leaking gas tank
seanski06 replied to seanski06's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXim hoping its the filler neck....still didnt get to look yet.....although it was coming from the top of the tank....maybe it was just run-off that i seen im going to look in my haynes manuel for a diagram of the fuel storage system...do u think its the same for a legacy and impreza? haha b/c my manual is for a legacy...cant seem to find any for imprezas does anyone know how the gas tank is connected to the car? wouldnt there be some kind of sealer between the car and the brim of the tank i wish i had more time to mess with the car....my g/f's car is acting up too...loud ticking noise...faster as rev'd that'll be another thread with a sound clip...once i get the time im gonna check the oil...maybe that could cause it? ha i still appreciate all this help....that vac idea sounds good for me....as long as it wouldnt mess with anything or cause me to inhale toxic fumes and die...i remember someone having the filler pipe problem awhile back...they even had a picture of all the road salt packed in there

leaking gas tank
since i bought this car i have always had to deal with the raw fuel smell...however today i noticed a puddle of gas on the ground where i previously parked the car......looked under the gas tank and witness gas pouring out of the top of tank (where it meets the car) to the ground...soaking everything in site.....what should i do? is there a gasket that is between the tank and car that could be replaced? i guess i can do some research but i figure i'll post it for some reply's from someone who this might of happened to before....or for someone who this is happening to now keywords: gas tank fuel leak smell

13" wheels for Impreza??
seanski06 replied to edrach's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi've got a set...actually two sets and i think they should clear your brakes......dont take my word for it....but when i got replacement pads for the car i got the brake pads for a 13" wheel (b/c thats what it has)...took them home and they didnt fit...so i called back napa and said they dont fit..we couldnt figure it out, so then i asked him to measure the 14" wheel pads with a ruler and they were the same measurement as the ones that were currently on the car.....so i guess the calipers that are on the car are also the same calipers for a 14" wheel, well at least the pads are for sure note: this is coming from a 93 FWD impreza L.....so maybe since its FWD it is equipped with better front brakes...i dunno? hope u could understand this^

bumper filler? cv axles? fiberglass?
seanski06 replied to seanski06's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXtheres definately nothing i could do about it??? haha i actually bought the bumper like that to see if i could fix it....what do you think would be my best bet at making it work..what about epoxy or bondo Link with pictures: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1044016 its so hard to find these things cheap, or to find them at all...and impossible to find at the junkyards around here

bumper filler? cv axles? fiberglass?
i got a couple of questions 1) what should i use to fill and smooth a hole in my front bumper? epoxy?bondo? fiberglass resin? theres gotta be something that wont crack and pop out when flexed 2) will RS front axles work on 2.2 impreza L? both AWD both standard anyone do this before...im going to replace my axles and found some rs ones 3) i picked up a cheap carbon fiber hood b/c its cracked and all banged up....so i figured i would reinforce the places that its cracked to strengthen it up...and then sand it and paint it b/c its all banged up and i dont like the look of carbon fiber..... i'll try to post some pics of the areas that need attention....but basically its a fiberglass hood with a CF top layer....it cracked and now the FG base is exposed, so i thought i would just dump alot of resin into the broken up FG to strength'n it..and then add a sheet or two of FG underneath it too...maybe this is too hard to explain in words....i'll try to take pics and just ask how u would do it

cv boot just tore..to fix or not to fix?
seanski06 replied to seanski06's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyeah i've heard something about that split boot thing too....whats the deal with it?? any link? i guess i could always search it im going to see if i can take the parts back on monday....if they dont take them back for any dumb reason then i will be screwing around with my balljoint untill it lets go thanks for the different perspectives....i was hoping that this was get some attention...my car has over 198k miles....i guess when i install my rs suspension i'll just replace the half shaft instead of dealing with the mess and misery of taking apart the cv joint maybe i'll go to the junkyard on monday and take one apart if i think its pretty bearable....then i'll do it to my car, but if i start loosing ************ like ball bearings or little snap rings or w/e is in there....then i'll wait

cv boot just tore..to fix or not to fix?
the other day i noticed my rim was all muddy....took a closer look and realized my outer boot tore and dumped grease all over my wheel.... well i bought a replacement boot, grease and weird clamps from the subaru dealership for over 25 bucks......i started browsing through the haynes book for replacing boots....and it looks like a whole lot of work.....i have a 96 impreza L AWD with almost 199k on it...and i know for sure that its not going to be fun trying to break the bolts holding my steering knuckle....i've never replaced an axle or had to pop a ball joint....but like i said it looks like its gonna suck for just a torn boot you guys have done it all before....are there any easier ways to do this job that i should know of ?? or how would you recommend me changing this boot...i talked to a couple of friends bout it and they just say let it go till it breaks...which sure who cares if its not their car...but i figured 25 bucks is better than whatever a used axle would cost and still having to do all the work..... let me know what you think...or what you've done...as far as keeping water and dirt out of the joint thats not going to happen.....im constantly driving on dusty dirty roads and the past couple days that its been torn has been nothing but rainy/hail stone weather....and yes wouldnt you know i had to take a 100 miles trip back and forth in the storm the same day the boot tore thanks in advanced -sean
