How to Lift your Legacy without a Lift Kit
86BRATMAN replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would run away from that idea so damn fast it'd make that trick Superman did back in the 80's look tame...

Exhaust leak on 97 Legacy. Big $$$$. I'm torn on what to do.
86BRATMAN replied to Nbe1210's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe thing I've always considered, sure a $1000 repair is a lit to eat at one shot. But then again the average car payment these days is $300, so its either keep your old vehicle running and drop some money on it every 6 months to a year or say the hell with it and drop $4-500 a month on something new. When you really put it into perspective you can see what is the most economical choice to make.

How to Lift your Legacy without a Lift Kit
86BRATMAN replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFrom what I have read 96-99 outbacks use the same springs as their legacy counterparts. But the struts give the lift, add on some 98-03 forester springs for an additional 1-1.5 inches, only drawback with this is you must use forester top hats and strut mounts because the springs are tapered different. The lift blocks are all well and good but you are greatly limited by the rear struts as to what size tires you can run. Outback rear struts can clear up to a ~29 inch tire, 98-03 forester rears cannot run bigger than the stock outback 205/70r15. And I can prove it lol. 98-03 forester and 96-99 outbacks use the same front strut so that makes that part a little simpler.

I dont have enough problematic old vehicles so...
So why is it that I find myself gravitated toward the project cars? I have the same damn problem. The only thing I've gotten that wasn't a project car in a long time was my legacy, and sure enough I found a way to make it so...

looking 2 buy a legacy under 3k.. i am a mechanic.. hows reliability?
86BRATMAN replied to Hakim Craddock's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXActually on the sohc ej25 they don't loose heat. One of my friends had an 02 impreza rs that he ran about 80k miles after they started leaking, as long as he kept the antifreeze topped off it never lost heat or had the tempurate guage go out of normal range.

86BRATMAN replied to TajMan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think he is reffering to the car around what he needs for the engine swap. Side bar... If you do go with a pison swap I'd be interested in the stock ones.

need opinions and options on engine swap to Legacy
That body style legacy, imho is the best looking legacy to date, if you've got a solid car to build from it would be worth it to me to do it. Not saying it won't be expensive or a headache with everything you have to change. But it would be dead rump roast sexy when its done. some thing like this would be the best way to go honestly... http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/subaru/front-clips/ej20-single-turbo-complete-front-clip-subaru-wrx-sti-98.html

86BRATMAN replied to Hakim Craddock's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis is true on the outback, but only for 96 in 5spd form. All the rest were the ej25. If you are not limited to a legacy platform, the ej22 came in the non RS impreza until 2001.
