  1. He's trying to resolve a chronic "pinging" issue; he's down to thinking of trying to get the carbon out of the engine.
  2. The three lights coming on usually indicate that the diode trio in the alternator have failed (not the main diodes that supply the current output). Sometimes you just have to chalk this type of failure to bad luck. However, I once had a battery with an intermittent internal open (not short) that caused two good alternators to fail (sorry I can't remember if it was the diode trio that went out or just no output). This can happen inadvertantly if you disconnect the battery while the car is running; or if there is a really bad connection at one of the battery terminals or at the other end of both ground and positive wires. Make sure everything is tight and clean.
  3. Stopped at Lynnwood today to find an '89 FWD Legacy LS and a '90 FWD Legacy L in the yard. The '89 is a dark blue sedan and the L is a red sedan. The LS was probably running just fine since it had extensive damage to both passenger side doors.
  4. I picked up some parts for my Brat today from I-5 Wrecking in Napavine, WA (just off exit 71 of the interstate). They have an '86 Brat with about 150K miles which was hit in the right rear corner. I suspect the engine and tranny are both okay since this was a working truck (carpenter type work). Condition was as good as any I've seen in a long time with no obvious rust anywhere. I got the tailgate, bed trim, front bumper and left rear tail-light, but front fenders, doors, hood, running gear and everything else is still there and intact. Their prices are more than fair for a non-PAP yard (I picked up 4 alloy wheels off a '96 Legacy for $140 plus tax). Brat is dark blue in color. Any other information you need, call them at 1-800-551-4489.
  5. Keep it. Like northguy said it's not costing anything right now. And it will be invaluable as a backup car later when you need to put some repair time into your daily driver.
  6. It is on the early EA81s and EA82s; not sure about the XT6. You need to remove the inner door panel on the passenger side and with a flashlight and small inspection mirror you should be able to read the keycode.
  7. Super pro bushings fit with the steel sleeve gone.
  8. Paul, as the saying goes, "life goes on." Remember your friend for the good times you shared and don't dwell on the fact that he's passed on.
  9. Heck no, they're not standard seats. They sure look comfy. So what if they're another shade of blue.
  10. Oh, I don't know about that; I was called that before I knew what it meant. I have mellowed with age however--founding member of MCA (sort of like AA, but you can still drink:grin: .
  11. Looking at the missing console....I've got the rare slanted console available for you; it's the right color too. You can mount a standard DIN radio into the Brat with that. PS: I still have that water pump if you need it too.
  12. Pat, I'm glad the deal finally paid off; perseverance pays off again. Best of luck with it. What color is it?
  13. The '82 Brat's tail-lights are unique to that year only; and to Brat models only. Sorry. Yes there are black brats around; altho I'm not sure they came out in '82; '84 for sure. Interior and seats are same as the Hatch or wagon of the early '80's. Headlights are unique to '82 and '83 but 7" rectangular are not hard to find; '84 got the quad headlights. Rear bumpers are unique to brats. Some early front bumpers will fit your '82 providing the have the correct brackets and not the pneumatic type. Doors and front fenders match the Hatch model; fenders also match the wagons but antenna is mounted on the other side.
  14. Unless you have a DL brat; dash will interchange, not sure of the instrument cluster.
  15. I've never quite understood why, but the HC test for emissions doesn't see oil. Take if from someone who had a car that was burning a quart every 250 miles and passed! Lesbaru, you're in good hands with Smart Service. There's a low cost option in south Seattle that you can try, but I suspect you have a mechanical problem like an O2 sensor.
  16. My son bought a EA81 from them for his Brat about 7 years ago; still running strong. CCR is a first class operation in all respects.
  17. That's odd; I spoke to Brian just a few weeks ago and he's still working there as of now. He says they've increased their workload of Subarus significantly with the new owner due to sensible advertising.
  18. I'm with everyone else, keep the Imp. Really clean up the Brat and put it on ebay if it doesn't sell on the USMB for a decent price. Ebay prices are just nuts lately. I might have a trailer for you if you need one; I'd lend it to you for the move but getting it back would be a hassle.
  19. Some interesting pics of the supercharger in the red Legacy.
  20. You might consider rebuilding your distributor; check out http://www.philbingroup.com.
  21. I just packed a 3.900 open diff (EA82) for shipping. Box is 23"x12"x11" and the total weight is 55 lbs.
  22. Hey, I'll be shipping one of these soon and will weigh it more accurately than with a bathroom scale.
  23. I just weighed one my home scale and it came out close to 70 lbs I think. Add packing box and packing and we are over the magic weight.
  24. Not a problem; you offered price not quick delivery. Thanks again for doing this. ---ed---
  25. Really weird, but I didn't recognize you. It must have been the lighting. I did okay in the rallycross but wasn't really happy with my times. I should have known it was you; it didn't occur to me until I remembered your car was red. It looked like your girlfriend was sleeping....long ride to Bellingham.
