Qman
I used the digital camera to record the new exhaust on the '85 Brat. I had a real nice tuned system made for it. It consists of 26" header pipes @1.75" into a collector @2.125" which goes into 2.25" pipe through a magnaflow muffler and chrome tip. My master mechanic and overseer says that it is an absolute work of art. Take a listen and let me know what you think. BTW, the first one is at idle and no, the new engine doesn't have a miss. That is the cam loping. '85 album Two clips at the bottom of the page.

Turbone
Ok, now what you need to do is tape the camera to the bumper and make a run up and down the street:D That way we can hear it going thru the gears:grin: Rob
GeneralDisorder
Rob - you hold the camera. I want to see this thing move GD

Qman
Probably the 5sp conversion next. I don't really like the gearing in the 4sp. Everything else is good as gold though. You'll all see it at the RallyX's.
Turbone
Ok, I think I can handle the hold. Nothing wrong with my hands. Rob
bajavwnsoobnut
man too bad all the comps here at work don't have soundcards (unless someone wants to call me and play the clip for me ) but that will be nice to see at the rallyX's and Ken I agree with the gearing in the 4 speeds (imagine hearing my motor either screaming it's heads off in 1st or bogging in 2nd on the course around corners, darn 57hp )

Subarutex
SOunds very good. I had the pleasure of getting a ride in it on Sat. Its pretty darn quick for a brat. Any car that has a cam lope at idle is A.O.K. in my book.
the_bard
First: That sounds sweet . Second: I want one too. Third: Just what the heck's a cam lope? *sigh*
Qman
I'm not sure how to explain it but it is a sound the engine makes when it has a large camshaft and higher compression.
syphon
I think the best way to describe is to imagine older Muscle cars.. when they sound really aggressive but the engine always sounds like its about to die.
Subarutex
well... on a muscle car its usually a wump wump wump wump wump sound I don't know, its hard to explain entirely.
Nug
Cam lope=lopey idle=a lot of cam overlap, causing gas reversion at low engine speeds. Both valves are open a longer than stock amount of time. You've got exhaust gasses mixing with fresh fuel charge, maybe some exhaust making it up into the intake, and some unburned fuel going out the exhaust. This equals a lumpy idle. "Why do this?" you ask. Well, it can equal a lot of horsepower at higher engine speeds. You know all the noise a big horsepower v-8 makes at idle? That lumpy nasty sound? Followed by a defiant roar when the throttle is mashed? Same thing, little motor.
Qman
That's a decent explanation.
Nug
Sorry about the little motor comment. Anyway, for more idle lope, click here. http://www.youngsperformance.com/images/videos/ypchdyno1.WMV
djbroadus
I think mine is louder, once I get my new headers on I'll try to post a sound clip. It would have been done today but the jackarse wasn't there.
Qman
No problem Snot... It is a little motor.
