  1. 300 is no big deal. It's basically stage "2" on an STi. 400 is getting up there a bit and can be squirrelly if you aren't accustomed. About 500 is where things get a bit scary - especially if it's setup right and spools at a decent RPM. Beyond 500 you really can't use it on the street anyway so it's honestly not that much different. Also you break things.... a lot. I just read through that.... a 2.0 with a TD04 twin scroll?? I have never heard of a TD04 with a twin scroll. It wouldn't need to be a twin scroll with a TD04 as those tiny turbo's spool very quickly. Almost to the point that there's very little perceptible turbo lag. You have pictures or a web listing for this engine you got? Because if it's a TD04 I'm betting it's NOT a twin scroll, and even if it was.... that's not going to make anywhere close to 300 WHP. It's going to be more like 260 turned up to the max with that little baby turbo. IMO.... Sounds like this guy has no clue what he's doing. What is he using for management? GD

  2. I will file the area with a small diamond points file and then use some emery cloth and scotch brite. Honestly scratches aren't that big of a deal as long as you ensure no rough burrs or raised edges that will damage the seal. GD

  3. Cut up a credit card, jam in between seal and snout, pry all you want with screwdriver.

  4. Try just using a large flat-head screwdriver, or you can drill tiny holes in the seal, thread in some small screws, and use pliers to work them out. The lisle tool is great for some applications but honestly those applications usually aren't Subaru's. Much like the rear main - shouldn't have touched them. The Viton is pretty much a lifetime seal on a well-maintained engine. Only time I've seen them fail is due to excessive carbon and sludge in the oil - leading to scoring of the shaft and abrasion of the seal lip. GD

  5. Paul, you got any nice sheet metal for the front valance of a '75? Any fun accessories for that vintage? Wood shift knobs?

  6. Didn't get one marked NOK - but got one that looks like NOS from czny , otherwise the seal looks identical to the stock one - and everything looks right including the little angled "oil deflection ridges" going towards the lip, which I assume "pushes" oil back towards the motor? (I - was NOT impressed with O'riely's "National" generic with no "deflection ridges" . The crankshaft seal from czny looks just like the cam seals I got out the 20 year old "last gen" box of seals a reputable full time "Subaru only" mechanic I was considering for this job (Raffi Motors ), he's the one offered to do it all for $1000, and said that's more than the cars worth.. probably true - but if I get another 100k (or more without major problems) I'll be real happy! Here's how I seated the seal.. got it level and flush with the case - used the old seal as a spacer while I very slowly turned the ratchet with my other thumbnail in the gap (at the edge) between the pair of seals and double thick reader glasses watching it move. and I KNOW it's level!

  7. Sent a private message. I have most parts manuals you’ll need.

  8. I installed the insert bushings today. My original bushings were completely wasted, the centers were torn from the outer rubber entirely. I was not able to tell which side of the new bushing was the top or bottom. So I installed one with the two fingers on top and one with the fingers at the bottom. I did trim them slightly to fit, and greased them liberally. Both went in easy and my diff is now solid as a rock and the thump noise is gone. Awesome fix that took very little time to complete.

  10. Yeah, Skip, what happened to that guy?! I know one of the really active members with the Mega Squirted EA82T gen 1 BRAT passed away, can't remember his board name...

  11. Main guy I am stiff curious about is Skip. I know he had his wife and best friend pass away close in time and he’s been in Florida. If anyone hears anything please post.

  12. Pardon me for stating we are founding members. I think Todd was before me and I came in a little after but Billy C was the founder. Don’t want to take any credit for that. Shawn is our hero who has managed the reigns and was also super early on the USMB.

  13. When the USMB finally dies out completely - people will just have to call my shop and hope I'm available and in the mood to deal with questions. I have mostly stopped answering the phone because of the telemarketing calls. I get enough of the social media from having a "fakebook" page for my shop (and soon instagripe and snapchit as well I'm sure). I can't stand all the advertising on the social media and the huge waste of time it is to see pictures of what other people had for lunch and the general minutia of their daily lives. I DONT CARE. Also the learned helplessness of the masses. Jeezus. It's just a side-show of foolishness and a giant look-at-me contest. There's no value in it for me. I frequent other applicable car forums besides this one - mostly Chevy stuff. There's still some pretty active ones for the old American iron - most of those old codgers wouldn't consider making the switch to social media platforms. GD

  14. they don't do that very often, so it's not common or as familiar as the typical outer joint clicking. yep - avoid aftermarket axles. buy from subaru or reboot OEM axles. www.car-part.com

  15. I'm still resisting the allure of FB. I may give-in at some point . I dunno how groups even 'work' on FB. I check subaruoutback.org several times a day. I have felt that a good merger could be USMB and Scoobymods . I occasionally look-in at NASIOC I also check the newsgroup every month or 2.
