My BRAT is stuck in a 5 foot drift
bheinen74 replied to bheinen74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It should break free whre it sits now, but i have to dig out the road behind it, yeah it should break free if i had longer tow rope. I am going to go see if the plow got anycloser. if the plow got like just 20 ft more, i could hook on the recovery strap and see. also, if i hadnt have burn up the clutch, i think it would back out possibly. silly me they always seem to go at the worst time. -

clutch is toast. there is a white lifted Chev truck stuck right next to it now. They tried to go around, and now they are stuck, even worse than me. plows went out to about 40 feet from the back, in which the 6 foot drift sits. they did not plow the front, so the only way out is the back. need a snow blower to clear that path. It will have to be pulled home when it comes out of the drift, due to clutch.. -

I am leaving it til the morning. Maybe in the daylight tomorrow AM, and if the snow stops blowing, someone will see me shoveling it out and come with a truck. maybe the plow will do the road up to it on both ends so i can get closer. its bad out and no use in risking frost bite to do it now. I doubt the plows will be out til morning on that road anyhow. just hope when they do go, they can see my BRAT. i just hope i didnt toast the clutch, maybe i did tho. Had to take something for the pain in the knee, all i had in the cabinet was tylenol pm, so i guess i will be off to sleep soon, and will report back in the AM. -

just so everyone knows, I am home safe but the Brat is still down the road stuck. It's on my own road at the edge of town where they don't plow. I am inside warm, but it sucks the car is so close yet stuck. I did a number on my knee. -

i know. the road has gotten lots worse since i was on it, its entirely drifted shut now. conditions outside are really bad, and the wind chill is like -25 or worse now. also, when the come along busted, the hook end came back and whacked my knee really good, and it is hurting to walk on it. If the road wasnt entirely drifted, i would go back to shovel. even if i shovel it out of the snow drift its in, the rest of the road is now unpassable. waiting til the morning so i can see what i am doing. -
I will have to get pics later. I got within about 30 feet of it with my white car, and broke the come-along trying to winch her out. Its on my road down by the cemetary. I called the town plow driver and left a message, hope they dont come try to plow and not see it. Think i roasted the clutch too. Will attempt recovery tomorrow.

some nice work. looks like a one of a kind build, that looks to be coming along nicely so far. If you ever want to do more fabrication, I would love a roll bar for my BRAT, that still fits under my topper, and maybe a front custom bumper. Great work for Mick. This is goning to be pretty kick butt trail rig.

ea 81 dash speaker upgrade 3"-3.5" ?
bheinen74 replied to scoobyclimbs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've got 4X6 for both fronts in my BRAT. They were free came from my old infinitiG20 parts car, they are pioneers. The one on driver side is wedged in there sideways, not even using the factory mount bracket with like one nut holding it in place. the passenger side has 3 of the 4 nuts holding it...sounds way better than the old dryed out stock speakers. I still have the factory AM/FM radio and it rocks. Advice: put in the passenger side one first, cause it is a easier install/cobble job. You will figure out things on that one that will benefit the driver side install, cause it sits crooked on the driver side. -

this thread is entirely worthless w/o pics -
They should have a computer to llokup and get you the correct battery. just make sure the new battery has the terminals located the same position. if the posts are nearer one side and on the top, make sure the replacement is also located exact. I have had times when the posts on the battery are on the top, but centered (not off to the side) and the cables would not reach... There are top posts there are side posts top posts can be to the side or placed in the center. , and if they are nearer the edge, you need to get the same. + positive terminals and -negative terminals sometimes are reversed too.

did the wheel go off on a cool bounce down the road. How far did you have to go to retrieve it. -
Gen 2 BRAT featured on Jalopnik

even the author of the write up is not really informed (ie did not do much resarch) about the Brat. -
i just went down a level B service road a while ago, heated driver seat was getting nice and toasty.....mmmmmm, heater worked excellent too. some drifts were max about a foot. otherwise i would say like 4 inches snow fell today.

just went out now to the BRAT, which is in a very cold non heated garage. pumped pedal as turned key, gave 3 pumps, started right off. smoothly backed it out, engaging 4wd lever. it is now warming up at idle, i came back in. I am just going to go like 4 blocks to the bar for a drink. might take the cam to get some pics, still snowing. I can hear the boxer running still.
