  1. The tires are throwing your speed off too. With the tires you have on it, 25 is more like 32.
  2. I like it. We should be USMBASTHAT ultimate subaru message board and some toyotas here and there
  3. I may convert it. He gave me a white door for the passenger side. It's a power door. Jim and Miles did a great job on the swap. Everything fits like factory. And yes he is a subie nut. You can tell he really loves his subies. He takes good care of them. I did some work on it yesterday. I cleaned the wheels with NAPA aluminum wheel cleaner. They look awesome now. The pics are of two different wheels but the before pic was the best , and the after was one of the worst. I also did plugs and wires. It runs quite a bit smoother now.
  4. Thats why i just used mine. He said it was on e and i'd need to fill it before i left and then put back what i used and return it to him full. It would have been a tank and a half. I used $40 worth on my truck. I just figured his would be cheaper but he was giving me a hassle on the time line too. He does not even drive it but for some reason he needed it the day that i needed it. I think he didn't want me borrowing it and just would'nt come out and say it. Oh well.
  5. Yes, it was a fwd 5spd. Jim did awesome on the swap job. It also has the split rear seat but no power windows and locks.
  6. I am really happy with them. I think i made a good choice. I have gotten lucky with both sets of tires that i have bought this year. I got hankook rs2 245/40/17's for the wrx and i love them too. I'll try airing down a bit when i go wheeling. I ran them at 35psi which is the max on these. I was surprised it was so low. The BFG's were 50psi. I can't really get too hardcore with this rig anyway. It does pretty well but is mildly built, and lifted. Someday i want to do more to it and twin stick it but it's gonna take a lot of fab and time.
  7. Thanks for the comments guys. I have trouble on deciding on tires as well. I figured they would be a good road set of tires and i am looking at the tsl's for offroad of course. I just did not wnat to run tsl's on the street. I put way too many miles on this to burn up a set of nice MT's on pavement. Plus i am pretty sure the tsl's suck in the snow on the street and i drive this in the winter too. I am hoping with proper rotation and changing to an MT for offroad they should last a while.
  8. I got some new tires today. First road impressions were AWESOME. I had 215/75/15 BFG A/T's before. I went with the same size for the Toyo's. I have to admit they do not look as agressive as the BFG's. Once i rolled out of the lot i was totally sold. My vibration/shaking steering wheel at speed was completely gone. These are A LOT quieter on the road than the BFG's as well. The car also feels way smoother over bumps and a lot more stable in the corners. I really like these. So, they are great road tires but how well will they do offroad? I had to test em' a little. As far as i can tell they are better than the BFG's on dry offroad conditions. I climed hills i would have never been able to with the BFG's. The Toyo's just dug in where the BFG's would have just spun. In mud they seem about the same. It has been really dry here so not much mud to be had. After we get some rain i will test them again. As far as snow? Well i'll find out. The guy who recomended them has a 2wd full size pickup with the Toyo's and he said that they were great in the snow. Anyway i got 4 out the door for $350. They are 215/75/15. The price was a little salty but not bad considering the BFG's i was gonna put back would have been over $400 + mounting and tax. Just some info. OH YEAH!
  9. thanks for the comments! I am really addicted to driving it. cold ac and oil pressure gauge already installed. I take it the stock coolant temp gauge sucks? I like the 4 headlights too! My buddy with the red loyal pictured above wanted to trade me headlight assemblies.... I of course said no.
  10. Thanks to 86Subaru i am the pround owner of a new to me 88dl with 4wd d/r. YAY!!!! I love this little car! Yesterday i dollied it home the 1.5 hours and then put gas in it, checked the fluids, tires and such and then drove it 35 miles. It has some mangaeable rust on the body but none where it counts. He gave me enough parts to keep it going for a long time too. Thanks again Jim. I absolutly love it. 1 of the tow vehicle(it deserves it) it' a great old truck. 91 chevy, I got it 5 years ago for $2k :)with 87,000 miles, it now has 96,000. 4x4 and 3/4 ton. It sucks on the gas mph but when i have projects around the house or need a car towed it works flawlessly. I was gonna borrow a friends truck that gets waayyy better mpg but he wanted 2 tanks of gas :-\ for the favor. Plus my legacy and my buddies loyale.
  11. I use it in my ej22 and some lucas oil stabilizer at every change. The car was smoking some if it idled for a bit. That has stopped. Also mpg went up 2-3 and i have better smoother power. I was totally surprised. It makes for an expnsive oil change but for a motor with 180k it's worth it. It really runs awesome.
  12. My wife and roomate are jeepers, Buddies cherokee. Me and the wifey have had the jeep at "badlands" offraod park about 5 times. I can't seem to find pics right now. It is a stock wrangler with 31" yokohama at's. It does pretty well there. Only got it stuck a few times. It amazes me what a stock jeep can do..........
  13. Gotta love the ej22. It is a stout rump roast engine. I am assuming ej22 of cousre the ej25 probably would have been dead for sure.
  14. the 6 speed is pretty big. Not sure if it'll fit in the tunnel with out some "mods". There is some other stuff you'll need too, starter, driveshaft, maybe different or modified axels and or hubs from the sti. There's probably more.......... I am also assuming your 99 is a 5mt right now.......... Oh, also you'll have to get or make a center diff controller other wise you will be mostly/annoyingly rear biased.
  15. +1 for that. Also to hold the flywheel. I put a socket and a breaker bar on the crank bolt and turn/hold the opposite direction. IMO taking the trans out/back can be done with a lot less work and can be less invasive as far as wireing, vacum lines, and hoses in general.
  16. Sweet vid. That "pop" was that axel i assume? It sounded kinda cool!
  17. I saw crapheap and i just . YAY! You'll get there........ Even when they are not right they are still fun.
  18. I've heard of it. It's plus 12k and will hold like 600whp. YAY! Nice stocking stuffer for sure:lol:
  19. 90' legacy stock 2.2 NA. 98' OB struts, 2" Subframe lift, 89' D/R 5spd, 3.9 rear LSD. Running 215/75/15 BFG AT's It out wheeled a 93' Jeep Cherokee With a 4" lift and Super Swampers a couple weeks ago, and my BFG's are damn near bald.
  20. Welcome! I think you'll like it here. You'll be parkin that jeep.............
  21. You'd have to gather your own materials. Bolts, and lift block material. Honestly i am not sure anyone makes EJ series(IE: BC/BF/BJ/BD/BG/BK legacy's/outbacks) lifts anymore. AA might make you one though if you asked them. They do nice work from what i've seen. As far as doing the lift it would be the same amount of physical work. Also you would need a welder to lengthen your steering, or someone to make you a new universal joint for the steering. For lift block material you can use 2x4 steel with holes drilled. Mine is made from solid aluminum blocks. Also steel to drop your struts. Round tube with steel plates. You need to decide how much lift you want. If you go 2 - 3 inches with blocks. Your ok. IMO any more you would need to subframe the car which is of course a lot more work. 2 " blocks and OB struts make a nice lift on my car but you may want more. I am sure there is something i am forgetting...........
  22. custom made. The guy i bought it from did it. He said he a about 300 in it including bolts.
