  1. I've seen a few types in catalogs/magazines. The first is "Dynamat" and is supposed to be a sound deading/insulator. It's listed in the Eastwood catalog or @ eastwood.com. Eastwood also has a 2nd generic? brand called "The Insulator". Both sets have various sizes/kits you can buy. The 3rd one I've seen is called "Boom Mat". There is a write up in the december issue of Four Wheeler Magazine that the authors use for their interior overhaul project. I have not done an online search for Boom Mat yet, but Four Wheeler magazine lists "attitudeperformance.com" and "sylinconcepts.com" Start there. I'm planning on using these sound deadeners/heat & cold insulators on my Brat's floor then coat the entire thing with the Herculiner I snagged at a closeout sale. Hopefully, not only will this solve some noise issues & heat issues but waterproof the interior as well. Hope this helps.
  2. Thanks for the link to the write up, that will definitely help... What's a good place online for the cables? There is no dealer in my area that I could buy a cable from...
  3. I know this is an older post...but the same thing happened with my '86 Brat...I've removed the cable, gut only after I'd tightened the clutch adjustment and I know it's about to break...but it doesn't matter because even with the adjustment as tight as I can get it-the clutch didn't work work...suggestions? Ordered a cable from the partsbin...you would know they were out of stock...now I am trying to find another place to order from (that's what I am doing looking up all these older posts for.....)....suggestions?
  4. I'd be up for the 14" or maybe the 15" for 300-400....in the offroad version...
  5. I know how you feel...very few of use in the South/Southeast....
  6. Now that is some serious subaru obession! :banana:Welcome to the board!
  7. That's a mixed up situation....but at least the guy was straight with you and not a jerk...
  8. There we have it! :clap:Thanks McBrat for the hook up on the link...I searched for 3 days and nights-literally every spare moment I had but never could find it & several of the links would not work...finally found my printed copy but I felt certain others on here would need the info... You did the research/page link originally? Thanks, it's helped me. So there it is fellow members-take off to the link as needed from here... And hey, I won't have to edit my posts on the subject now...because my typing stinks!
  9. This was originally under "Brat Links" & was called the "Subaru Brat Encyclopedia" I'll repost it all here for whomever wants it; apologies to the person that originally did the work I have no idea who you are. I did not do the research myself so if you find any msitakes feel free to post the corrections here! 78-81 "Gen-1" Introduced August 1977 as a 1978 model same front end style as other 1978-79 subarus DL had single headlights Gl had quad headlights 78 had '4 wheel drive" spelled out on grill emblem 79-81 had "4WD" grille emblem 78-81 had jump seats 78-80 all had EA71 1600 motor & single range 4WD tranny 81 DL had EA71 1600 motor & single range 4WD tranny 81 GL had EA81 1800 motor & dual range 4WD tranny Doors interchange with 2 door coupes/sedans from 78-79 (maybe earlier too) no door glass interchange 78-81 tailgates interchange 78-81 al had solid front rotors More to come later on the "Gen 2"
  10. I just finished retyping the three pages of info from that link, then as I posted it the site had disconnected me because I had been inactive for too long...if anyone wants it PM me and I will email it to you, I'll retype it on here later...right now I'm not in the mood so I'll get back to it....:-\
  11. I found what I was looking for...the link was dead on here, it's the 'Subaru Brat Encyclopedia'...that's what I get for causing my girlfriend to be interested in Soobs...she had the printout at her place & I didn't know it! Hey, I can't complain..she even helps me when I do JY runs!
  12. Hey Tommy, I bought your '82 Brat-It's stored in a garage to keep her from rusting anymore until I get into serious body work...I'm still looking for a driver's side door, The problem with the hood latch turned out to be the hinge being rusted apart and I'm on the lookout for another hinge/hood that will work, and it seems the clutch is going out...not a big deal to fix the clutch, I have just been searching for a door & hood hinge to fit it in my area with no luck....few Brats in Ky! I've been spending most of my time working on my '86 Brat because it was driving well...I'm making JY runs this weekend to the KY/Tenn border and down into Tenn to some Yards (4 total) that I know have older soobs...hopefully I can turn up a driver door for the '82!
  13. I'm looking for a link to the page that has what body panels, doors, headlights, tailgates, basically everything that is interchangable on Brats and other Soobs. I've seen it before & even printed off a copy-but in my move I've misplaced it...& now I cannot find the link...I've looked everywhere-even in links & I did a search and found a post titled 'Parts needed in W. State' by 84Brat...but that is all...anyone know where these pages are??? I'm making a JY run this week on my vacation to JY's in my area and one or two other states and this would be helpful. Thanks
  14. I've also seen pics where the interior is stripped of everything, floorboard down to bare metal-dynamat applied and then the herculiner or tuff stuff applied over that. I'm planning on this approach (when I get the money) so I will not have to worry about water on the carpet...& I've heard, but never seen pics of the liner being applied to the dash to cover all those small or large cracks that have formed...
  15. I've thought about using something similar to Tuff Bed liner on my Brat-I've heard mixed things about it...some say it's great for preventing rust and stopping scratched & dings...then some claim it adds too much weight. What about applying it? How does it do with a sprayer, or is it totally roll-on?
  16. I've found prices vary, here in the South & East of the US, you'll find more rusted versions-but we'll still pay...For what you described, I've seen Brats go for as little as $800 great shape, and several for much, much more... it really depends on how bad someone wants to sell and how much you want it...I'm sure some of the members near you and in surrounding states will be able to tell you more specifics on the going price in your area.
  17. Checked out your other posts....nice 79 DL...the pics fire me up to go and talk the JY guy into selling me the one I found in his yard....
  18. It is possible the stamping is difficult to read, I will check it out yet again tomarrow. I have seen pics of the "DGAV32 & 32/36" and it does resemble those. I'll check out the links & see if I can get some clear pics tomarrow then post them...Thanks for the tips:headbang:
  19. I've read through this post, and some of the links. I am new to carbs...my brat has a weber installed on it...has great gas milage-28mpg, but my engine "diesels" when shut off, I also lose power and the engine "misses" in damp and/or cold weather, especially on large hills. Here is my question, my weber says "DGAV33" (could be DGAV 38 if the stamps are on top of each other...but we'll go with the 33) Where do I find info, diagrams, parts for this weber? I have looked on the web and not had any luck today! Thanks
  20. Trust me, it only gets worse...I now can spot subarus through tree cover and behind garages like crazy....and each and every one I want to get, regardless of it's condition so I'll have parts or be able to salvage it one day....I just found a '78 or '79 Brat in a Junk Yard here and it is killing me....I need a garage! I am running out of places to put them and work on them...(Must find way to get that '79 Brat....must find way....)
  21. I've tried to download this PDF from all of the listed links...no luck, even when I did get one zip file it stated is was "not valid"...do not think it is my computer... How about sending me the email account you had created for this reason? I'll keep trying off of the other links as well.
  22. Now this is a cool idea..I've been looking into various options for a Brat like this...There is a site that makes campers for smaller trucks, and they have "bare bones" shells that you can customize...I'll have to find the link later...they are rather expensive though. My though was pretty much like the westfallia idea on my Brat....need a place to sleep and keep gear....figured I could fashion a storage compartment the lengtht of the bed of the brat and mount the camper top onto it....just an idea...
  23. Parts List? An official parts list to your subaru? Where did you get it & how do I go about getting one for my subarus as well???
  24. So what became of this project? I am interested to see the Brat so far!
