Backwoodsboy's ROUGH-TERRAIN engine hoist

Featured Replies

Ok boys and girls,

At last its here.... the perfect solution to the age old problem.

How do you pull an engine out of a car in the "back 40" ??

Here she is.... the fully mobile, rough-terrain engine hoisting system.

Adjustable angle of the swing arm via increase/decrease of chain length....

and the winch does all the work! (all handily removable with a couple of pins and clips for on-road use) *sigh*

Actually, the tractor is my Dads.

I was changing engines like underwear for a while there, and was getting sick of "owing him one" every time I borrowed it. :-\

My brat is much more nimble anyway

Well, its a excellent idea.

I might just rig something up like that for my Hatch.

I had to move a EG33 from the back of my yard the other day and without a concrete driveway it was no fun pushing a engine hoist around with 500lbs swinging from it :-\

500

well, now i think of it, the car is like 4200 so that might be about right.

Thats a rough estimate.

It actually feels like 700lbs :-\

I have moved it on the ground by hand, just to get it close enough to the hoist. Its a good thing I'm built like a tank

close to the ground?

thats a pretty neat idea... before even viewing I imagined a simlar thing but off of the BACK end of a brat. This is probably more maneuverable this way though.

That's cool. I have a friend that made a custom lift arm on the front of his 96 GMC diesel pick up. It hooks up to the plow gear and works great.

that is one sweet machine...I need one of those to move my old 300 wildcat motor from the back 40 and to snag my 425 caddy motor to install in my 64 buick.......:banana::banana:

That is just awesome. I've been wanting to do that sort of thing for years.

Looks like I won't need to though. I just have to wait until your Brat is mine.

I wouldnt expect any less from you John... I have seen first hand your.... redneckiness..hehehehehe

Wow it's about time you posted the finished product up. It was really hard to keep myself from telling Connie, Rob and Neo about it. Just wish I was there when you tested her out. Looks good.

I like it!!! Looks quite handy.. I've "engineered" a few engine hoist myself over the years, nothing like that though. Nice....

nice, now you gotta bring that down my way to help me sort out my brat, lol

That's great! I have been toying with the ides of getting an old beater truck and attaching a engine hoist to the bed, but I like your idea better! I don't even need to find a beater truck.
