fnlyfnd replied to Rice Burner's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust an update: 20A fuse was blown, boy was I happy to see that. Although, now the question is why did it blow??

Inner CV Boot
Mine ripped on me about 1.5wks ago. I've been driving it w/ no concerns in the rain and dusty roads, since I am going to be swapping in a mwe axle. I don't want to go through the process of swapping the boot. It is much easier to pull 3 bolts and a roll pin to put in a new axle. My axle has ~130k on it, so a new axle should last me (I hope).

Inner CV boot
My pass side inner boot ripped today. The tear is about 2" long, it just happened. I am going to replace the axle with a reman in the near future, but my question is; is it ok to drive for now ~1 week in the rain, highway, etc...?? Biggest question - Highway 4hrs in the rain?

fnlyfnd replied to ericem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere is actual MAF cleaner. Just use ngk cheap copper plugs, I didn't think platinums worked well with our engine. It has been discussed endlessly, a quick search would yield good info

Relocating knock sensor
fnlyfnd replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI re-gapped my plugs, well 3 of them, the last on requires more effort. I gapped em at like .42ish. It seemed to help, I also ran a bottle of techron. I'll prolly run another bottle after I fill up with some mobil gas. Every once and a while it will stumble, but I think it's getting better.

Relocating knock sensor
fnlyfnd replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo I guess I am pinging. I relocated it, just to actually hear the pinging occur. SOB, I have no idea why it is pinging. It only pings in the 2-3k rpm range, seemed to happen more often when I floored it in 3rd gear, going kinda slow. I don't know what to do. I'll prolly bring it in in a couple weeks. What do you guys think? All possibile tune up items have been done in the past 10k (wires - oem, plugs - ngk vpower, fuel filter, front 02, air filter, pcv, seafoam, tbelt, clutch, and all seals besides HG).

Relocating knock sensor
fnlyfnd replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm pulling it tom. so we'll see. I've seafoamed it a couple times (intake and fuel), so carbon should be at a minimum.

Relocating knock sensor
fnlyfnd replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts a common problem of being over-sensitive, so essentially it's not doing its job. The picture is not mine, I haven't relocated yet.

Relocating knock sensor
Does this really work, and can it be a permanent fix. I have had a slight stumble for awhile now between 2000-3000 rpms. '96 2.2 5mt new plugs, wires, filters, 02 sensor, clean maf. It feels like the timming is being retarded, ie: lack of fuel. I was really thinking it was a fuel problem but I've been doing a lot of reading abouth this knock sensor problem. So I am wondering how safe/dangerous it would be to relocate it to the clutch bracket thing, for the rest of time?

I think I know whats wrong
fnlyfnd replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI let the silicone cure almost the entire appropriate 48hrs (it was cold out). So, I think that the little bit of fumes that may have reached the O2 sensor threw it out of line just enough to mess with the idle. Since, I believe, the O2 sensor was already on its way out (the slight stumble at light throttle). I ordered a new O2 sensor so I willl know for sure in a few days. No, I am not just throwing parts at my car. I wanted to replace the O2 sensor when I did the reseal but that extra $100 was just too much at that time. So I am doing it now.
