature related problem- try putting FULL synthetic oil in it, and use 5w30 or lighter- the oil at less-than 10degs F would be pretty thick, and it may have something to do with this- also only have a subaru shop/dealer do work on it- those jiffy lube places can screw up your car- trust me.. i have had experience fixing problems caused by those places... also, keep MORE than 1/4 tank of gas- any less and you will have moisture problems in the fuel system.. wich will make it not start.. (also, stay away from E85 gas)
  10. still not sure on this yet.. having second thoughs due to apparent lack of interest in the meet idea? (main reasons- money, and I havent talked to the boss yet for the time off- cause I still need to know when to ask for time off?) lets get a vote.... when exactly (I need a day drive each way minumum so when would the party/meet be, the 31st/or 1st? sat looks better to me) who will be there? where will it be, and what we gonna do? hotel? party crash at someones home? ?
  11. my turbo xt did this in the summer time... whats wrong, is that you are leaking coolant. and there is not enough or any flow to the radiator- so... replace the thermostat. about 10 to 15 bucks... if that doesnt fix it, then you must replace the radiator- it is most likley cloged... trust me on this one- this was the problem with mine- the symptoms are the same as you described- I replaced my radiator with a junkyard unit and it worked fine, even when it was 100 degs outside!
  12. thats what I mean, that tag, which all my previous EA cars had.. the imprezas no longer have that tag back there... there is no tag at all on it... it has what looks like mini "heatsink fins" on the backing plate.. so thus, no place to put a sticker...
  13. I remember back when i had EA cars.. but now with the impreza, I cant just look at the sticker on the rear diff to tell what ratio I am running :-\ I am planning on going with the EA D/R swap.. but I need to know if I need to swap rear diffs too? does my impreza (1994 5spd L wagon EJ18) have the 3.9 or 4.11? how can I look it up, some other way than rotating it and counting the revs...?
  14. I will only run synthetic in my car now (well, or whatevers cheap if I need it in a pinch) and I am drivin the 94 impreza with 181k+....NO leaks! it was horrid when i bought it, leaked out of almost every seal... but I fixed er up good (this was at 160k) and, its still going good! so if you used good OEM seals, and OEM 3-bond glue (for the oil pan, sep plate, oil pump) it should be fine with synth- and it should run a little better too... thats just my experience and advice
  15. things are looking good for me... I still am waiting for final confirm on the -time off from work part of things- so... whats gonna happen, party? new years celebration? i vote yes we would need to know where to meet, who all is coming, and what to bring? which day should we play exactly? saturday would be the appropriate day I think.... any of the washington peeps gonna head out too? any from other areas? party!
  16. things are looking better for a montana meet- i dont think i can afford the time off and the traveling all the way to WA.. :-\ not this time around anyways.. so I am going to look into a meet with you guys, and see if i can drag some of my WA subie members too- hoping for Hass, and MrCarb, and maybe Randomizer? (Dave,Carl,Troy)? so If i can get friday or monday off.. that will give me a full day in Bozeman!
  17. wow... this sounds like a good idea too and yeah.. try not to make it a commercial event.. the free-er the better right? I would like to help out too, assuming i will be back in the area in time (I vote for late july, like around my b-day )
  18. oh no!!! that sucks! wonder if its the same crazy person that stole the one I ended up buying? (same color even!) hope you find it.. I will let me washington buddies know to keep an eye out for it- good luck!
  19. sounds good- lets talk about doing the conversion! all I would need is the DR.. I can get the adaptor stuff could you help me weld a mount in for the tranny? (to fit into my car) and could you help me out with the center driveshaft?- PM or email me... I really want to do this
  20. well, its was 8º outside the other day, and the pipe and lights are still attached! and.. i hit a few branches with the rack, (while offroading at flatfender farms) and its still here! so the pipe idea was.. ok... its not the best, but it seems to hold up so far... I am going to get some mesh/chickenwire stuff to put over the whole thing soon
  21. we went offroading at flatfender farms in WI, and it was slick... I slid into a tree sideways (not drifting, it was sliding downhill into the tree when i was trying to drive up!) and the next thing i hear, *boosh* there goes the glass on the rear door!! but I went to u-pull-r-parts and got a new door and now its better! although, i have one power door, and 3 manual not to mention, this one needs some color it was a harsh day offroading, the mud was so slick, and the whole "park" was on a hill, so once we got down, we could not get back up (even the jeeps and chevys with boggers it was nasssty.... makes EC 311 look like a beginner trail! but now I know what my imp needs for sure- a low range!!!
  22. andyjo- you cut that poor thing up! here is the project so far.... the lights are not hooked up yet, but that should come tomorrow. I am still trying to find a cheap alternative for the side and rear lights. harbor freight comes to mind
  23. welcome to the board! a good suggestion, from my experience- start with general clean up, tune up (plugs, wires, cap+rotor, disty advance check/adjustment w/timing light, oil changes (all fluids+filters, dont forget the fuel filter near the tank, not just the one up front) and then some fuel system cleaner (not STP brand) and just a tip, many of us have discovered.. that OEM parts work the best (dont go cheap, its not worth it) especially when it comes to the plugs+wires, ect... synthetic oil will work well, by reducing friction in the engine- also reducing the running temp. but it may cause it to leak- so only use it after a reseal! when you drive the car, it helps to bring it close to redline occationally when driving, this will cause the fuel/air/exhaust to flow faster thru the motor, and "clean out" some of the carbon and crud buildup on the valves, ect.. hope some of this may help.. then the big mods come later, (or sooner, if you want to skip the above mentioned and go right for the "EJ22 swap, see the conversion forum for that)
  24. yeah, pvc can be cool this may not be the best looking one, but it certainly works well! pvc is cheap, and very versitile.
  25. stage 1 complete.. the base to which I will add stuff to soon lights and screen to come next
