Pics of My Monster (6inch Camo Brat) on Trip

Featured Replies

Took the brat to Big Levels in Nelson County, VA, Last weekend.

I Go at it from the Blue Ridge Parkway, west of Waynesboro, near Sherando, and go about 6 miles south, to the Bald Mountain Overlook, there is a road that goes in at that point, and you are at the top of it pretty much, it is down hill from there..

It was VERY rocky, from the torrential rains all summer, and the flash flooding they had out there last wednesday.

Very active springs all over, and many sections, the road was the Stream Bed...

On the level portions up near the St. Mary's Wilderness access, it was very muddly with many little lakes you had to drive through, luckily, because their isn't much soil on top of the compacted rock, they weren't two deep, with the exception of two.. When looking at my pictures, you can imagine the clearence. I had water when I dropped into some ruts come over the hood momentarily, but then leveled out near the top of the tires... which was high enough to wet the engine, but not high enough to stall it out via the distributor.. just barrelled right through it. Another hole, I was doing very well, just going right along, and the back end drops into a hole... just nailed it and got out of there..

All in all, it was BLAST!!! we had a great time camping, and relaxing.. Weather was PERFECT too...

Take a look at some pics..

First Pic is the side of the brat at the camp site out in the middle of nowhere..

Next Pic is of the sign at the "Jeep" trail (hah, did not see any, I think it was too tough for them !)

Awesome Overlook, from a Rock Outcropping off side of trail

I had a leak from tire at that point, at the rim... think I got a stone chip wedged in there, no fix a flat, but spare and pump.. did not need to change it.. slow leak...kept going..

One of the "Baby" Mud obstacles.. this is nothing compared to the ones I navigated.. but wife did not want to get out of brat and take "action" shots...!!!

AND you have no lifted subes, mark,..

I have 6inch lifted camo brat, with weber, 2 and 1/4 cat-less exhaust, Super Stock Coil, 8mm wires... gapped NGK's to .050

anyways...

Justy to be lifted by spring, at least a two inch lift to shove 185/80/R13's under there...

NIce looking Brat. Love the camo. Dig seeing these offroad and not parked in a driveway.

heh, maybe sometime we'll have to join ya in the hatch... still debating on gettin rid of it or not..

heh that mud hole was tiny compared to the one i've been through in my hatch.., we gotta find deeper mud hehe..

looks like ya had fun though, very nice place by the looks of the pics too :headbang:

speakin of circles, my hatch could deffinitely run circles around the "munster" hehe

I agree, nice looking Brat.

Eric - To see my brat sitting in my driveway is an offroad adventure. We've been here 9 years and only had 2 visitirs make it to the top of the drive - one was the Jehovah's Witnesses, and the other was a local politician running for reelection. You'd have to be desparate or devoted to want to come up where I live, or own a Subbie and like to play in the snow.

Looking good - hope we see some knarly tires on it soon? I like the camo paint job - and with those all-terrains it looks like an urban assualt vehicle. Something you would see in mogadishu or something. hehe

You need a .50 cal for the back....

GD

those brats seem to look good with a "army" feel to them, olive drab or camo, real sharp, that may be just what i needed to push me over the top to camo my car.

 at Matt,

Jehovah's witnesses and politicians, that figures! I gotta see this driveway sometime, it sounds like a lot of fun. A friend of mine in Haines has a similar driveway, except it's downhill to their house and you can't get OUT once you're there if it's too icy. I think I might have mentioned that to you before, but I don't remember.

Ditto on the "army" brats lookin' good. But I think I'll paint my next "just for fun" soob like the bus on Sobe's "Love Bus Brew" bottles, black with bright green flames!

good lookin camo..

I think Arctic camo is more my type.. in due time... in due time..

It actually does handle the offroad better than the old 3 dr.!!

That 3dr I had was the S**t. I was the first here in the states that I know of, to have a 3 inch on a 3dr coupe. I loved that car, and bought a friggin jeep cherokee that was a pain in the but, and sold the 3dr to John from Indiana.. Glad he got it,, but I wish I would have never sold it..

I was out of the Suby hobby for a while, until last Jan. when I bought the "bushbrat" from Bill her in Portsmouth... he had the lift most of the way finished, I had to build adjustable strut tops, shifter linkages, and firm up some stuff. and bill has been a big help too.. we just put coil overs under the back end, when my torsion spring broke.. It has a much better load capacity now, and it drives very well.

Anyways.. the 3dr went down Shoe creek near crabtree falls., anybody who knows about the George Washington National Forest her in Western Virginia, knows about that area.. really rocky, muddy and fun... never took it to big levels tho, and now big levels is worse than shoe creek because of all the flash flooding, etc.. Also, 3dr would tear the beach up down at the outer banks, but my brat does it so much better!!!,,, just floats by it all, and nice to see people stare and give thumbs up all the time.

anyways.. thanks for the compliments.

Liked my License Plate? Sube-4x4.. my little justy says Sube-4wd

hows that?

see ya.

take a look at those pictures again..

that was two weeks ago (the weekend before thanksgiving).. we had shorts on during the day when it warmed up, and the weather was so beautiful.

Now look....

The blue ridge is sitting in 6-8 inches of snow..!!!!

Virginia is a funny state with the weather sometimes..

last week, I left here (Va Beach), it was 71 degrees on friday afternoon, and I was wearing shorts... I got to Interstate 81 out by roanoke (about 250 miles west of Va Beach), and it was freaking snowing!!!! and I was still wearing shorts!!!!.. that cold front came in and it was a shock! last saturday morning it must have been 20 - 25 degrees with wind gusts from helll... chapped my damn lips and face being outside... I know.. that is nothing compared to Alaska and some northern states,, but that was only one day later from wearing shorts!!

anyways..

Scott, I need to drive up to N.Va. to get together... next time I goto the Luray area, I'll drop by to say hi, or next time to D.C.
